New York is waking up !!!

Walmart is just the Flavor of the Week faux Socialist/Progressive outrage. Their BOOOOOOOOOSH!!!! and PALIN!! rants have become pretty stale at this point. So now it's back to "EVIL WALMART!!!" That one's pretty stale too though. People just laugh at these Socialist/Progressive nutters now. They're just too crazed & ignorant to notice all the people laughing at them. Walmart destroying New York? Now that's just some funny chit. :)

Yes Walmart is going to destroy New York. Huh Whaaa?? Seriously people, lay off the Socialist Wingnut propaganda. That bad ole Walmart isn't going to destroy New York. I promise.

New Yorkers are doing an excellent jpb of destroying themselves, WalMart ain't gonna mean much... They're gonna need a Walmart as the folks with money are fleeing in droves.

I'm sure old Maddcow over on MSLSD will be beating this one to death tonight on her show. Then it will be back to "BOOOOOOOOOOSH!!!" & "PALIN!!!!!" Soo predictable & lame.

Yea we sure will miss all those tacky Pakistani,Indian,Iranian shop owners ripping us off with their stolen knock-off goods. Oh my,how could this happen? All is now lost! Seriously though,Walmart will be a huge step up for New Yorkers. This "War" is being waged by partisan political hacks. It has nothing to do with reality. Get a life kooks. SHEESH!
I am more and more convinced that you are the intellectual equivalent of a turnip with every post you make. Do you live here? I'll bet you don't. Those "brown people-owned" stores are small businesses. Those people live, work and spend money here in the city. When you buy from a small business in your community, that money stays in your community instead of being funnelled straight to China after being filtered through the headquarters of one of the very worst corporations this country has ever spawned.. just behind McDonalds, maybe. Wal Mart's corporate policy is the epitome of everything wrong with this country. NYC neither needs nor WANTS one of those horrific big box job killers.

Maybe this does not apply to you but once those free hand outs stop coming, they will flee for greener meadows, and it's coming in the next few years.

War on WalMart?

Fucking priceless. It just never ends with you guys...

Well Walmart is the conservative paradise. According to the that report it generates like 400 billion dollars in income, yearly, and the average salary of it's workers are around 14K. That makes many of them qualify for welfare..or some other type of public assistance. Walmart use to give their employees information of how to apply for government healthcare. So sure..seems like a good deal. Plant a Walmart in a Manhattan neighborhood. Kill several thousands jobs. Generate several hundred jobs with no benefits. Gum up our generous social programs. All to make the Waltons the some of the richest people on earth.

Yeppers.

Then Conservatives can yammer on about all the lazy people getting "Gubmint cheese". It's a win-win.

Why do you hate success?

You probably shouldn't speak of things which you know nothing about. NYC is doing just fine, thanks.

I hope so, these wealthy people have the NYC rents at ridiculously high prices, cant wait to see them go. Like a great man once said," The rent is too damn high!!!"

Why do you hate success?

I don't consider Wal Mart to be a success, but an embarrassing parasite in our society. All that money they take in peddling cheap (probably toxic) crap made by impoverished near-slave labor does not stay here in the US, does it? Paying people 14K/year doesn't do much for our economy, does it? I wonder how many billions in profits they rake in each year instead of paying a living wage and actually giving back to their community instead of turning it into a small business ghost town and driving down all wages in the area...

i'm curious, where was the outrage when the new york times used eminent domain to drive out families and generational businesses for their manhattan corporate office.
they really do merchant in mass destruction, and of course they are biased.

eminent domain is a government term and not for private entities.

what are you talking about?

So compete against them, if it suits you, don't shop in their stores. Their Success sort of contradicts your accusations. Why is that???

You shop in Bodega's everyday, Douger, yeah right.

I do. That's where I get my coffee and yogurt every morning. And I go to the one by my apartment almost daily. And yes, most New Yorkers cherish non-chain stores... the tourists love them but no one I know can stand to go in them... they are mad houses. The Old Navy on 34th gives me hives - I will never go in there again.

Compete against them? When they move into a small town and destroy all the mom and pop stores - stores that generally pay better wages, mind you - how can you compete against them? Have you ever really paid attention to what those big box stores do to a community when they move in? It's chilling to see.

And I do not & will not step foot in a Wal Mart.

But how can they put anyone out of business if no one shops there?

Or are the mom and pop stores forced to "look like heros" to people like you when, in fact, the mom and pop stores are not paying the higher salaries...THE CONSUMERS ARE with the higher prices they are forced to charge to cover the higher salaries people like you THANK them for paying.

You truly dont get it...do you.

So Wal Mart gives away a pittance in their billions and billions of profits to charity... big whoop. Are these local charities? No, they aren't. I am referrring to the community in which each store resides. Wal Mart is extremely detrimental to any community it moves into.

The published study ultimately found that Wal-Mart actually reduced the take-home pay of retail workers by $4.7 BILLION dollars annually. Unfortunately for the retail workers this statistic concerns, Wal-Mart's effect on retail wages turns out to be worse than we had anticipated.
