"threatened to strain diplomatic relations with Mexico".

"Further use of National Guard troops “could create a perception of a militarized U.S. border with Mexico,” State Department officials told theGAO".

We wouldn't want to upset Mexico. They are such good neighbors.

Guess what?

It doesn't matter because they weren't armed and had no power anyway. All they could do was sit in really stupid towers and stare at blank screens. They couldn't see anything and just sat up there on these tall stilts and baked in the desert sun. Stupid. If you go out where the stilt tower were, they're just laying on the ground.

President Obama authorized hiring more Border Patrol than Bush would and more illegals have been deported under Obama's watch than ever before. Keep in mind that both Kyl and McCain also refused to add Border Patrol while Napolitano was governor and after Brewer was appointed governor.

All the idiots who think we can just "round em up and deport them" have never been to the area. I lived just west of Tucson for more than 25 years. The Sonora desert is called a "sub tropical desert" because of the thick lush growth there. You could hide a herd of elephants in the area where illegals are crossing.

The president agreed to try adding National Guard but it didn't really make any difference. Be glad he pulled them out because it was just a waste of money.

Also a waste is McCain's night sight helicopters. Local Tucson news does these reports showing green night video of coyotes (the dog kind) trotting along the desert floor and even, very occasionally, people, but so what? Its not like they could then catch them. By the time a location was reached on the ground, the illegals were long gone. Most of the helicopters sit at the Pima Air Museum now - millions of dollars wasted so McCain could get re-elected.

Now they're using helicopters and planes to do the same useless surveillance and they fail for the same reasons.

But, ignore the truth cuz its a lot more important to keep spreading those lies.

Is Obama your daddy?

Wait a minute, so who put the 1,200 National Guard people down there in the first place?

I've read that U.S. Customs and Border Patrol have hired the 1,200 people they needed hired and so now the gap that the NG was filing is over with now.

So, what are we talking about here? 1,200 people are leaving but 1,200 more are basically going to do the same job, right? They're going to sit in watchtowers and look at tv monitors and pretend it's ESPN for immigration, right?

If it's the same difference, than I'm trying to understand the outrage here.

Btw, would folks here say the border sitch is better or worse now than it was 4 years ago?

I'd be interested in knowing how Mexico handles security of their southern borders with Guatemala and Belize (?).

Several excellent points here. It's too bad you don't act like a grown up more often.

If every measure trialed so far is as futile as you suggest, it seems like the only viable solution is to build a high wall along the U.S/Mexico border. It may prove expensive, but it'll be worth it in the long run if every other preventative measure has supposedly failed.

Our government is against its own citizens , otherwise the would of put an end to this shit years ago.
