The old isolationist Conservative is exinct, sadly. The GOP is now fully Neoliberal. This means they support policies that level the globe into a unified network of cheap labor and cheap resources. [Next time you are in the shopping mall, read the labels on the products. Take note of where those cheap toasters and sneakers were made. They were made in the 3rd world using ULTRA cheap labor and ULTRA cheap resources]

How do you create the political conditions of GLOBAL cheap labor? See Ronald Reagan, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. First you find a corruptible dictator or rebel faction (Contras, Pinochet, Hussein, etc). Then you get them to take massive structural adjustment loans on behalf of the country. The loans translate into no contract bids for the interests which own the Republican Party - the contracts are for physical improvements, generally infrastructure of the sort Halliburton does. Predictably the country defaults on the loan. This allows the USA to take control of the country's assets and political direction. This in turn gives them the leverage to keep labor cheap and environmental regulations down. It allows them to prevent the nationalization of resources so that all the country's wealth-creating-assets are left open to foreign investment capital. This allows Nike and Jordache to come in a get materials and labor for pennies - as rivers are polluted and workers live in hovels.

On the upside, super cheap consumer goods are shipped back to American shopping malls, which malls are filled with jobless Americans waiving credit cards - levitating on debt until the credit system dies (which it did).

The old time Conservatives WOULD NEVER support neoliberalism.

The old party took a wrong turn at Reagan, and the nation has paid dearly. DO YOU PEOPLE KNOW HOW MUCH REAGAN INCREASED THE PENTAGON BUDGET. HE DID THIS AT A TIME WHEN THE CURTAIN WAS CRUMBLING AND GORBY WAS UNWINDING THE SOVIET UNION. Reagan used the Soviet Threat to base the globe, so he could expand and protect the new global market system. Of course, you can't tell a Republican this. They have been taught to love Reagan. They know nothing about his record, nor his defense spending, nor his reasons for growing the American military more than any single president in history. Republican voters - at least the ones lacking a solid university degree - get 100% of their information from the Party apparatus, which feeds talking points to talk radio and FOX News.
