how many yahoos were packing down on the ground that played cowboy---- not knowing where the bullets were coming from? they knew better than to even try because the good guys might think they were bad guys & blow them away.

I din't know. How many were there? I haven't seen a single one mentioned.
Also, the people who were armed would not be pointing their weapon unless they had a target. That probably didn't include pointing at other people in the crowd.

He Rigged cameras on the hallway. You would be shot through the door on approach.
In that particular situation perhaps. However, if you can physically see someone shooting at you, wouldn't you prefer to be armed?
That is EXACTLY what happened when the security guard went up to the door.
