Net Neutrality Revisited

"President Trump has settled on Republican Ajit Pai as his choice for chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, sources told The Hill Friday.

The move was widely expected and certain to be welcomed by Republican lawmakers.

Look for Pai to hit the ground running as soon as the pick is made official.

Pai is currently a commissioner on the FCC board and an outspoken critic of many of the regulations pushed by former Chairman Tom Wheeler, who stepped down Friday.

Most notably, he has been a fierce opponent of the net neutrality rules enshrined in the FCC's Open Internet Order, and all signs point to Republicans gearing up to roll back elements of the regulation."

Trump’s F.C.C. Pick Quickly Targets Net Neutrality Rules
...as the chairman of the F.C.C., Mr. Pai released about a dozen actions in the last week, many buried in the agency’s website and not publicly announced, stunning consumer advocacy groups and telecom analysts. They said Mr. Pai’s message was clear: The F.C.C., an independent agency, will mirror the Trump administration’s rapid unwinding of government regulations that businesses fought against during the Obama administration."

John Stossel wrote a piece exposing the smears by the NYTimes.
He included this, on the new FCC chair:

"One more smear:

"President Trump's pick to lead the Federal Communications Commission, Ajit Pai, has aggressively moved to roll back consumer protection regulations."

Consumer protection? No. Socialist idiocy.

The Times says Pai "stopped nine companies from providing discounted high-speed internet service to low-income individuals."

No, he stopped a $9.25/month government subsidy for high-speed internet.

"He withdrew an effort to keep prison phone rates down," says the Times.

No, he stopped FCC lawyers from fighting about in-state phone calls because the FCC has no constitutional authority there.

Utterly reasonable. But the Times quotes an advocacy group saying, "Chairman Pai is showing his true stripes ... (doing) favors for the powerful corporations."

Please. Someone. Tell The New York Times that socialism was tried. It doesn't work."

"FCC Chief Sets Up Clash With Call to Repeal Net Neutrality
The rules, passed with only Democratic votes at the FCC in 2015, forbid broadband providers such as AT&T Inc. and Comcast Corp. from blocking or slowing certain web traffic, or from charging higher fees in return for quicker passage over their networks.
The U.S. Federal Communications Commission chairman proposed rolling back the Obama-era net-neutrality rule as the regulation’s defenders vowed a “tsunami” of resistance."
