No military retiree COLA this year.

:( That's totally messed up, so this is the thanks we get for serving and protecting this country? Social Security, for Seniors and the Disabled, got shanked also, and they won't get another COLA increase, for 2 more years.

Being I get my Military retirement and Social Security, I get nothing more either way. My question is how can Obama predict this 2 years out?

Have Cost of Living increases always been calculated every other year or is this a new thing?

If i remember right they are based upon the third Quarter index of the previous year, So as of the third quarter of 09 there was zero inflation from the third quarter of 08, according to the government. I have no Idea how they are figuring that for 2010 already.

It's all part of that new math. Take money from anyone who you think doesn't need it.

How can I word this to fit in here......

Only welfare loving socialists would want a cost of living increase when there isn't inflation. I'm all for helping out my fellow man, and think soldiers need taken care of better. Just ask for more if you want it, I think you deserve it. That or make a case for inflation having occurred.
Haven't seen the recent inflation of the stock and commodities bubbles, have you? :eusa_whistle:

When people start eating, filling their gas tanks, or living in gold or pieces of paper, get back to me.

Yep. Did the same ones complaining about this complain when it was said that SS COLA would not happen either?
The folks who asked for the COLA increase for Social Security this year are using equally flawed logic. Tell them I said so.

I like how you buffoons think that there hasn't been a single increase in any prices on and goods or services in the entire country this past year. What you all FAIL to realize is that the cost increases in consumer necessities LIKE FOOD have been offset by decreases in prices in other sectors of the economy.

COLA stands for "cost of living adjustment", not "cost of a single good adjustment".

There will be NO military retiree COLA adjustment to our monthly checks ladies and gents....

Maybe next year....

Two years out? What are you babbling about? It's an annual adjustment.

They don't. They're calculated based on the previous year, and that's always been the case.

Do try to read more. When it was first announced in 09 that there would be no COLA increases for Military Retirees or for Social Security recipients, they also noted that there wouldn't be any for 2010 either. So they are predicting in 2009 that there would be no increase in Cost of Living in 2010. Now I want to borrow that crystal ball for a while.

I will agree going to a two year review period now is a MISTAKE. Public Relations nightmare to say the least.

I'll stand by my belief that there hasn't been a cost of living this last year.

In 2011 or whenever assuming there is inflation they better make up for any inflation in 2010 also and not go to a 1 year review only in years with inflation.

I got one. now what???

Your cost of living has gone up?

For the nation as a whole there is no Consumer Price Index increase for the last 19 months.
ftp://ftp.bls.gov/pub/special.requests/cpi/cpiai.txt
Current Consumer Price Index

Also looks like 2009 was a negative year for general inflation. Maybe -.04%
United States Inflation Rate
Current Inflation

I do recognize a hole in these statistics. Folks who are old enough to be retired probably spend a greater percentage of their income on medical care. (I know as I get older I am). Medical care costs must be going up because I know my insurance gets more expensive each year.

They were predicting that based off of inflationary expectations. If inflation is above expectations, there would be a cost of living increase.

right....but here's what you are missing polk...as usual....
When the value of our currency drops faster than prices go up you have a NEGATIVE impact on inflation since the cost of living is measured in CURRENT dollar values, not the previous years dollar value on the world currency market and there is NO adjustment for it's value on the world market.

I'm not missing anything. I agree that it's problematic that cost of living adjustments are based on price change in the previous year and not the current rate of price change, but that problem isn't specific to the Obama administration. That's always been the case and will likely always be the case.

Because CPI had increased in the previous year.

Didn't we have $4 gas that year?

Yes and that is the reason they are claiming that there was no increase in Cost of Living, because Gasoline dropped so much from it's high. My point is that Older people on fixed income don't drive near as much as they used to so the price of gas doesn't really affect them so much. It's the groceries and other things that have gone up that hurt more.
