“no nation has the right to simply grab land from another.”

"'No faith can be placed in the Anglo-American colonists because they are continually demonstrating that they absolutely refuse to be subordinate, unless they find it convenient to what they want anyway, all of which I believe will be very detrimental to us for them to be our neighbors if we do not in time, clip the wings of their audacity by stationing a strong detachment in each new settlement which will enforce the laws and jurisdiction of a Mexican magistrate which should be placed in each of them, since under their own colonists as judges, they do nothing more than practice their own laws which they have practiced since they were born, forgetting the ones they have sworn to obey, these being the laws of our Supreme Government.'"

On December 19, 1832, the Bexar Remonstrance was issued to the Mexican Congress. It legally proclaimed the grievances that the population of Texas had suffered under the centralist style Mexican government.[65] It addressed such issues as improper protection against Indian attacks and poor pay for militia, insufficient local and legislative representation, forbidding of immigration from the United States, lack of schools and funding for education, and various violations of the repudiated republican style Constitution of 1824.

Oh?

What about the U.S. government’s annexation of the northern half of Mexico or, to be more precise, the land grab that encompassed California, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Texas, and parts of Wyoming and Colorado?

What about the U.S. Annexation of Mexico - The Future of Freedom Foundation

US annexed Hawaii. Royal family of the time wasn't consulted, asked, or compensated. US just took it over. As a kind of half-assed belated apology they've granted the surviving royal family some degree of autonomy.

"By the time the United States got serious about looking beyond its own borders to conquer new lands, much of the world had already been claimed. Only a few distant territories in Africa and Asia and remote islands in the Pacific remained free from imperial grasp. Hawaii was one such plum. Led by a hereditary monarch, the inhabitants of the kingdom prevailed as an independent state. American expansionists looked with greed on the strategically located islands and waited patiently to plan their move."

Uh what about the US' annexation of the whole US from the native inhabitants?
Planning on turning the deed to your own property over to the Natives, gratis, as penance, anytime soon?

Don't own my apartment. If the Natives want it they can have it. Need an excuse to move anyway.

People with deeper roots feel differently.

But, to translate that into 'renter terms' - is it OK with you if the Natives take-back all the land-mass that presently comprises the US, and force you to relocate beyond their newly-reacquired domains?

If you're of European descent - back to Europe with you. Or Africa. Or Asia. Or whatever.

OK with you, if the land you dwell upon (rent) becomes unwelcoming, forcing you - and your family - and your friends - to leave this continent, as Penance for the Past?

I have no attachment to dirt. Dirt here's the same on the other side of the planet, and not being one of the American Exceptionalism types am happy anywhere.

Fine.

Then act upon your principles and convictions, lead by example, and leave the continent.

After all, it's the Logical and Right Thing To Do, under the circumstances, yes?

The Dirt here will never notice.

And you will have the immense satisfaction of having done the Right Thing, and being a Man of Principles.

You are rationalizing your continued presence here, and perpetuating an injustice by occupying land belonging to Native Americans. Lead by example.

I wonder what President Obama would respond if Russian President Putin were to say to him: “I’ll return Crimea to Ukraine if you’ll return California, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Texas to Mexico. Ahahaha That's funny.
