A Nevada Assemblyman is bringing forward a constitutional amendment that would allow the state to create and run a lottery.

Democratic Assemblyman Harvey Munford introduced AJR 6 on Tuesday on the Assembly floor. The resolution would allow the state Legislature to create and manage a lottery, and require lottery profits support public education and senior citizens.

The Las Vegas Democrat said the resolution would help increase state revenues without burdensome tax increases.

Las Vegas Sands' spokesman Ron Reese said the casino company would oppose the legislation.

The resolution would need to be approved by two consecutive legislative sessions before going to the voters in 2018 for final approval.

You can play a state lottery, but not a Nevada lottery.

You can play the Massachusetts Lottery's Megabucks Doubler. I subscribe from the comfort of my phone. They charge a few dollars to send tickets by UPS.

It's a bit of fun, and I'm helping young Americans, even if it is in another state.

Opposition's hypocritical as hell in this instance. And pretty obviously biased. I don't gamble or approve of gambling, but in Nevada of all places, ya sure why the hell not? :)

The casino industry is too influential and will defeat it.

They only accepted Megabucks as the casinos share a part of the net even though it was enacted as a modified form of lottery with proceeds supposedly going to the state education fund.
