Background checks don't ban anything. Quit lying.

Background checks also don't stop any crimes.

All the background checks in the world could not have stopped Sandy Hook, as the perpetrator stole the freaking guns. There is no system possible which can mandate thieves undergo background checks.

I disagree, but if that's what you think, then say that. Don't try to pretend background checks criminalize guns or gun sales, because they don't. Claiming that they do is a lie.

Good luck with that. Private guns sales are just that, private.

Another unenforceable law.

The way the government will enforce it is to send Undercover Agents into the state's cocktail lounges and taprooms offering weapons privately for cheap. Anyone who bites will nailed to the wall.

In 2016, we had 127 violent Felons stopped from purchasing firearms due to background checks. They were returned to Prison to no only finish their sentences but had new charges that they were convicted for attempting to buy those guns. That's 127 violent felons that were on parole that were taken off the streets. While there is no way of knowing exactly how many lives were saved, you can bet it was more than a few with these characters. Background Checks don't stop all but they do stop most of those that are NOT allowed to purchase firearms. And there is usually some damned good reasons that they are not allowed to purchase or own firearms. But I guess you must think the NRA sees them as a group that should be exploited for more sales even though there is more than an even chance that they will murder people in the process. Spotty Background Checks are worthless. Universal Background checks work and that is all NM did, it changed from spotty background checks to universal background checks. I guess the Mexican Cartels and the Metro City Gangs will have to go to Arizona and Texas for their guns.

The gangs in Chicago usually just buy their firearms right there in the Windy City.

What you fail to realize is that if someone is unable to buy a firearm through a legitimate gun dealer, they just go into the black market. In some communities, its virtually impossible for a law abider to legally buy a gun. Those folks are forced into the back rooms of bars and the back alley gunsmiths who ply their wears out of the trunks of their cars. These independent gunsmiths don't have the capability to do any background checks at all- they'll sell to anyone with the money.

The question isn't guns or no guns, its Legal, Safe weapons, or unregulated firearms sold to anyone.

They used to. But in 2015, Illinois went to universal background checks. Now, if they do buy them in Chitown, the guns are imported from outside the state.
