The diciest part of Trump's promise is in his commitment to "every veteran." The VA gives priority to soldiers whose health problems stem directly from their military service, and it has a hierarchy of priority groups. At the very bottom of the list, there are no slots for financially well-off veterans with no service-related claim.

The way it should be, if not wounded during fighting or active duty in a wartime, get your own health insurance.
If you don't work for a company with shared ins, get on the ACA,

oh wait Trump scrapped that. Unless you got wounded in the line of duty, no free health care for you.

VA healthcare is one of the benefits for any person who signs their name on the dotted line and puts on a military uniform.

The vast majority of Americans support giving healthcare to all veterans regardless of when or where they served.

You are spitting in the wind if you think you can change that reality. ...

I thought you were for free HC for all. What's up?

...and I have a family member who just went on ACA, in Florida. Yet, you think Trump eliminated it.

There needs to be an alternative to the VA. Bureaucracy doesn’t work.

I may be mistaken but didn't Bill Clinton add a couple extra classes (7 and 8) to the VA back in the 90's to encompass all vets and the use of VA facilities? Then George Bush came a long and took away 8. The last class was for any vet regardless where, when and without a disability.

Veterans disagree with you, N C.

Veterans overwhelmingly prefer their healthcare from VA, along with private vendors when necessary.

"This bipartisan poll revealed veterans from every walk of life vastly prefer to get their care at VA hospitals as opposed to private, for-profit hospitals. Eight in 10 veterans believe their health care should be paid in full, not a voucher which may not cover all costs. They believe that being forced to shop for care on the open market—instead of being treated by VA doctors and nurses—means their health care will suffer, and they will end up footing the bill for claims that are denied or only partially paid. I don't know too many vets who would actually trust the V.A. medical system.

We all use regular medical insurance instead.

I first starting using the VA for my healthcare needs about 7 years ago.

Overall, I have found the medical staff and associated personal to be dedicated and competent at their job. ....

American Federation of Government Employees.......... What'd they do poll the 5 star VA Centers only?
Don't take that the wrong way, Just take what they report with a block of salt, they are self serving......... My care has been fairly good here in Albuquerque as it was when we lived in El Paso, TX but I would use non VA medical services if I could afford it and a lot of vets say the same thing. Not so much because the VA is bad but due to the wait periods primarily to see a specialist let alone get in for one's first visit. Granted it's not the VA's fault for the delays/wait times, there's a shortage of primary care providers nation wide and that's going to cause delays in being able to see a care giver.
Also the VA has improved quite a bit and would most likely improve much more if all presidents and all congresses stopped using it as a political football (hence responsible most of the problems the VA suffers from).

I have Medicare and Tri-Care and I utilize civilian doctors and hospitals for care and I don't pay a cent for the care or medicine. Last summer I had over $95 thousand hospital bill to include 5 weeks of rehab, no charge. I have 100% VA disability so I use VA doctors for diagnosis and have procedures done at civilian hospitals. VA isn't cost free for vets until they reach a certain disability rating. Starting at 0% disability, vets pay certain rates for care and medicine and the charges decrease as they are given higher disability percentage rating. Veterans deserve care for they have earned it and I would like to see it eventually become cost free.

It's single payer.

No I am all for people paying according to their income. Also I have no issue with someone disabled during active military duty, to get acute care, but after that its either disability like everyone gets if they are able to work pay a percentage of healthcare, and when a senior get Medicare.

Were you disabled in active duty??

You do not sound disabled from active duty, yet you get free healthcare. That is what expanded Medicaid, Medicare or the ACA was for. We can not give free healthcare to vets for their lifetime.

Why have you resorted to the VA healthcare? The people I know who went to the VA could not afford ins due to an pre existing condition, or had nothing to do with their active duty, but could not afford healthcare ins.

Thanks to the ACA pre existing conditions were covered, now with Trump care they probably won't be. Many people also had to go on disability to get health care coverage, since they could not afford health ins. due to hx of cancer, heart disease, or history of anything.
