I hope you mean in the US. I remember years ago someone answering why women soccer players get paid less. At that time the previous women's cup had grossed 78 million worldwide, the men's something in the range of 4 billion.

The women's world cup is going on, this inspires women, thus Nike is taking advantage of that. Also, the Women's team gets less for winning the whole thing than the men do for just making the World Cup. The men's team would get paid more than 10 times as much as the women's team if they both made it to the finals. This is a point of contention, and it should be.
