Night time in Rural America

Truth or Consequences, New Mexico

Anyone here know how it got its name? (Beside me)

LOL! no idea

There was a radio show called Art Linkletter's Truth or Consequences. He had something to do with the town and they changed their name to honor him.

It was originally called Geronimo Springs and then just The Springs after the Elephant Butte Dam was built on the Rio Grande.

T or C was originally named Hot Springs because of all the mineral hot springs in the area. They changed the name to "Truth or Consequences", because in March 1950, Ralph Edwards, the host of the radio show Truth or Consequences, said that he would air the program on its 10th anniversary from the first town in the U.S. that renamed itself after the show. Hot Springs changed their name and won the honor. The name change was official March 31, 1950 and Edwards broadcast the show from there the following evening, April 1st.
