New pay-per-mile scheme would boost taxes 250 percent

So that explains this. Let's see, if we need to raise the Highway Trust Fund $44 billion, and if the US profits more than the oil companies, then all we have to do is sit back and do nothing. The US government will get that much alone from Exxon by the end of this year.

Yup...if it is true that the government makes more than the oil companies and Exxon Mobile profits are in the 40 billion dollar range, that's right! Cool.

Oil companies do not make 18.4 cents profit per gallon of gasoline.
The government does.

And Exxon made $40 billion in profit. If Uncle Sam gets more than them, the Highway Trust Fund should be in the black, right?

The Taxpayers should charge Obama a pay per mile everytime his ass takes off for another vacation. $39ec2db4587101a8895538bdbf4047bc.jpg

Oregon, for instance, is among several states that are taking a hard look at the idea, reports Paul Eisenstein of the Detroit Bureau. As proposed in the Oregon legislature, drivers could be charged 0.85 cents per mile through 2015, with the figure jumping to 1.85 cents per mile by 2018. The bill, for the moment, appears stalled. Texas and Minnesota are reportedly also taking a look.

Mileage fees would take the place of gasoline taxes, which will decrease as more fuel-efficient and electric cars are introduced. The Detroit Bureau says the typical American motorist getting a combined 25 mpg today pays just under 2 cents a mile in gas taxes.

Still, the Big Brother aspects of taxing by the mile are sure to make any such plan an uphill battle.

A per mile tax is very conservative and libertarian. If you use it you pay for what you use.
there is no free lunch.

I think this administration is trying to get the taxes up to the level of those other socialist leaning top tier nations. We can't be an exceptional nation any longer, we just need to get in line with the rest of the world.

It has been a while since you have been truly exceptional anyway.

What are the top tax rates of these so-called 'socialist' countries?

They have to be over 100%!

What's the price for a litre in your country? Is it more than the 18.4% that we pay?
I bet it's a lot higher than what we pay.

The further left we go the less exceptional we are becoming....so yes, one of your rare moments of clarity.

Aren't we talking about fuel tax?????

Anyone who paid a premium for a hybrid thinking they would save $$$ on taxes is a chump. The tax per mile thing was something anyone could see coming. And it's a double for the government. Not only do they collect more money, they have an excuse to track drivers' movements. It's a totalitarian wet dream: Total Surveillance Society.

We pay a flat per gal tax of about .18 per gallon on fuel in the USA.
And there is typically .10-.20 per gal local and state added onto that.

Just drop the per gallon tax and charge the state sales tax on it.

It varies between about $1.34 and $1.70. But some of that cost is due to transport...

I don't think that Obama or the left have anything to do with your country becoming less exceptional. I actually don't think you were any more exceptional than any other western country in the first place. Maybe militarily....

I wonder if they have read the Constitution lately, a mileage tax would be an unconstitutional direct tax and I doubt they would be able to get an amendment to get it passed. The one fact that seems to be forgotten is smaller, more fuel efficient, cars do less damage to the roads, so the funds required for maintenance should be lower also.

Yes vehicle weight should be figured in.
The big diesel duallies damage the road far more than a yugo.

Again a paygo system. NO go no pay.
