Newt hits Romney hard on Bain Capital

Get your facts strait. First, Bain Capital has saved hundreds of thousands of jobs. How many companies like AMC Entertainment, Benntag, Burlington Coat, Toys R Us, Dunkin Brand, HD supply and Outback would have survived without the money Bain invested into those companies. They did not break up those companies, they changed leadership in those companies and bring them back to life. No other candidate in the history of presidential politics has created more jobs.
Link, newby?

Except of course that Bain Capital is a private investment firm that invests in businesses and creates jobs. They are clearly bad guys.

Can you imagine. A PRIVATE firm being able to invest or not invest. Capitalism? What is this world coming to?
Sure they can. But the American people do not like every type of capitalism. Buying distressed companies, firing all the American workers, and sending those jobs to China while collecting big bonuses for doing so is not the capitalism that Americans support.

Perry weighed in on this too and I think it's a mistake for these guys to take this approach. They are supposed to be supporting the free market and they are attacking it at the same time. They are swinging to the left with this argument and it is going to come back and haunt them if they ever want to get back into office after this race.

When I heard his and Newt's comments, I thought I was in the Twilight Zone. I couldn't imagine them positioning themselves to the left of Mitt! It was like they were making Obama campaign spots!!!
You betcha!

That's a small part of the story and it is being made into the entire story. Every business that Bain wound down was dead man walking. Those employees were gone and likely received a far better package under Bain's takeover than would have happened eventually. The proceeds from saving what little could be save then went into creating successful companies with more jobs being created. A story that takes more than a soundbite and a bit more comprehension. The true facts of the matter usually do.

Bain sent them to China and the patient recovered. Meanwhile, Americans were left without jobs.

And if Bain never intervened the company was dead and the Americans left without a job. I guess you are happy as long as no assets are preserved. Assets which allowed Bain to reinvest in new enterprises which created new jobs. Economies aren't static.

Do you still complain that the cotton gin operator was let go?

Fuck, so many so clueless so uneducated. No wonder America is in decline.

This attack, like every other attack against Romney, will fall flat. Voters want someone that can beat Obama. Newt is not that guy. He'd make a good cabinet member, or even VEEP....

About HALF the voters want someone who can beat Obama.

That doesn't necessarily mean they want to choose Mitt "I like to be able to fire people" Romney.

If the Republicans don't broach this issue now, Obama will in the fall.

I said back in 2008, you don't win over an electorate afraid of losing their jobs with a guy who made his money by firing people from their jobs. This, along with his crazy religion, makes Romney unelectable, but you clowns keep insisting on nominating him anyway.

I'm curious, Joe. Why would you do the Progressives work by attributing a remark to Romney that was taken TOTALLY out of context? Romney wasn't talking about liking to fire people from their jobs when he made the comment that he like to be able to fire people...he was talking about liking to be able to fire any insurance company that wasn't providing good service. If you don't like Romney...and it's quite obvious that you don't...then rip the man for what he HAS done or said...not some bullshit quote taken out of context to give it a different meaning. That's the kind of silly crap that has made MSNBC a laughingstock. Why would you want to emulate what they do?

Yeah oldstyle I agree. If you are a repub and you don't like what a rePub does either Stfu. Disagreement will not be tolerated. Are you pro-repub or pro-socialism?

It has nothing to do with "disagreement". It's about fairness. Taking something out of context to make it appear damning is sleazy behavior no matter who does it.

I have no problem with Republicans criticising other Republicans. I want someone nominated that can stand up to the heat that Obama, the Progressives and the Main Stream Media are going to come at them with. It's going to be a nasty campaign because this Administration wants nothing to do with running on it's record. The only alternative is to attack the opposition.

As for what "I" am? I'm a fiscal conservative who's pro-choice, has no problem with same sex marriage and is an agnostic. I know that many of the hardcore progressives here fervently believe alll Republicans are religious nut cases who are pro life and hate gays but they are as mistaken about that as they are about progressive policies being the "answer" to our problems.

The biggest problem Romney has in trying to defend against this is that if he tries to argue that during is time at Bain Capital he saved jobs, he opens up the door for Obama to talk about the jobs he's saved. The issue is that Republicans have repeatedly scoffed at jobs saved statistics as part of the attack strategy on Obama's record. Defending against Bain Capital means tossing that attack strategy out.

For Romney, it's better to have this issue come out now where he can handle it in the context of the GOP primary process and then argue it's a "tired attack" or "old news" in the general election. But again, he needs to be careful on how he comes back against it. Saying Bain Capital "saved jobs" means that Obama can start trotting out his "saved jobs" statistics with impunity.

Please with the "out of context" bullshit. The context is that he said he liked firing people who dont provide a service to him. He still said "I like Firing people"

There is no context that makes "I like firing people" any different unless the context was that he ended it with "out of cannons at the circus" Stop it already.
You want compliance, lock step and anyone that doesnt is working with the "enemy"

One more time, guy, Romney made his fortune firing people, the world is littered with the bodies. So him saying "I like to be able to fire people" is kind of like Michael Jackson saying "I like playing with children". No matter what the context, that's still pretty effed up.

This was his Macaca Moment.

No he didn't, it's simply a lie. A small fraction of their business was in liquidating companies that were failing, a very small part. Something we actually need to take place in the Federal government btw. Most of their business was investing in start ups.
Sports authority
Steel Dynamics

The list goes on and on. Just because you don't have a clue about PE and VC companies doesn't give you the right to smear the good work, the necessary and valuable work that Bain capital and the other 2300 PE/VC firms provide to our economic system. You simply don't have a clue. Just attack him for being a Mormon and leave it at that.

Oh, please.

Actually, there was an article today where the Venture Capitalists are crapping themselves because they don't like the scrutiny Romney is bringing down on them.

As far as the 'success' stories. Staples didn't have it's real success until it got Bain out of their lives and developed the "Easy Button" campaign.

Venture Capitalists are parasites that have mistaken themselves for vital organs.

Newt is a piece of shit. He lived off lobbyist money for decades and now has the ego to attack a Republican banker for growing and sometimes downsizing inefficient companies for long term growth.

Newt is nothing but a Govt leach whining that everyone isn't buying his bullshit. Sure he did some good things in the 90s, but then went off the reservation.

He could've been picked for a Cabinet job under Romney, but now he'll just be picking his ass in Jawja the rest of his life.

Since Romney won't win, it's kind of academic.

Romney is pretty much the best villian since Mr. Potter in "It's a Wonderful Life".

Hollywood couldn't have cast it better.
