New and Improved Version of 'Bush Did It"

If that was the criteria (lying) for being booted out of office, you'd never have a president serve out his first month, let alone first term..

i figure anyone who tolerated baby bush for eight years really has no standing to do anything but hang their head and shut up.

I can Promise you that that is not going to happen.

oh... i didn't think it would. i assumed you would keep the faux outrage going...and going...and going...

But there is no doubt that Afghanistan was always second fiddle to Iraq in the Bush Administration "GWOT".

Anyone whose ever written an OPORDER knows what the implication of being the "Main Effort" (as Iraq was so dubbed in the War on Terror) is.

As for protests in the rank, given the administration's penchant to punish the rank and file that dared to disagree with them, I am not surprised that public statements weren't made about the lack of resources.

As for Rumsfield, the man is in a tight race with McNamara as the worse SECDEF ever. He has absolutely no credibility. He didn't "anticipate the insurgency" and thought the Air Force was going to win the war with "Shock and Awe".

In other words, he's a major fuck-wit that was out of his element from day one.

Thank God we have Gates now. That was Bush's smartest move.

After the "Saddam has links to Al-Queda" then "Weapons of mass destruction" then "Weapons of mass destruction programs" then finally "Saddam was a BAD MAN" Honesty and Donald Rumsfeldt are antonyms.

Really?? Then the following people where lost in the same fantasy......

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line."
--President Bill Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
--President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

"Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face."
--Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998

"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983."
--Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998

"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs."
Letter to President Clinton, signed by:
-- Democratic Senators Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, and others, Oct. 9, 1998

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
-Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

"Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies."
-- Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999

"There is no doubt that ... Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies."
Letter to President Bush, Signed by:
-- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), and others, Dec 5, 2001

"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and th! e means of delivering them."
-- Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."
-- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power."
-- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction."
-- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..."
-- Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002

"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security."
-- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002

"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction."
-- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002

"He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do"
-- Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
-- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction."
-- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002

"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real..."
-- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

You need to see it from all sides, however many there are.....

Thank God we have Gates now. That was Bush's smartest move.

Rumsfeld did screw up pretty bad in Iraq and Bush was wrong for allowing him in there so long, But I have to admit that the initial battle plans for Iraq were superb. Rumsfeld blew it immediately following the initial war. And was screwed up from then on.

A Rumsfeld aide sends over a statement:

“In his speech to the nation last night, President Obama claimed that ‘Commanders in Afghanistan repeatedly asked for support to deal with the reemergence of the Taliban, but these reinforcements did not arrive.’ Such a bald misstatement, at least as it pertains to the period I served as Secretary of Defense, deserves a response.”

“I am not aware of a single request of that nature between 2001 and 2006. If any such requests occurred, ‘repeated’ or not, the White House should promptly make them public. The President's assertion does a disservice to the truth and, in particular, to the thousands of men and women in uniform who have fought, served and sacrificed in Afghanistan.”

“In the interest of better understanding the President's announcement last night, I suggest that the Congress review the President’s assertion in the forthcoming debate and determine exactly what requests were made, who made them, and where and why in the chain of command they were denied.”

Rumsfeld had an "aide" type this up? What, was he too busy playing backgammon?

As for the second bolded part:

IMO (and I only speak for myself), Rumsfeld did us a disservice by his continual piss-poor leadership.

At least Gates has the decency to personally sign the letters to families of the fallen. Rumsfeld autosigned them.

Or maybe he had his "aide" do it.

That's like saying "we played a good first quarter".

The administration somehow, for reasons known only to them, thought this was going to be a conventional war. They "failed to anticipate the insurgency. I guess they weren't fucking paying attention in '98 when Task Force Ranger got shot up in Mogidishu. I guess none of them read "Blackhawk Down: A Story of MODERN Warfare".

So an author had it figured out a decade ago, but brainiacs like Cheney and Rumsfeld didn't? They are either lying or criminally stupid.

The ground war was the easy part. The insurgency was the hard part. And the Army knew damn well that LIC urban combat was going to be the war of the future. That's why every maneuver Infantry unit added urban mock-ups and changed the METL. That's why "Shugart-Gordon" is now the final hurrah of JRTC.

The Army knew. I am sure they told Rumsfeld. Rumsfeld didn't listen, because he was a giant fuck-up who couldn't lead ants to a picnic.

I also am not a huge subscriber to the notion that Tommy Franks was the greatest General since Patton.

It took all of those stars to retire to get guys like Petreaus into positions of leadership before we had General Officers who knew how to fight an insurgency.

It's a shame and the soldiers suffered due to the pencil pushers and the soul sucking careerist military officers. Who couldn't figure out that their thirty years of training to fight the Soviets was absolutely useless.

You need to see it from all sides, however many there are.....

Harsh words are one thing, but the reason Iraq wasn't attacked was because we knew they had no capacity to wage any kind of war against us. Those words were used to keep sanctions in place and you know that. Everyone knows it.

Iraq had their butts kicked out of Kuwait, couple that with the 8 year war against Iran and we all knew that Iraq had neither the inductrial complex nor the young people to wage war. Duh!

Why are Republicans delusional? That's the real question.

Rummy buggered Iraq, forgot afghanistan, and is famous for "Known unknowns".

You really want to take that guy seriously?

Honestly..

When unarmoured hummers are patrolling every day. When "Hillbilly Armour" is on the menu...Of course this guy feels safe in Iraq. He's in a Rhino.

Alvin, anyone "buggering" Iraq, etc., are the HYPOCRITICAL and TREACHEROUS Dems.

Yep. Clinton and his Adm., plus 99% of the Congressional Dems, including Pelosi, Reid, The Chappaquidick Murderer, the Pathological Liar Kerry, etc.....ALL CLAMOURED for the violent removal of the Baghdad Monster.

Bush, using his judgment, agreed with these HYPOCRITICAL and TREACHEROUS Dems.

USING THE IDENTICAL VERBIAGE of the HYPOCRITICAL and TREACHEROUS Dems (including their IDENTICAL VERBIAGE re WMDs), Bush WITH THE EXPLICIT BACKING of the Sex Maniac and Hellary, plus 99% of the Congressional Dems went to War against Iraq ........and using Rumsfeld, YES, RUMSFELD..... annihilated the FOURTH LARGEST ARMY IN THE WORLD in TWENTY TWO DAYS !!!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED !!!

However......The HYPOCRITICAL and TREACHEROUS Dems realizing that their chances in the Upcoming Elections were DOOMED..........made a MONOLITHIC 180 degree about face, and using their 24/7 Lib Controlled National Media ANNIHILATED Bush (and Rumsfeld) by blowing up every minor glitch in the mop up operations a THOUSAND TIMES OVER, sending an UNEQUIVOCAL GREEN LIGHT to Iran, and the other Islamofascist Swine to start the IRAQI QUAGMIRE.

Iran and the Islamofascist Swine are off the wall Whackjobs, but they are NOT STUPID. Every one of their TENTATIVE initial successes were greeted with an AVALANCHE of VITRIOLIC CRITICISMS of Bush......POLITICALLY tying his (and Rumsfeld's) hands behind their back.

Iran just recently had a bloody war with Iraq. After some FOUR YEARS, with OVER A MILLION DEAD, the war was fought to a standstill.

DO YOU THINK IRAN, WITHOUT THE TACIT AGREEMENT WITH THE DEMS SENDING THEIR UNMISTAKABLE "GREEN LIGHT" ENCOURAGEMENT (with the Dems' OBVIOUS interest in the Upcoming Elections) WENT UNNOTICED BY IRAN and the other ISLAMOFASCIST SWINE ?!?!?

DO YOU THINK THAT WITHOUT THIS TACIT "GO AHEAD" FROM THE HYPOCRITICAL and TREACHEROUS DEMS......IRAN and the other ISLAMOFASCIST SWINE woulda attacked THE MOST POWERFUL MILITARY FORCE IN THIS PLANET'S HISTORY ?????THAT JUST WIPED OUT IRAQ IN TWENTY TWO DAYS ?????

And, don't try to weasle out by using the example of Vietnam where America had to withdraw. In THAT scenario, there was the strong possibility of a GLOBAL WAR with CHINA. And, maybe even RUSSIA. Iran is a completely different situation, where their GEOGRAPHY is ideally suited for Blitzkrieg, tank and armour troops movement, i.e. TOTAL ANNIHILATION if America was UNITED.

However, Vietnam did show to the Iranians and the Islamofascist Swine the power of the LIEBTARDS in swaying the issue in their favour as an adjunct exemplified by the HYPOCRITICAL and TREACHEROUS Dems quest for victory in the UPCOMING ELECTIONS !!!!

The ANNIHILATION of Bush over IRAQ was the GREATEST POLITICAL SCAM IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD.

The 24/7 POWER of the Technological superiority of the Dems mouthiece, The National Media, made Nazi Germany Goebbel's Propaganda Machine an insignificant fart by comparison.

The 24/7 Lib Controlled National Media, the mouthpiece of the HYPOCRITICAL and TREACHEROUS DEMS, did their damage not only with the continuance of the IRAQ QUAGMIRE, AFGHANISTAN and the aggravated troubles in the Mid East.......BUT ALSO .......by making Bush a Lameduck President with his hands POLITICALLY TIED behind his back......the Congress and the Senate was EFFECTIVELY in control by these DEM SCUMBAGS.

The Congressional HOUSE Honcho in charge of Finances was Barney Frank. The SENATE Honcho in charge of Finances was Chris Dodd. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were under the control of the CORRUPT CEOS (in both cases) strongly tied to the WHIMS of the abovementioned Congressional Honchos.

Was it surprising that these abovementioned CEOs (Fannie and Freddie) were BOTH APPOINTED AS "TOP FINANCIAL ADVISORS" in MARXIST Obami Salami's INITIAL CABINET.....but then SUDDENLY EVAPORATED, with rapid resignations, as soon as the spotlight was turned on them ?????

NO WONDER WE ARE WHERE WE ARE FINANCIALLY ......NOT BECAUSE OF BUSH (or RUMSFELD).....but because of the HYPOCRISY and TREACHERY of the CORRUPT DEMS !!!!

So, you fucking LIEBTARD POS, don't ry to pull the wool over the eyes with your CRAP about Bush (and, in this case Rumsfeld) in "buggering up" anything.

I am of the mind that had our civilian leadership been on the ball, that the insurgency would have been very small and very short lived. But then I could be wrong.

So, you fucking LIEBTARD POS, don't ry to pull the wool over the eyes with your CRAP about Bush (and, in this case Rumsfeld) in "buggering up" anything.

I hate to bust your delusional bubble sprite, but Republicans held both houses, the presidency and had a majority in the Supreme court. All information supplied by the CIA was by Cheney's direction. Everything that happened was on the Republicans. So why ARE the Republicans delusional? Is it the God thing?

You have to hand it to Republicans. They are really easy to laugh at. If they say in a "satiric" tone, "Bush did it", then, in their tiny minds, it's somehow means, wink, wink, that Bush can either be excused or that he didn't really "do it". Besides, Obama owns it now. Somehow, in their minds, all the disasters are now Obama's as if he somehow created them.

The truth is, Bush wasn't really the problem. He was the "symptom".

The Republican Party has been subjugated by the Religious Right. Kooks, one and all. They have a litany of disaster and dangerous ignorant ideology.

The fact that a formally mainstream political party could push "magical creation" as a viable alternative to "science" profoundly demonstrates that these people truly live in an alternative universe.

It's no wonder that a group that would push such an over the top, destructive and ridiculous concept in spite of the startling amount of contrary physical and scientific evidence amply proves, beyond a doubt, that they will never believe anything other than what they want to believe. This is a political party that has turned it back on reason. The list of Republican disasters over the last 10 years is endless.

Is it any wonder they refuse even the tiniest bit of responsibility? Instead of a shred of introspection, they shift the blame for their massive ideological failure to those they feel, "refuse to understand". You can almost hear them crying, "It's not us, we're right, it's them who refuse to see "our" truth".

They are so blinded, they see Iraq in one of two ways. Either a "stunning success in democracy" or "ungrateful" for what we did to them.

Every comment made by Republicans reinforce my feelings.

Now you are repeating a flaccid excuse for not caring as to the veracity of the charges made by the secretary.

Further, you lack understanding of the article referenced in the OP, if you believe that
"one should not take his view ..."

My new friend, it is not Rumsfeld's 'view,' but rather whether he is telling the truth or President Obama is telling the truth.

The truth matters, doen't it, Alvin?

And since Secretary Rumsfeld has called for a Congressional investigation, it seems that the preponderance of hypothesizing should be in his favor, no?

Further, it would show intiative on your part if you were to venture an explanation of why the President might make up history out of 'whole cloth.'

Care to do so?

Or, you can simply shrug your shoulders and wander off.

Why?

The chances of there being a Congressional investigation are slim to none...it's a safe gamble for Rumsfeld to call for one. Perhaps one should consider, as with the other vocal critic Cheney...who has a legacy to preserve?

Don't be a knucklehead. The president enacts foreign policy initiatives. He lobbied for this war in congress, not the other way around.

I blame the Democrats that believed him for being suckers. That's why I didn't vote for Hillary.

I am of the mind that had our civilian leadership been on the ball, that the insurgency would have been very small and very short lived. But then I could be wrong.

I certainly think we could have done better. Why in the fuck did we dismantle the Army?

That was the first major mistake. followed by many more.

Actually, IMO, the first mistake was not only in not listening to Shinseki, but in publicly humiliating him. Did you know Rumsfeld didn't even attend his "retirement" ceremony?

Firing anyone that gives you their honest opinion just produces boot lickers.

And we wonder why it became a cluster fuck over there.

Wow...this sounds like a synthesis of The Muppet Show, Batman and Robin, and the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show with a smattering of Fractured Fairy Tales.

Oh the drama!!!! Will our hero overcome the Islamofascist Swine?

Oh hell - you deserve rep for this!

Really?? Then the following people where lost in the same fantasy......

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line."
--President Bill Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

Trotting out long stream of cherry-picked out-context-quotes might look damning but is essentially meaningless without the context.

This list is probably the most overused cut and paste job I've seen endlessly presented as some sort of "proof".
