Nanny State: Fort Worth To Ban The Hiring Of Smokers?...

If you smoke I will fire your ass.
Just accept it and get used to it.
Cry like a baby about it with your phony claims that I am "encroaching" into your life but I am the boss and I pay the salaries.
That is the problem with Americans today. They want to do their own thing and have someone else be responsible for the consequences.

NO CRY BABIES.

I wasn't aware that smoking was a protected right.

I bet you even make your employees wear appropriate clothing, don't you, you fascist nanny-stating bastard?

It's a buyers market for employers and they can fuck with workers all they want.

Google and Apple are being sued by the government for colluding against workers' abilities to equally treat in the employment market with prospective employers.

Good move. Competition depends on good employee rewards and incentives, including the right to change jobs without problems.

Man, what's going on in our Country? Why such a rush to ban everything? Don't we have enough restrictive & oppressive Laws already?

Ever been to a local business and dealt with an employee that smelled like they bathed in cigarette ash? Well lucky for you, cities across the country may start to ban the hiring of smokers.

The city of Fort Worth, Texas could soon become the first major American city to ban the hiring of smokers according to CBSDFW News. As part of Mayor Betsy Price’s goals, she aims to make Forth Worth a healthier city and has encouraged employees to find the best way to cut city costs.

Attendees of a recent Fort Worth city council meeting were briefed on a proposal that would ban the hiring of people who use tobacco.

City Manager Tom Higgins favors the proposal and believes it could help reduce city costs.

“Overall I think there was a strong belief that not only does it provide financial benefits for us and our health insurance, but to work with employees to get in a smoking cessation plan and just not to encourage it by hiring additional people,” he said.

The proposition faces a slippery legal slope.

“What is it going to be next? Is it going to be refusing to hire people who consume alcohol?” said one skeptic.

If the city decides to take action against smokers, it will be at least a month before a vote.

I would sue the pants off of them if I was a smoker trying to get a job. Another example of big brother socialism telling us what we can do. Fire obamaturd to start cleaning this problem up.

If the right refuses to carry health insurance, they should have to prove they can pay the bills related to smoking.

They don't want women's health ins, that the woman pays for, include bc so it seems only fair for the rw's to be forced to pay for their own health care.

We are number one in health care costs but 37th in quality of care. Force smokers to pay for their own health care instead of all of us having to share those costs through higher premiums because one small group skews the average.

They already started doing this, a co worker of mine in Virginia applied for a job as a Dental assistant and the person doing the hiring straight up said they will NOT hire smokers and if you smoke to please leave the room.

Any employer should decide not to hire smokers. Smokers are pooreer workers, sloppier in their habits, and are costly to ensure.

How do you figure that? when I was in the Military and deployed to Kuwait most of were smokers and damn good workers, where do you get this impression smokers are bad workers?

Where does it end? We're not going to hire anyone who eats at a fast food place more that twice a month? If your body fat count is too high? IMHO, I can undersatnd banning smoking while at work but not on ones personal time.

Yeah, Corporations and Government are encroaching more & more into Citizens' private personal lives. It's a very disturbing trend. It should be of great concern to all Americans. It doesn't matter which Polical Party you cheerlead for.

When I was in the Military they were talking about banning smoking on certain bases, don't know if they ever went through with it though.

What should I have higher ins premiums to treat somebody who has indiscriminate sex or does IV drugs and gets AIDS? The same goes for any risky behavior: mountain climbing, sky diving, base jumping, extreme skiing, you name it.

Everybody smoked when I was in and if anybody complained about it, they were to to shut the fuck up.

And smokes were so cheap that the running joke was if you didn't smoke, you were losing money.

Well when I was in from 2000-2007 most people didn't smoke state side, I would be one of the only few outside at the smoke pit, but in the deployed locations everyone was lighting up because smoking was one of the few things they allowed us to do, no drinking and no sex, that fuckin sucked.

No drinking and no sex?

You must have been deployed in one of those Middle East shitholes.

You got my sympathies.

I was deployed to Antarctica where the saying was "There's woman behind every tree."

So no sex but plenty of smoking, drinking and whatever other mind altering substances were around at the time.

It's true. I was denied a job because I smoke.
