NBA moving 2017 All-Star Game from Charlotte over HB2 bill

NBA Pulls 2017 All-Star Game From North Carolina in Wake of 'Bathroom Bill'

The NBA announced this afternoon that it has pulled the 2017 All-Star Game from Charlotte, North Carolina after the state passed the controversial 'bathroom bill' this past March that essentially made it illegal for transgender people to use the bathroom that corresponds with their gender they identify with, a stripping back of LGBT civil rights. :bang3: :ack-1: :321:

Does anybody watch the NBA anymore? I haven't since Larry Bird retired.
I've watched my last NBA game. Only ACC basketball from now on.

Great statement from NC's governor

Raleigh, N.C. – Governor Pat McCrory released the following statement on the NBA's decision about the 2017 All-Star game:

"The sports and entertainment elite, Attorney General Roy Cooper and the liberal media have for months misrepresented our laws and maligned the people of North Carolina simply because most people believe boys and girls should be able to use school bathrooms, locker rooms and showers without the opposite sex present. Twenty-one other states have joined North Carolina to challenge the federal overreach by the Obama administration mandating their bathroom policies in all businesses and schools instead of allowing accommodations for unique circumstances. Left-wing special interest groups have no moral authority to try and intimidate the large majority of American parents who agree in common-sense bathroom and shower privacy for our children. American families should be on notice that the selective corporate elite are imposing their political will on communities in which they do business, thus bypassing the democratic and legal process."

Thanks for posting McCrory's statement. Hopefully, he'll keep making stupid bigoted statements North Carolinians disagree with.

I'm going to take a guess - you don't add links (see below) to your messages because they would show you to be a trumpinessliar... If you don't like NBC/Marist/WSJ polls, it's not very bright to quote RealClear.

I realize this is a difficult time to self-identify with the screwball Republican party but try-----do try to keep it together.

But getting back on topic, how do feel about your weak, subservient governor getting his ass handed to him on his own GOP LGBTQ SNAFU?

Speaking of delusional...
According to the Charlotte Observer HB2 will cost the state of North Carolina $5 billion/year - and yet-----and yet we have low information posters right here on this thread stupidly claiming the law will only affect a one day all-star game. -pewsh-

Editorial: House Bill 2 is about discrimination, not merely bathrooms

-- Calling HB2 a “bathroom bill” misses the most important point.
-- Under North Carolina law in HB2, businesses can refuse to serve transgender people.
-- North Carolina’s reputation around the nation is soiled.
-- Should laws be passed just to stoke fear and division to drive some voters to the polls?

North Carolina’s House Bill 2 is more than who should, or shouldn’t be in a particular public restroom.

House Bill 2 does one very simple and dangerous thing. It legalizes, under North Carolina law, discrimination against certain people because they may be lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
Remember the famous 1960 Greensboro Woolworth’s lunch counter sit-in. Think those days are over?
Think again. Under North Carolina law, it is ok for a restaurant to put a sign above the lunch counter that says “We Don’t Serve Gays.” Under state law, it is just fine for an employer to fire workers, for no other reason than they are gay or transsexual.

Only the businesses in nc lose. So i could care less then. I dont live in that state so those businesses are of no concern to me...let them falter.

NBA moving 2017 All-Star Game from Charlotte over HB2 bill

LAS VEGAS -- The NBA is moving the the 2017 All-Star Game in February from Charlotte because of its objection to North Carolina House Bill 2, which limited anti-discrimination protections in the state.

In a statement, the league said it hopes to reschedule the game to appear in Charlotte in 2019.

"Since March, when North Carolina enacted HB2 and the issue of legal protections for the LGBT community in Charlotte became prominent, the NBA and the Charlotte Hornets have been working diligently to foster constructive dialogue and try to effect positive change," the league said. "We have been guided in these discussions by the long-standing core values of our league. These include not only diversity, inclusion, fairness and respect for others but also the willingness to listen and consider opposing points of view.
