This is the wrong time to introduce a comprehensive immigration reform bill. I don’t think it has any chance of passing before the midterm elections. There is real division in both parties over immigration issues. Republicans as well as many democrats will vigorously oppose this bill. The Democrats pulled the Energy Bill, which was ready to go in favor of the immigration bill, which is still being written. We needed that Energy bill to compete with the Chinese in the emerging multi-trillion dollar green technology market and to lessen our dependence on foreign oil.

So why did the Democrats decide now is the time to tackle immigration? The passing of the Arizona law is just an excuse. Democrats are concerned about the midterm elections and not being able to turn out the Latino vote. This is all pure politics.

What do you think?
