If you currently have a New Mexico driver's license, after October 15th, you will no longer be able to use that as a valid government issued ID.

SANTA FE -- Governor Susana Martinez sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on the implementation of REAL ID Act.

All States face an October 15th deadline to communicate with the federal government about their intention to comply with the REAL ID Act. Currently, New Mexico's drivers license is not deemed to be a federally secure document under the REAL ID Act, given that New Mexico is one of only two states that issues drivers licenses to illegal immigrants.

In her letter, Governor Martinez asks for a description of the various ramifications that New Mexicans would face as a result of this non-compliance, including no longer being able to use a drivers license to board an airplane or enter federal buildings and national laboratories, which employ thousands of New Mexicans.

"Unfortunately, New Mexicos practice of giving drivers licenses to illegal immigrants not only poses a significant and well-documented public safety threat, it also undermines the validity and security of every New Mexico drivers license," said Governor Martinez. "It's deeply concerning that New Mexicans who work at our labs, get on an airplane, or need to show identification at any other federal facility will no longer be able to use their drivers license to do so. This is not just an inconvenience; it is an incredible burden on our citizens and our businesses, and on our ability to be competitive with our neighboring states."

NM Drivers Licenses Wont Be Considered Valid Federal ID After Deadline

This could also have serious ramifications for the election in New Mexico after this election, because currently you don't have to show a photo ID (even though the GOP is trying to convince people otherwise), but after that, they might.

Considering that photo ID laws allow you to use all sorts of things that don't meet Real ID requirements I am wondering why you think this will affect any election, especially one outside the state of New Mexico.

Well, the GOP in NM is running ads that say you can't vote without a valid government ID.

If NM driver's liscences aren't valid government ID's anymore, then who are the voters, only those with passports and military ID's?

No, I'm not high.

Doesn't change the fact that NM drivers ID's are no longer valid after Oct. 15th.

The Secretary of State's office in New Mexico says you do not need photo ID to vote, so the question once again is, are you high?

You're right, the Secretary of State DOES say that you don't need voter ID. However, there are GOP officials in NM that are carrying on with the lie anyway.

New Mexico GOP official confuses poll workers about voter ID laws

On Wednesday, ProgressNow New Mexico published a video obtained on September 26, which allegedly shows New Mexico Republican official Pat Morlen instructing poll challengers to ask for photo ID at polls. ProgressNow New Mexico writes, “The training was replete with misinformation about ID requirements, the use of provisional ballots, assistance for Spanish-speaking citizens, change of address requirements, and the rights of the disabled at the polls.”

According to the New Mexico Secretary of State, the official who implements voter regulations and oversees elections, only a verbal ID (name, birthday and address) can be requested:

You do not have to present a photo ID. Only if you are registering for the first time in New Mexico, and you submit the registration form by mail, then you must submit with the form a copy of (1) a current and valid photo identification; or (2) a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, student identification card or other government document, including identification issued by an Indian nation, tribe or pueblo that shows your name and current address. If you do not submit one of these forms of identification with your mailed-in, first time registration, then you would be required to present one of the forms of identification when voting in person or absentee.

Morlen is also heard to say that voters on purge lists would have to vote provisional instead of with a regular ballot. Provisional ballots are used to record a vote when there are questions about a voter’s eligibility. Morlen also states that those who have changed addresses within a voting district would have to vote provisional as well, contrary to law.

Both the remocrats and depublicans have been pushing this bullshit for decades now.

Your side is just as much to blame.

OK, you are not high, now. The problem is this doesn't back up your earlier post that Republicans are running ads saying you can't vote without an ID.

With a key provision of the federal Real ID Act set to kick in on Jan. 15, Gov. Susana Martinez claims there will be no way to differentiate between state IDs issued to residents who furnish federally-required documentation and those issued to illegal immigrants based on less stringent requirements.

And it required too much intelligence to think of printing "U.S. Citizen" on the licenses of those who furnished proof of US citizenship?

And Democrats wonder why people say they're dumb.

In 2003, then-Gov. Bill Richardson, pushed through the law approving the issuance of driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants in an attempt to decrease the number of uninsured drivers in the state. After nearly 10 years, there is little evidence the measure achieved the goal, say critics.

While New Mexican officials staunchly defend the validity and reliability of the documents used to obtain the card, Martinez said it opens a door for the possibility of fraud. An estimated 49,000 undocumented immigrants live in New Mexico, and since the law went into effect, some 80,000 licenses have been issued to foreign nationals, many of whom are not from the state.

In June, 30 people were indicted in an alleged illegal driver's license ring where illegal immigrants from South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee came to New Mexico to get driver's licenses using fraudulent utility bills.

Way to go, morons. Totally fuck your law abiding citizens over, do nothing to prevent the problem you intended to solve, and help criminals commit even MORE crimes.

:clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2:

Democrats would fuck up an anvil.
