New Orleans Mayor Claims Katrina Was A Man-made Disaster

The new mayor of New Orleans claimed this morning that Katrina was a man-made disaster on Meet The Depressed.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu, brother to US Sen. Mary Landrieu shamelessly claimed this morning that Katrina was a man-made disaster. I know this is quite a stretch but he honestly believes this. He repeated it several times because he claims that the US government built the levees that broke and so they're responsible.

The force of the storm nearly obliterated the Chandeleur Islands.....how the hell does he expect man-made levees to stand up to such a storm?

Anyone who lives in the state realizes that the Landrieu family owns the state and I see this as their opportunity to sit in front of the cameras on national television and beg for more cash.

Sen. Mary Landrieu is adept at finagling cash out of the federal government for her vote. It cost taxpayers millions to get it last year in a brilliant maneuver known as the Louisiana Purchase.

Like Ravi stated, had they not messed with "Mother Nature" then chances are descent that this could have been avoided and don't build down in a bowl, that area that was flooded needs to be bought and turned into wetlands,imo.

I remember the reports afterward that stated there is no way they could build a levee that could withstand a cat 4 or above. Maybe a cat 3....but that's it.

Most people moved away because they don't want to risk it happening again.

One of the homes in my neighborhood was flooded out this spring and those folks aren't moving back.

So I see this as just a bunch of officials trying to beg for money. If they put enough pressure on Obama maybe they'll get him to pour more cash down that Rat-hole.

Yes, the flood was a man assisted disaster. And it will happen again and again and again! No matter high they build the dikes the land there is sinking and the sea levels are rising. Hurricanes will always be present and the likelihood of more intense hurricanes Cat 5’s are increasing with overall temperature increase of the planet. Common sense dictates that New Orleans should not have been rebuilt but left to nature. Common sense also dictates that homes built in floodplains should not be rebuilt in the same place but yet the government pays flood insurance to do just that. There seems to be a lack of common sense anymore just the desire to find votes.

New Orleans is a man made city, so its flooding was a manmade disaster. Nature never intended those areas to be dry, it was men who built the levees and pumping system. The city did not flood during the storm, it was not till the levees failed that the disaster occurred

But...the BP oil spill was a mess....and nobody's blaming Obama for the goatfuck it turned into.
