Nearly 1 In 5 Millennials Consider Joseph Stalin And Kim Jong Un ‘Heroes’

THANK GOODNESS four in five millennial do NOT think they are heros!

Okay, but don't you think with this trend, it will eventually be four out of five unless we do something about it now?

First, I don't think that poll is accurate.

Second, who would you consider a "hero" historically? One could make the argument Stalin saved the world from Hitler. Of course, Stalin also enabled Hitler, but so did the leaders of the west. A lot of Russians still admire Stalin.

I don't know if the Russians do admire Stalin, but if they do, it goes back to their education; the same problem I believe is happening here.

Nearly one in five millennials consider Joseph Stalin and Kim Jong Un “heroes,” according to a Thursday poll.

The poll demonstrated an increase in acceptance of socialism and communism among American millennials and was released by the Victims of Communism Memorial Fund.

One-half of millennials and one-third of Americans would prefer to reside in a socialist or communist nation instead of a capitalist democracy, according to the poll.

“One in five (23%) of Americans age 21-29 consider Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin a ‘hero’; 26% for Vladimir Lenin; 23% for Kim Jong Un,” the study notes. Furthermore, over one-fifth of millennials surveyed had a positive opinion of Karl Marx.

The study also found that 71 percent of millennials could not pinpoint communism’s definition and four-fifths of the generation did not know how many lives were lost as a result of the ideology.

The question is, how do these people form their opinions? Where do these young people (not long out of high school) get their information from?

Before any of you leftists try to discredit the report, let me remind you that Bernie Sanders is an admitted Socialist, and he was a close second for the Democrat presidential nominee. Now we find out the only reason he didn't get the nomination is because the race was fixed against him. So this poll seems to reflect the election outcome.

If people are saying they would rather live in a government system they know nothing about, it can only mean one thing, and that is they were "told" how great such a system is. Who told them that?

I'm telling ya, we really need to do something about our education and social programs, and I don't mean throw more money at it.
You meant to say that 1 in 5 of the millennials polled said etc, etc...

I think 1 in 5 millennials like to pull the piss on pollsters...

Then how do you explain the results of the last election.....or the elections before? After all, DumBama had the endorsement of the US Communist Party both times.

Nope:

On 3 September 2016, news and current events blog NewsBusters posted an article claiming that the Communist Party of the USA (CPUSA) had endorsed Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. The claim was contextualized with the idea that the media at large was ignoring the story in favor of reporting on the fact that a Klansman had thrown his support behind Clinton’s (ultimately victorious) rival, Donald Trump:

So with all this attention to Trump on David Duke, surely you read the news about John Bachtell, right? He endorsed Hillary and the headlines were everywhere. Oh, wait, sorry. Mr. Bachtell’s Hillary endorsement was apparently not newsy enough to make the mainstream media headlines. Curious, yes? If the endorsement of Trump by the ex-head of the Ku Klux Klan is big news, one would expect a Hillary endorsement by the head of the Communist Party USA would be a big deal as well.

It may indeed have been a big deal — if it were true. CPUSA sent us a statement emphasizing that the group had not endorsed Clinton, or any other candidate:

The answer to your question is NO. In 2016 CPUSA did not have any candidates on the ballot, but nevertheless it does not issue endorsements of candidates of other parties. The Communist Party does, however, encourage all Americans to participate fully in the electoral process, voting and working with their unions and other community organizations in the pursuit of the goals of protecting the environment, union rights, immigrant rights, peace, raising the minimum wage, ending police abuse of African American, Indian and Latino Americans and other social justice issues that value people before profits and address the struggles of the 99%.

World History should be a requirement in high school...when I went to H.S. we had the OPTION of taking either World history or American History...I took world history but most in my high school chose American History....

I wish I had ALSO taken American History, along with world History...but you could not take both....

And Bernie is not Stalin, nor even close to him, for goodness sake!
Two semesters of civics and government, two semesters of world history, one semester of geography, and two semesters of US history.

We were well schooled.

Yeah, so when Obama saved Capitalism from itself (which is what Democrats seem to do) he must have disappointed them terribly.

I don't think so. They also strongly supported Sanders, and stated if he lost, the would throw their support behind Clinton.

starts with the parents....

Parents can only do so much. I place the blame in our schools. They should be teaching kids about history such as our fight against Communism and other destructive governments.

I guess it was more popular to do so when I was a kid. On the other hand, we used to practice running to the school shelters in the event the Soviet Union were to send a nuke our way.

I too remember Duck and Cover drills and the air raid sirens being tested every Tuesday at Noon (today they are used only as a Tsunami Warning). I remember Social Studies in primary and Jr. hi, and survey courses in US and World History (focus on Western Civilization) in High School.

Then at the U. I took history course in such as Economic and Diplomatic History in the US, and histories course on Asian, South and Central American and European growth, development and form of governance. Both CAL and SFSU were public schools as well as my K - 12 education.

You write (paint with) a broad brush and post nothing more than the current GOP meme, i.e. the effort by the Republicans to eliminate public education and make all education for profit, and unregulated by a democratically elected school board.

The only way to defeat him is Hillary Clinton, the first woman in history with a chance of being elected. The difference is abysmal. Barack Obama did not exaggerate when he said she was more prepared to be President than he –Obama– or her husband, Bill Clinton.

Hillary does not represent a revolutionary alternative. Choosing her will not produce the radical transformation of US society. But right now she is the only hope to stop barbarism.

It is possible to beat Trump. But it needs to be a crushing defeat: a landslide of votes that puts this unprecedented demagogue out of action, and also allows the start of a new stage where “Trumpism” can be defeated, because it is a disease that corrodes US society and threatens humanity.

Hillary´s hour

I had the same but not geography. My Social Studies Teachers was also an art teacher and most of what I remember was drawing the boarders of countries in Europe, Asia, South and Central America and the states in the US and the Canadian province's; in the latter two the names of the capitals. Those were the only tests I remember taking and the maps of the former - Asia and Europe - have changed.

He calls himself a "democratic socialist".* He personally, with or without the other 17-18 members of HIS branch of the -0- are free to vote for whom they please.

*Note: North Korea is the People's Republic, (if you are in the leadership family that is.)

The last step to Communism is Socialism. I find this poll very frightening.

The final step to an Oligarchy was taken by a very small percentage of voters in November last:

"The most important states, though, were Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Trump won those states by 0.2, 0.7 and 0.8 percentage points, respectively — and by 10,704, 46,765 and 22,177 votes. Those three wins gave him 46 electoral votes; if Clinton had done one point better in each state, she'd have won the electoral vote, too."

Donald Trump will be president thanks to 80,000 people in three states

I don't know if the Russians do admire Stalin, but if they do, it goes back to their education; the same problem I believe is happening here.

So they aren't telling the story about Stalin you like?

It seems to me if the record on Stalin is presented, and 4 out of 5 say, "What an asshole" and 1 out of 5 say, "What a hero", then they probably did a pretty good job of presenting the evidence.

I don't think so. They also strongly supported Sanders, and stated if he lost, the would throw their support behind Clinton.

Except not enough of them did, which is why Trump was able to steal the election.

Here's the thing. while some people watch as their boss cancels their health insurance and goes along with it, others look at the current system and realize it's fucked up.

Disagree, history is not emphasized in our schools. I heard "you can't make money on HISTORY" in undergrad when I chose to concentrate (the word the University used at the time, FIELD OF CONCENTRATION.) in US history.
