NAFTA deal is done between U.S. and Canada...Canada to cede large part of dairy to U.S.

Remember, Trump was against open borders and open trade. And now suddenly he’s embracing it? And look what’s going to happen. Mexican car makers are going to get paid more.
Canada can sell more here. Meaning they can reduce their $8 billion deficit they have with the US.

I was right. This is like the Trump Carrier deal all over again. Look what a disaster that was.

That’s one thing about Trump. Everything he does is a disaster. The man is certainly consistent. Especially when it comes to telling the truth.

U.S., Canada and Mexico just reached a sweeping new NAFTA deal. Here’s what’s in it.

On Sunday night, President Trump got his wish for a significantly revised North American trade deal. After more than a year of intense negotiations, the United States, Canada and Mexico reached an agreement to update the North American Free Trade Agreement, the 1994 pact that governs more than $1.2 trillion worth of trade among the three nations.

The new deal won’t go into effect right away. Most of the key provisions don’t start until 2020 because leaders from the three countries have to sign it and then Congress and the legislatures in Canada and Mexico have to approve it, a process that is expected to take months.

Here’s a rundown of what’s in the “new NAFTA.”

New name: Goodbye NAFTA. The new deal will be known as the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement or “USMCA.” Trump, who had long disdained NAFTA, had suggested he might call it the “USMC,” in honor of the U.S. Marine Corps, but in the end, USMCA won out.

Big changes for cars. The goal of the new deal is to have more cars and truck parts made in North America. Starting in 2020, to qualify for zero tariffs, a car or truck must have 75 percent of its components manufactured in Canada, Mexico or the United States, a substantial boost from the current 62.5 percent requirement.

There’s also a new rule that a significant percentage of the work done on the car must be completed by workers earning at least $16 an hour, or about three times what the typical Mexican autoworker currently makes. Starting in 2020, cars and trucks should have at least 30 percent of the work on the vehicle done by worker earning $16 an hour. That gradually moves up to 40 percent for cars by 2023.

I’m wondering how Canada is going to retain its supply management system (government run farming) if the market opens up to American dairy. This should be interesting.
Just watched an economist say it wasn’t a major overhaul. That it was tweaks. It was NAFTA that was just barely tweaked. But he said the tweak was a tiny steroid tweak. Because of the open borders.

It's great having a President who is looking out for the best interests of Americans again.
Americans suffered 8 years under Barry the Magnificent.

What open borders?

Entry into Canada: Canadian law requires that all persons entering Canada carry both proof of citizenship and proof of identity. A valid U.S. passport, passport card, or NEXUS card satisfies these requirements for U.S. citizens. Children under 16 need only present proof of U.S. citizenship.Aug 28, 2017

Ah yes, theories. We have over 10,000 refugees who crossed over into Canada illegally from America. Of course, many of those were in the U.S illegally because no self respecting, well informed American citizen would be stupid enough to move to Canada, even illegally...

My opinion on this deal after seeing the details, Trump got more than expected in agricultural from dairy to eggs, poultry etc. He didn't get enough on auto, in fact, Canada could possibly gain auto jobs with this.

You received some big gains in cross border duty-free from $20 to $150. That's great for me as I can get cheaper stuff from America now without duties. You did protect your Intellectual Property, and at least to some degree you still maintain at least some Right to apply tariffs.

BIG WIN FOR TRUMP AND AMERICA!!! TARIFFS WORK UNDER TRUMP'S KNOWLEDGE!!!!

BREAKING - Top US Source says "deal is done" re #NAFTA. Joint statement from @USTradeRep & Canada's Freeland expected soon.

I'm told #NAFTA deal was reached around 9:30pm tonight. Canada giving a larger % of its dairy market to US products in exchange for cultural protection & some form of dispute resolution process (formerly Ch 19).

3.5% of their dairy market is a “large portion”??

I can’t see this creating lots of jobs in dairy...

almost none at all, dairy is a highly automated industry.

The Lefties will whine and cry that it's unfair and didn't do anything. What else can you expect? They will never, ever accept that the president has kept yet another campaign promise.

They probably left red states. Who wants to live in a sh!thole? Red state economies suffering from 150 years of terrible conservative economic policies. Not to mention what they do to clean air and clean water.
They get sick from those conservative policies and the conservatives want you to die quickly because conservatives don’t want people to have healthcare.
