Name Me One Socialist Country! Just One!!

Like that has never happened before. Back in the Laissex Faire period it happened a lot.

And...you will notice that because of the government programs the suffering of this down turn is much less than the 1890's or 1930's

We are facing total collapse. Remember the 'former' Soviet Union?

Because a lot of you liberals obviously wouldn't be happy unless the government controlled everything. Some of you literally scream it in almost every post.

So let's see an example of a country that is at least majority socialist, with a high standard of living. One with a history of a few decades of high standard of living, too. Not one that had brief periods.

"..a lot of you liberals obviously wouldn't be happy unless the government controlled everything."-like what, the sanctity of a woman's own body?

what leads you to say such silly things about liberals?

Yes Rav, I am well aware. You certainly aren't arguing that there are some liberals here that are pretty damn socialist in their beliefs though, are you?

I've seen calls for owning the banks, owning energy, owning the automakers. Couple that with taxing the rich to even out the poor, and it doesn't get much more socialist.

and you in your wild imagination think these people are liberals or do you think advocating those things make them liberals?

Why? They're all about the same in terms of freedom. I don't see your point.
I may have misunderstood your intentions when you stated "There will always be just a few of us who truly love freedom above all. It's no wonder that standard of living statistics are biased in favor of socialistic countries."I thought it implied that your measure of the standard of living included "Freedom"

People choose standard of living and safety over freedom. There will always be just a few of us who truly love freedom above all. It's no wonder that standard of living statistics are biased in favor of socialistic countries.

yeah, nothing like celebrating the freedom of being broke, having poor medical and no dental, no home but lots of creditors chasing you down and no job...better than those fukin' idiots who want safety and security. so many Americans today value that freedom over security and safety. yeah right. want to take a national poll?

why was that the choice for you...safety and security vs freedom? can't they all exist in tandem in your world view?

It does for me, but not for most people. Most people just care about making a living. They don't care at what cost.

I've already said what the results of a national poll would be.

Safety, security and freedom do exist in my worldview. They just don't all exist together for most people.

I note that the Great Depression happened after the Federal Reserve was created, I note that the stagflation of the 70's was brought on by heavy inflation and price controls, and I note that both the tech and housing bubbles were part of the boom and bust cycles that the Federal Reserve creates.

And the depression of 1837 thru 1843?

The late 1850's?

The 1870's?

The 1890's?

No fed reserve then

The Standard of Living should never be measured by monetary or economic measures alone, that is correct but I was merely pointing out that the countries in this list have basically all the same freedoms as the US and in some cases more. Maybe this was what you were pointing out, I'm not sure.
the list

2 Norway
3 Australia

5 Ireland
6 Sweden
7 Switzerland
8 Japan
9 Netherlands

Yes, that was what I was saying. That's why I didn't understand why you asked the question.
