Neocon Fossil Bob Bennett (Squish-UT) Ditched

SALT LAKE CITY – Republican Sen. Bob Bennett was thrown out of office Saturday by delegates at the Utah GOP convention in what represents a stunning defeat for a once-popular three-term incumbent who fell victim to a growing conservative movement nationwide.

Bennett's failure to make it into Utah's GOP primary — let alone win his party's nomination — makes him the first congressional incumbent to be ousted this year and demonstrates the difficult challenges candidates are facing from the right in 2010.

<snip>

Bennett has been under fire for the past year for voting for a Wall Street bailout, co-sponsoring a bipartisan bill mandating health insurance coverage and for aggressively pursuing earmarks for his state.

Lee and Bridgewater pledged to be more fiscally conservative than Bennett, who was targeted for defeat by the Washington-based anti-tax group Club for Growth.

The GOP will never, ever return to majority for very long without Republicans with common sense who recognize that COMPROMISE is an absolute requirement. Even the founding fathers knew that.

A bout goddamn time too. Been ticked at him being called a 'true conservative' by Hannity for years now. The guy's 'John McCain lite'.

hannity is a tool. only supports neocons and other big government lovers. I am completely perplexed how he became a voice of conservatism

He has his moments, but he has prevaricated too much in recent years to carry water for the GOP and talk about stupid side topics. It's part of why I don't really listen much any more and have gone to listening more to Glenn Beck, Jason Lewis and Chris Baker. Why? They don't play the parties, they point out right and wrong, good and evil, and speak out against elitism and all theats to liberty regardless of party.

Huh, I guess this is very illustrative of what is happening on the party level. Even talk show hosts that begin to moderate, or sell out their ideals will soon be left behind for those who don't. I've no desire to waste attention on party hacks. I even listen occasionally to Tom Hartmann to realize how totally screwed up the other side is.

I stopped listening to Hannity awhile ago. I listen to Boortz, Beck, Limbaugh, Levin, And Ingraham.

Its supposed to be a bad year for incumbents. Its about time we got rid of the whores and put in someone who can run the country like its supposed to be run.

Any suggestions? And just who among any newbies won't also get caught up in the system? They ALL think they're going to march into D.C. like Mr. Smith and shake things up. It just doesn't happen quickly enough to satisfy people when they ridiculously expect instant results. Soon you'll be whining about the replacements. Stay tuned.

If he's smart...he will announce his retirement before it's too late. Look at all the Democrat incumbents who would have lost the election who have quit as of late....they see the writing on the wall but are being smart about it. By announcing their retirement they get to keep their campaign warchests, get their retirement pay and many many other benefits including free healthcare. Smart.

While it may be true they keep those things as they bolt. Their bolting is not a shield to absolve them from the damge they've done. They don't deserve a lick of it IMHO.

Compromise????!!!! Are you fucking kidding me? The Republicans already know what compromise is....and in case you forgot...the only Democrat who used to compromise with Republicans over major issues is DEAD. And if you need a reminder on how the Democrats "compromised" see the healthcare bill and how they corrupted the whole process of government then rammed a law down the throats of the MAJORITY of Americans. I'm sure the founding fathers would be real proud of Reid and Pelosi....right before they were taken out behind the White House and tarred and feathered.

I'm definitely gonna remember all the nutters on this board who have predicted the GOP will soon become "Extinct" or a "Permanent Minority." See ya on Election Day. Make 2010 count people.

Here are the facts pea brain. The GOP will become extinct. It may not be in 2 years, but the tsunami that will drown the GOP...demographics...

Keep passing laws like Arizona's immigration bill and cheerleading for the torture of Muslims...

For Republicans, the Ice Age Cometh

Despairing Republican friends have been asking me what I think we should do to rebuild the GOP and begin our certain and inevitable comeback. My answer disappoints them: "Build an ark."

I say this because I've made a career out of counting votes, and the numbers tell a clear story; the demographics of America are changing in a way that is deadly for the Republican Party as it exists today. A GOP ice age is on the way.

In 1980, Latino voters cast about 2% of all votes. Last year it was 9%, and Obama won that Hispanic vote with a crushing 35-point margin. By 2030, the Latino share of the vote is likely to double. In Texas, the crucial buckle for the GOP's Electoral College belt, the No. 1 name for new male babies — many of whom will vote one day — is Jose. Young voters are another huge GOP problem. Obama won voters under 30 by a record 33 points. And the young voters of today, while certainly capable of changing their minds, do become all voters tomorrow.

A 2008 report from the Census Bureau projects that by 2042, non-Hispanic whites will no longer make up the majority of the population. This is a revision of earlier projections which projected this demographic change to take place in 2050.

Today, non-Hispanic whites make up about 68% of the population. This is expected to fall to 46% in 2050. The report foresees the Hispanic population rising from 15% today to 30% by 2050. Today African Americans make up 12% of the population, in 2050 they are projected to comprise 15% of the population. Asian Americans make up 5% of the population today and they are expected to make up 9% in 2050.

Today Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. According to population estimates there are between 1.3-1.6 billion Muslims worldwide equal to approximately 25 percent of the entire world population.

The Muslim population of the United States has increased at a rapid pace since the 1960’s. Growth has been driven predominantly by rising immigration, increased birthrates, and widespread conversion efforts.

Of the 1,200 mosques in the United States nearly 80 percent have been built in the past 12 years. Fore example, in 2005, 96,000 immigrants from Islamic countries became permanent legal residents of the United States.

And then run out of town on a rail for the damage they've caused to people.

three terms is too long period. No matter how good, there comes a time that they should return to private life.

But TARP is the kiss of death. No one who voted for TARP should be re elected

Record-Breaking Republican Obstructionism
Cloture-vote-chart-full-0528.gif

Republican obstructionism is preventing the vast majority of legislation from moving forward and is thwarting the will of the American people.

DITTO--The tea party movement in this country has encumbant Republicans shaking in their boots too. John McCain in trouble in Arizona--Crist a certain shoe-in for senate in Florida--out of personal political ambition had to go Independent--because he was so far behind his republican opponent.

This is going on all over the country.

You gotta love it. Can you imagine the extreme white wing having debates with moderate Democrats?

Teabagger: Boyking, Obama, a “boy” who is an empty suit, a racist, terrorist, child molester, Marxist, Kenyan, watermelon eating, totalitarian, Socialist, drug addicted, gay, Nazi, black, Muslim, Communist, illegal Alien who wants to kill your grandmother and is the "anti Christ"?

The Sane: No, he's the president.

Teabagger: Keep government away from my Healthcare.

The Sane: How much do you pay for Healthcare.

Teabagger: I get Medicare and Medicaid. Keep government away from my Medicare and Medicaid.

The Sane: Medicare and Medicaid are government programs.

Teabagger: Obama is trying to take away my gun rights.

The Sane: Obama signed a bill into law that expanded your gun rights.

Teabagger: I want government to give me a job.

The Sane: I thought you didn't want government's help.

Teabagger: You socialist. You hate this country.

Again--we witness the supposed superior intelligence of a LIBERAL--who does not seem to understand that if we keep up this massive government spending--we are going to look like GREECE in the very near future.

Right now every single household in this country OWES the federal government 100K. By 2020 it is expected to be 170K. If you're a student just entering the work force you owe 120K in INTEREST alone on the national debt--if you're 38 you will be pay $140K in INTEREST alone on the national debt.

Upps forgot. FACTS don't matter to liberals.

No one can BORROW and SPEND their way to PROSPERITY.

The FACT is that you people choose to ignore that the White House is not taking the deficit problem lightly. Since Congress is gridlocked completely over spending and taxation, an independent commission has been formed take a hard look at what needs to be done, and they have until December 1, 2010, to make their recommendations. But I guess you can't wait that long, and already decided that the whole situation is an apocalypse waiting to happen.

This commission, which Republicans in the Senate managed to filibuster (go figure), was thereafter established by Executive Order. Called the Committee on Fiscal Responsibility, made up of 10 Democrats and 8 Republicans, co-chaired by Alan Simpson (R) and Erskine Bowles (D), they held their first meeting on April 27, 2010.

The commission is charged with reducing the deficit to $550 billion by 2015, or about 3% of GDP. Since Republicans expect to become the majority by December 1st, it will be interesting to see how many of their recommendations actually get Congressional approval and enacted.

Of course it's also possible that the Commission's recommendations will get moved to the back burner for seven years or so, just like the 911 Commission's recommendations. That way, Republicans can yammer for at least another four years that the continuing deficit is all the fault of the Democrats, just in time for the 2012 presidential election.

Ain't politics fun?
