Someone is going to be fired at CNN for letting the cat out of the bag!

A new CNN poll shows a majority of Americans are opposed to impeaching Donald Trump. In September, a plurality of 47 percent supported impeaching the president. Today, 50 percent say Trump shouldn't be removed from office.

Americans break against that idea, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS. Half, 50%, say they don't feel that Trump ought to be impeached and removed from office, while 43% say he should be. Support for impeachment has dipped some since September, when 47% favored it, and is about the same as in a June poll (42% favored it then). Support for impeachment of Trump remains higher than it was for each of the last three presidents at any time it was asked. It's on par with President Richard Nixon, who 43% of Americans said should be impeached and removed from office in a March 1974 Harris poll.

The shift on impeachment comes mostly from political independents. In September, they were evenly split on the question, with 48% behind impeachment and 47% opposed. Now, 36% favor impeachment and 55% are opposed.

There's also been a meaningful shift on the question among younger adults (53% of those under age 45 backed impeachment in September, now that's down to 45%) and racial and ethnic minorities (66% favored it in September, 50% do now).

Is it just a coincidence that as the Russian collusion hysteria has disappeared down the rabbit hole — to be replaced by Michael Cohen hysteria — support for impeaching Trump has faded?

Just 12 percent of Democrats do not support impeaching the president. This doesn't prove polarization as much as it shows how deluded Democrats are as a party and why they are going to lose the presidency again in 2020.

This tweet is instructive:

I made this point on-air and was mocked by @JeffreyToobin. The whole animating ethos of the Dems is “resistance.” They have no agenda outside of Trump opposition, so they will absolutely impeach. Awful for our country, but inevitable. Buck Sexton on Twitter— Steve Cortes (@CortesSteve) December 12, 2018

The Democrats haven't had a serious agenda since 2008. In 2012, it was "re-elect the first black president." In 2016, it was "elect the first female president." What can they possibly offer the voters in 2020? "Medicare for all"? Faster, please. Free college tuition? Oh, yeah.
And who will be their candidate? One of the septuagenarians? Or one of the empty-headed radicals like Ocasio-Cortez or Beto?

Trying to impeach Trump will seal their fate -- much like it hurt Republicans in 1998. Ordinary Americans, unlike partisans, are very uneasy about overturning the results of an election without a slam-dunk case against the president.

Voters just aren't as stupid as Democrats think they are.

Someone notify the blood bank near CNN headquarters....slashing wrists will soon be commonplace at the once leading news network....

I wouldn't be making 2020 predictions today..no sir.

when and if, the rubber hits the road, President Trump better RESIGN and not go through impeachment...

IF he goes through impeachment, it is unconstitutional to PARDON any person impeached and removed... so a pres pence COULD NOT pardon him....

this is why Nixon resigned at the 11th hour... right before being impeached

He can be impeached like Cunton but just like Cunton, can not be removed from office the Senate would need to do that and since the CommieRATS don't control that.....

I don't know why CNN is polling anyway. They are far to much of politically biased entity to be given credence.

As if fake news wasn't enough, now we have fake polling ... again.

he could take his chances on that....

but no one is going to impeach him for lying about a BJ while under oath, IF he is ever brought to impeachment, it will be for crimes, real crimes and for his abuse of power.... and that would be the only way the House would impeach him... and would also pull Repubs in to voting for impeachment as well....

he will resign before an impeachment like that... so he can be pardoned for such crimes

otherwise he is shat out of luck, and will be prosecuted, once removed, in a court of law...

Let's be realistic, anyone that goes to CNN often is probably not independent or Republican-leaning. That their poll of their people shows that big of a percentage is very telling.

it's not... he will not be impeached, unless he has committed some down and dirty crimes... not simply lying about a bj.

Wouldn't Americans rather Congress addressed the problems of their constituents vs. political Kabuki theater?

Colossal waste of time, money, and effort. I hated that Ken Starr stuff, and it dragged on and on..and on..

Finally they got him (Clinton) on a technicality about some stuff I really didn't need to know. Fucking millions of dollars wasted. They should have to pay it all back out of their own pockets.

yes, no one wants to go through an impeachment process... unless it is for real criminal offenses... it is such a waste of valuable time, unless there really is some crimes committed, and not simply a perjury charge...

Trump won't be impeached because there is no evidrnce of any wrongdoing. Democrats make up stories then believe them. Then try to act on them. Eventually they are stopped.

Leftist tears taste like battery acid. There will be much wailing when they fail to depose a legally elected president.

Surely you jest, Tipsy? The snippets of evidence we've gleaned from the heavily redacted sentencing reports for Cohen and Manafort point to a couple of felonies committed by the President, and who knows what's hidden in those blanked-out pages!
To continue to bleat 'No Collusion' is just delusional whining.
Collusion is only a part of Mueller's investigations, and he's got a row of canaries singing night and day in the office.
You ain't seen nothin' yet, and, like Nixon, the Orange Turd will probably resign, maybe while he's on a trip to Russia to visit his handler, Pootie. That way he'll be able to avoid spending the rest of his life in the slammer.

We will see what Mr Mueller has to say on that
