NFL....modern day slavery?

So why should the owners get to keep a disproportionate amount of NFL money?

The owners make millions a year from the sweat of the players, without actually having to perform any function that puts them at risk, what do they have to complain about? They locked the players out because they want more money, why do they deserve more money?

What the hell is going on when Americans think there is some sort of "proportionate" salary that company owners owe their employees? Joe Stalin or Chairman Mao? CEO's create the business and run it and pay the salaries of thousands of employees. If a player wants to make 25 Million instead of only 5 Million per year let him invest in a team. You ignorant lefties are begining to scare me.

Athletes negotiate their salaries with the team. The team typically pays them according to the market. You ignorant, market hating lefties in denial are beginning to scare me.

Players can also opt for a lawyer and a free agent status but most of the time they don't have the balls (pun intended). They depend on pop-culture fools who can't even make a car payment to kiss their rings and sympathize about the injustice of having only one Rolls Royce.

If getting paid big bucks for doing something you'd probably do for free is slavery, then sign me up.

Yeah, who wouldn't want to embark on a career that lowers your life expectency by more than 20 years, and do it for free. :cuckoo:
Ummm...you do know the NFL draft is not like the military draft, don't you? The players don't have to play. It's totally voluntary. They won't go to jail if they don't accept a team's offer.

Oh, and did I mention that playing in the NFL is totally voluntary? True story.

So why do you think the owners deserve more of the profits than the provious CBA?

Where does the word "deserve" enter into it? The CEO's run the company. Would you rather have the government run it? They can't even run a post office without stealing stamps. The point is that the fans want to see professional football next year and lowest paid player is guaranteed to make a lot more than a typical fan just by warming the bench with their ass. It doesn't matter what CEO's make, the players are on strike and evidence indicates that they make an incredible salary already. When Americans start making up quasi-socialist slogans like "disproportionate salaries" and "division of profits" it's time to reorganize the education system.

So you can't come up with a single reason other than your capitalist rant?

Well, there you go…that was easy.

the whole thing is ridiculous, they can take their degree ( or not if they didn't get one) and forgo the draft or phone calls form teams and make a living some other way...slaves, what a riot..

As far as revenue sharing I never thought that was a good idea, at all. The players get approx. 2/3’s of the TV deal money (which equals the salary cap btw).

This leaves the owners with a third and they must if they want to add to that, become a marketing guru, as that money is not shared.

If an owner/team hits a rough patch, the TV money will always pay the players but his end drops, yet he is responsible for the team, the stadium and its debts, and any collapse or legalities attending that. The payers get drafted by someone else, their financial exposure is zero.

I just don’t see how that is fair.

( and yes I know the TV money keeps parity supposedly, as it is shared among the teams, so the teams like NY etc. in huge markets cannot just buy the best talent by why they connected it with pay is beyond me)

I don't recognize him. Is it Nicoli Lennin or John Lennin. Maybe Karl Marx or Groucho Marx.

67% of NFL players are Black. That's fine with me but do the millionares have the (foot)balls to play the race card by calling themselves slaves? Will the lavish lifestyles of the rich and famous football stars resonate with the public? Could they promote white man's guilt and portray a million dollar per year increase in salary as payback for racism? Stranger things have happened.

All players have lawyers and many do opt for free agency.

Do you make it a habit to talk out of your ass about subjects for which you clearly know jack shit?

Next time you want to butt fuck the shit out of a poorly constructed strawman, could you leave me out of it?

Thanks.

Hmm you sure have a thing with butt fucking. :eusa_eh:

I have to side with the players. Sure, it seems like they make a lot, but what they are doing is risking their lives so team owners get rich.

It's not like getting paralyzed or concussed into insanity isn't a huge risk. They deserve to be compensated accordingly.

67% of NFL players are black and one, Adrian Peterson, made the slavery statement. So what do the other 66.9999999999% have to do with his statement? Oh, they are black so they must feel the same as Peterson.

It ain't me screeching about slavery, Skippy.

Maybe we will get lucky and pro football will end?

As a spectator sport college football is ten times better than the NFL lumbering has-beens who try to get down the field without spraining something. The problem for pro sports during a downturn in the economy is that people ain't likely to spring for a ticket unless they are radical fans. Taking a kid to a baseball game will set you back $100 these days. Why can't the "superstars" understand that concept? Maybe they do and the lockout is a game of chicken.

First it was "disproportionate salaries" and now it's what? "Division of profits"? Unless Chairman Mao's revolution succeeded in this Country while I wasn't looking there is no such thing as "division of profits" unless the employee owns stock in the company. Are football players resopnsible for the condition of the stadium or are they concerned with hot dog sales or scouting results? Not unless they have a substantial investment in the company

I don't think you understand what's going on.

It's not "socialism" - it's capitalism at it's finest. The owners don't make any money without the players - and the players don't make any money without the owners. There's got to be give and take - if they can't agree, they all lose money.

What's "socialist" about that?

You've now mentioned it at least one more time than I have.

Better luck with your next strawman.
