Newt Gingrich 2012 Campaign Quote Thread

Posted elsewhere, but hilarious nonetheless

Newt Gingrich said:
Really poor children, in really poor neighborhoods have no habits of working and have nobody around them who works so they have no habit of showing up on Monday ...

They have no habit of staying all day, they have no habit of I do this and you give me cash unless it is illegal.

From the liberal Fox News

Outstanding!

Well, I can see how a nanny state liberal like yourself would be upset by that...

because it's kind of true.

When I was in the National Guard, I was in a unit that was mostly, let's say, "Inner City" As in National Guard was another welfare check, they just expected to show up and get it.

"What, you mean you want me to get a haircut and actually shine my boots?"

A lot of them didn't even last a year.

Personally, I think he could have phrased that a little better. But there's truth to it. The welfare state has developed a mentality of "the world owes me".

joe, the one who seems panicky to me, is you.

in your objective to avoid romney, you ran out of choices pretty fast.

now it seems your last donut standing between kerry, err, romney, and the nomination is newt. and you are gobbling it down, regardless of filling.

bon appetit.

3. “The idea that a congressman would be tainted by accepting money from private industry or private sources is essentially a socialist argument.”
~Newt Gingrich, arguing that it’s okay for politicians to be bought and paid for.

5. “The problem isn’t too little money in political campaigns, but not enough.”
~Newt Gingrich on campaign finance reform.

Well, not really.

I said from the beginning that Romney was unacceptable to large swaths of the GOP, and when the Not-Romney's got down to one choice, he'd be toast.

Romney has never gotten above the 20-25% he's had all along. And I don't think he ever will.

It's not like we don't know who Newt is. I think he's done much to redeem himself since I thought he was finished back in May.

I honestly wish Perry had done better, but his lack of preparedness doomed him. new rule, if you are going to do this, you'd better be planning for a long time.

I do blame the establishment for trying to grease the skids for Romney, and getting people like Daniels, Christie, Barbour, et al to bow out. Any of them would have been vastly better.

I think the thing is, we down here in the rank and file are tired of the establishment imposing these RINOs and phonies on us. Bush-41, Dole, Bush-43, McCain. Enough is enough.

with all your eloquence, you practically just confirmed what i said.

btw, the people who are serious, are sitting this one out.

or did you see hillary go for the nomination in 2004?

it is hard to unseat an incumbent,

and they know it.

the bullshit blogosphere, message board narrative, that a ham sandwich could win against obama, is, well, bullshit.

if the economy is not totally in the tank in october 2012, obama will win easily.

Well, I know you guys like to tell yourselves that, but the fact is no incumbant has won with numbers this bad and a few got defeated with numbers that were better.

You see, here's the thing. If it comes down to Obama and Romney, I'll vote for Obama. I see no political difference between them and Romney belongs to a religion I hate with every fiber of my being.

I think the economy will be so bad that anyone the GOP puts up will win, unless conservatives split off into a third party. I'm sorry, I'm out here in the real manufacturing economy, and I see things getting worse, not better.

i am sorry for your loss.

"manufacturing" in the US.

didn't you outsource all that decades ago?

i find your posts to be very entertaining, but face it.

you are using the religious test, which is, as i am informed, unconstitutional.

it is also plain bigotry.

Fact is, we are still the biggest manufacturing producer in the world. The chinese haven't passed us up, yet.

But the fact Obama hasn't helped the situation is MORE than a good enough reason to vote him out.

I'm sorry, point out in the constitution where I PERSONALLY can't practice a religious test.

To me, it's pure pragmatism.

Religion isn't like race. REligion is a choice. At some point, as an adult, you have to determine if the shit they tell you in church makes sense. I did this in 1983, concluded it didn't.

If Romney really thinks he's wearing magic underwear, that he's going to be a God on a spirit world in the afterlife, that black people are cursed by God with dark skin, then those are VALID things we need to use to evaluate whether he's worthy of the presidency.

I say... no.

it is not unconstitutional to not vote for a candidate because of his religion.

but it is a clear sign that something is fishy if in the constitution it is said that a person can not be disqualified for holding an office because of his religion. Art. 6 III

you personally can cast your vote any way you want. and then in your case you are a bigot.

No,I think that was just a sign that the founders realized that the religious conflicts that caused most of their grandparents to come here should be kept at a safe distance from the government.

I don't think they ever anticipated that we Americans would develop so many crazy religions based left our own devices.

I don't think it's bigotry to judge someone on their crazy beliefs because they call those beliefs a "religion".

Believing your underwear will protect you from harm is crazy.

Believing you are going to be a spirit God on your own world in the next life is crazy.

Beleiving that Dark Skin is a curse from God is crazy - and racist.

Believing Hebrews lived in ancient America when archeological evidence has debunked that theory is crazy.

the craziness is not diminished because you've given it vestments and a nicely bound book.

Newt said that he would defy Supreme Court rulings.

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich came out swinging Saturday against the nation's legal system, pledging if elected to defy Supreme Court rulings with which he disagrees and declaring that a 200-year-old principle of American government, judicial review to ensure that the political branches obey the Constitution, had been "grossly overstated."

Courts "are forcing us into a constitutional crisis because of their arrogant overreach," Mr. Gingrich told reporters in a Saturday conference call. He repeatedly blasted federal judges for imposing "elitist opinion" on the rest of the country.

Politicians often attack the judiciary for decisions they perceive as unpopular, a relatively painless tactic because judges, unlike electoral opponents, don't fight back. But Mr. Gingrich, a former House speaker, has gone further than any major candidate in recent memory, with scalding rhetoric rarely seen since the 1950s and '60s, when Southern politicians excoriated the Supreme Court for ordering the end to racial segregation, something many then argued exceeded the judiciary's constitutional power.

Mr. Gingrich referred to that era in campaign literature declaring that the Supreme Court's rationale for ordering states to obey its Brown v. Board of Education ruling to desegregate public schools was "factually and historically false."

"The courts have become grotesquely dictatorial," Mr. Gingrich said at a candidates' debate Thursday, something he would correct by calling judges before congressional inquiries, abolishing or defunding courts whose constitutional interpretations differ from his and impeaching judges not solely for criminal or ethical misconduct, as has been the practice, but also for their rulings.

Mr. Gingrich cited a handful of court decisions with which he disagrees, including some that have been reversed on appeal, to justify his plans. He also complained that many cases closely divide the Supreme Court, leaving a single vote—often that of Justice Anthony Kennedy, who he singled out for criticism—to resolve the dispute

"Do we really believe that all the intricate systems that we have created should come down to one lawyer?" he said. "The courts are too aggressive, and the courts have been trying to impose an elitist value system on a country that's inherently not elitist."

He pointed to a position paper on his campaign website, which states that "should the Supreme Court issue decisions during a Gingrich administration that unconstitutionally empower federal judges with certain national security responsibilities, such decisions will be ignored." ...

Mr. Gingrich said Saturday he proposes "a floating, three-way constitutional system" in which any two of the three branches of federal power—the executive, legislative and judicial—could effectively overrule the other.

So what have we got so far?

- Giant mirrors in space so its easier to drive at night.
- Firing janitors and replacing them with 9 year-olds.
- Ignoring court rulings he doesn't like.
- The CBO is a "reactionary socialist institution" which I assume he will shut down.
- Paul Ryan's budget is "right-wing social engineering."
- You can go to Hawaii on food stamps.
- Palestinians are an invented people.
- Poor kids don't work unless it is illegal.

What are we missing?

Remember, this thread is for what Newt has said in this campaign.
