There is no crisis in Gaza! The opposite is true. They groceries filled with food, they have well-stocked medical supplies and fuel!

The crisis is a figment of the antisemites like P F's imagination.

Where did the vast vast majority of this aid come from - ISRAEL!!!

Photo Evidence of ‘Myth of Siege of Gaza’ - A7 Exclusive Features - Israel News - Israel National News
The” myth of the siege of Gaza” has been exploded in a research report that quotes Arab sources that say “Gaza markets are saturated with goods.” The Washington Post reported last week that Gaza “pharmacies look as well-supplied as a typical Rite Aid.”

Reserve IDF officer Lt. Col. Jonathan HaLevi, a researcher for the Institute for Contemporary Affairs, wrote that Israel’s continuing supervised flow of humanitarian aide to Gaza also has helped the Gaza economy rebound.

‘Gaza is not cut off from the outside world,” he wrote, and added that the large supply of goods and merchandise, including fuel oil, that enters Gaza through smuggling tunnels and pipelines from Egypt has actually helped bring down the cost of gasoline and diesel fuel to half the price in Israel.

Claims by United Nations officials, reported without investigation by most mainstream media, have falsely promoted the image of a humanitarian crisis and a scarcity of foods and merchandise in Gaza, implying that Gaza Arabs share the plague of famine as in India and other countries.

HaLevi’s reported stated, “Recently, Rep. Ron Paul told Don Imus on the Fox Business Channel that Israel was "preventing food and medicine from going into Gaza. He said there are 'people that are starving' and closed with a vile suggestion that the situation of the Gazans was 'almost like in concentration camps.'"

However, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton admitted to a Congressional committee last April, “The [Gaza] crossings are no longer completely closed…. A lot of what has been said was not permitted to cross is just not accurate.”

Janine Zacharia of the Washington Post reported last week, "If you walk down Gaza City's main thoroughfare -Salah al-Din Street - grocery stores are stocked wall-too-wall with everything from fresh Israeli yogurts and hummus to Cocoa Puffs smuggled in from Egypt.” Smuggled goods are cheaper than the regular price.

The Bethlehem-based Ma'an news agency stated last February, "Gaza markets are saturated with goods." Beaches are filled with vacationers as well (photot below).

The de facto Hamas government in Gaza also has received $5 billion in cold cash since it took over control of the area from the rival Fatah faction in a bloody militia war three years ago this month. Hamas also receives millions of dollars in direct aid from Arab countries as well from the United Nations and European Union, which until last November paid for the diesel fuel to run the Gaza power plant.

The French newspaper LeMonde last October quoted Bassem Khoury, minister of national economy for the Palestinian Authority, that Hamas has profited so much from the smuggling tunnel system and outside aid that it “doesn't know what to do with its money. Taxpayers in Europe should know that as a result of this system their money ends up in Hamas' pocket."

HaLevi pointed out that the tunnel system not only supplies Hamas with more weapons it but also “serves such criminal purposes as drug running and trafficking in young women.” The Kuwaiti newspaper Awan last December reported on the phenomenon of "importing" minor girls from Egypt and selling them into prostitution in Gaza, supposedly for purposes of marriage or domestic work.

He said Hamas exploits the smuggling tunnels for “sending fighters for training in Iran and Syria, and for the import of advanced weapons systems, [including] antiaircraft and anti-tank missiles), explosives, and ammunition."

HaLevi maintained, “The position of the human rights organizations, which paint an exaggerated picture of the effects of the siege, is marred by a double standard. On the one hand, they argue vehemently that Israel is still an occupying power and must therefore see to the "security and welfare of the residents of Gaza"; yet on the other hand, the welfare and security of Gaza's residents have been severely harmed by the Hamas regime, with its gradual imposition of Islamic law while violently suppressing the opposition.

“According to their logic, Israel is obligated to help an enemy entity that is attacking it. If this were true, the United States would have a duty to extend assistance to villages in Afghanistan controlled by the Taliban fighters who are attacking coalition forces.”

Don't bother, the sympathizers will simply denounce this as Israeli propaganda, just like they always do.

More shameless hasbara. The quotes they pulled from the Washington Post article to try to add credibility to their claims are taken completely out of context.

But you wouldn't know that unless you actually read the Post article, which of course Arutz Sheva doesn't want you to do - so they don't even link it.

This is what the Post actually said:

Once an exporter of fruits and other goods, Gaza has been turned into a mini-welfare state with a broken economy where food and daily goods are plentiful, but where 80 percent of the population depends on charity. Hospitals, schools, electricity systems and sewage treatment facilities are all in deep disrepair.

Yet if you walk down Gaza City's main thoroughfare -- Salah al-Din Street -- grocery stores are stocked wall-to-wall with everything from fresh Israeli yogurts and hummus to Cocoa Puffs smuggled in from Egypt. Pharmacies look as well-supplied as a typical Rite Aid in the United States.

"When Western people come, they have this certain image of Gaza," said Omar Shaban, an economist who heads Pal-Think for Strategic Studies in Gaza. "We have microwaves in our homes, not only me, everybody. If you go to a refugee camp, the house is bad, but the people and the equipment are very modern. The problem is the public infrastructure."

...

The prohibition on concrete, which Israel says is necessary because Hamas can use it to build bunkers, has forced Palestinians to harvest cement and wire from buildings Israel bombed last year. If the siege were lifted tomorrow all six crossings would need to operate 24 hours a day for three years to fill Gaza's current need of 2 million tons of concrete, Shaban said. The infrastructure woes stretch beyond construction: Gaza suffers rolling blackouts and the sewage treatment facility needs repair.

...

Some of the restrictions on consumer goods are hard to explain -- like a ban on nutmeg or coriander. Others seem designed to create as much pressure as possible.

"Margarine is permitted in small packages for household consumption, but it is banned in large buckets because it's a factory input that would allow people to have jobs and engage in economic work," said Sari Bashi, executive director of Gisha, a not-for-profit organization whose goal is to protect freedom of movement of Palestinians. "The closure is explicitly designed to cripple Gaza's economy."

During a typical week in May, Israel allowed in 637 truckloads ferrying 14,069 tons of food, medicine and other supplies.

Frustrated at its inability to convince critics that there is no crisis in Gaza and no need for emergency aid, Israel tried sarcasm late last month as the flotilla went to sea.

"The Government Press Office is pleased to bring to your attention the attached menu and information for the Roots Club and Restaurant in Gaza. We have been told the beef stroganoff and cream of spinach soup are highly recommended," read a recent press release, with the elaborate menu attached.

Gazans readily admit they are not going hungry. But that, they say, is the wrong benchmark for assessing their quality of life. While Gaza has long been poor, the economy has completely crumbled over the past three years.

Palestinians admit Gaza not starving, Hamas steals aid

In the wake of the Gaza flotilla incident, anti-Israel activists around the world have worked to boost their message that the Gaza Strip is the most destitute place on earth, where famine and plague rule.

But remarks by Palestinians living in Gaza to international media outlets covering the aid flotilla story paint a very different picture.

"There is no starvation in Gaza. No one has died of hunger," Khalil Hamada, a senior official at Gaza's Ministry of Justice, told London's Daily Telegraph. Sticking to the Hamas party line, he then went on to criticize Israel's embargo as "inhumane" and "brutal."

Since much of the international media ignores Palestinians when they admit Israel isn't so bad, Israel itself tried to counter the misinformation regarding the Gaza embargo by publishing figures showing how much aid enters the territory.

According to figures released by Israel's Foreign Ministry, in the first quarter of 2010 (January-March), 94,500 tons of supplies passed through Israel's border crossings with Gaza. That aid included 40,000 tons of wheat (equal to 53 million loaves of bread), 2,760 tones of rice (or 69 million servings), 1,987 tons of clothes (the equivalent of 3.6 million pairs of jeans), and 553 tons of milk powder and baby food.

And it's not just essential goods Israel provides. During the Muslim holy month of Ramadan late last year, Israel brought 11,000 head of cattle into Gaza, enough for 8.8 million meals of beef.

The problem is that most of these goods never reach average average Gazans. It is a long-time policy of the Palestinian and wider Arab leadership to maintain a victim or "refugee" status among average Palestinians.

Gaza resident Zaed Khadar acknowledged as much in an interview with Germany's Der Spiegel:

"People who are not in with Hamas don't see any of the relief goods or the gifts of money. Hamas supporters get prefabricated housing, furnishings and paid work. We get nothing."

Palestinians admit Gaza not starving, Hamas steals aid

More evidence Gaza is not starving

The international community is sticking to the line that the Gaza Strip is a land of destitution where famine grips nearly every family. Comparisons with World War II concentration camps are popular.

But one of the results of the recent failed "humanitarian aid" flotilla to Gaza is that more and more journalists and researches are looking into the Gaza situation and finding it doesn't really reflect what is being written about it.

We already wrote last month about how National Post correspondent Tom Gross discovered gourmet restaurants and Olympic-sized swimming pools in Gaza. Lt. Col. (ret.) Jonathan D. Halevi of the Institute for Contemporary Affairs has compiled a comprehensive report on the situation in Gaza including several quotes from the mainstream and Arab press that acknowledge Gaza is not starving, and is no worse off than anywhere else in the Middle East.

In a June 3 report, Janine Zacharia of the Washington Post wrote, "If you walk down Gaza City's main thoroughfare - Salah al-Din Street - grocery stores are stocked wall-too-wall with everything from fresh Israeli yogurts and hummus to Cocoa Puffs smuggled in from Egypt. Pharmacies look as well-supplied as a typical Rite Aid in the United States."

Earlier in the year, the Palestinian Bethlehem-based news agency Ma'an reported that "Gaza markets are saturated with goods."

To drive home the point, Halevi included a list provided by Israel's Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territoris of what Israel sent into Gaza in 2009 (in addition to what was smuggled in or brought in by private business concerns):

■Health: 4,883 tons of medical equipment and medicines entered Gaza that year in coordination with the Palestinian Authority and international agencies;

■Electricity: Israel continued to supply electricity to Gaza from its power plant in Ashkelon. In addition, 41 truckloads of equipment were transferred for the maintenance of the electrical system in Gaza. Between April and October 2009, Siemens carried out maintenance work on the power system in Gaza, to which more than 100 million liters of diesel fuel were delivered for its operation.

■Communications: 45 truckloads of communication equipment were sent to Gaza at the request of the Palestinian Authority.

■Water and sewage: 95 truckloads of equipment for water and sewage systems, as well as 3,720 tons of chloride for water purification, were transferred during 2009.

■The private sector: 77 percent of the contents of trucks sent into Gaza in 2009 were for the private sector. 257 Palestinian businessmen exited Gaza to Israel, the West Bank, and abroad. 10,871 head of cattle were transferred to Gaza, mainly for the Ramadan and Eid al-Adha holidays. In preparation for winter, 3,607 tons of glass for windows was transferred to Gaza.

■Money: Over NIS 1.1 billion (approximately $300 million) was transferred to Gaza in 2009 to fund salaries and the activities of international organizations. In addition, NIS 40 million (approximately $10 million) in worn banknotes were replaced.

■Humanitarian aid: 141,390 tons of humanitarian aid were transferred by the international community through Israel, including 115,043 tons of food and 2,990 tons of medicines and medical equipment.

■UNRWA: 3,282,000 liters of fuel and diesel were transferred for use by UNRWA. In addition, special equipment for summer camps, including swimming pools, ice cream machines, musical instruments, and sports equipment were transferred to UNRWA.

■Agricultural export: The export of flowers and strawberries was approved as part of a joint project with the government of the Netherlands. Since the beginning of the project, more than 7 million flowers and 54 tons of strawberries were exported.

Israel does indeed maintain a firm blockade of the Gaza Strip in order to deny its Hamas rulers goods that could be used in the manufacture of weapons of war. But Israel is not restricting the entry of other goods, and is in fact facilitating the transfer of massive amounts of humanitarian aid every day - goods that the residents of Gaza are receiving for free, that is if Hamas would stop stealing them.

Halevi also responded to claims that even if Israel's blockade is not causing starvation, it has essentially created a well-stocked prison for 1.5 million Palestinians. Halevi noted that the border crossings of Gaza are not nor have they ever been closed to either the exit or entry of local Palestinians. Of course, since foreign nations sit on the other side of those crossings, coordination with their authorities is required, but that is not different than the citizen of any other nation requiring a visa to visit a neighboring state.

Over the past five years, Israel and Egypt have approved 98 percent of permit requests to cross the Gaza border. In 2009, 10,544 Palestinians left Gaza for medical treatment in Israel, 147 students went abroad for studies, 374 Christians left Gaza to celebrate Christmas in Israel and Bethlehem, and Gaza-based members of the Palestinian soccer team regularly exited the coastal strip to participate in matches with foreign teams. The very few rejections are the only cases that receive media coverage, however.

Starving Gaza? 'Don't Believe The Hype'.
I was sent one of those email circulars this week mocking the media’s portrayal of Gaza.

This one was in French. Under the title ‘Gaza Affame’ or ‘Starving Gaza’ and alongside captions like ‘Gaza, une prison a ciel ouvert!’ (Gaza, an open air prison!), were a series of pictures showing smiling Gazans living the good life.

The shops are full, market stalls groan under the weight of sweets, fruit, herbs and spices. Grinning children play in the sea, girls make sandcastles.

They’re not starving in Gaza, seemed the message. Look, they’re even smiling.
Then there were three photos of starving babies in India, Africa and Latin America. ‘Now that’s what I call real suffering’, seems the gist.

It is a familiar propaganda ruse of course. Set up a false claim and skewer it.

Noone says the Gazans are starving. Nor that they are incapable of smiling or trying to escape from their hardship with the odd trip to the beach.

But this is what the UN says is happening in Gaza and you can judge for yourself whether it constitutes a humanitarian crisis.

Eighty percent of Gazans suffer the indignity of having to queue for food aid, ‘not because they want to,’ as UNRWA Gaza chief John Ging puts it but because ‘their economy has been completely destroyed’.

The UN needs to build a hundred schools and has not been able to for four years, because Israel will not allow cement in, because of security concerns.

Ninety percent of school buildings are used in shifts. One group of students use them in the morning, another in the afternoon.

So pupils only get half the classroom time they need and forty thousand fail basic Arabic and maths every year. Teachers have not been able to take holidays for three years.

90 percent of water does not meet WHO drinking standards.

Millions of cubic litres of untreated sewage is pumped into the sea every day because Israel will not allow in the cement to build and repair treatment plants (surely a crisis for Gaza’s neighbours too).

And there is what we found on a tour of two Gazan hospitals today. In Rantissi Children’s hospital, the head of the diagnostics laboratory told me today he cannot perform a number of tests for leukaemia and blood disorders because of a lack of chemical and instruments all held up in Israel.

Upstairs in the intensive care unit, doctors say at least one child died this week because two mechanical ventilators are broken because Israel will not allow in spare parts to fix them.

The head of oncology says he has an urgent need for Lomustine, an essential cancer drug. The hospital’s CT scanner has been out of action for weeks because of a lack of spare parts.

In Shifa Hospital’s intensive care unit blood diagnostics machines cannot be used because of a lack of reagents and spare parts.

Israel announced this week it will ease its blockade to allow in more snack foods. Crisps, biscuits and Coca-Cola. But cement and spare parts for electric appliances will remain severely restricted.

Israeli Government spokesman Mark Regev told Sky News he will investigate the drugs shortages

‘There are no restrictions whatsoever supplying medicines to the people of Gaza. If there are shortages of particular items I want to hear about them and my government will act to facilitate the transfer of medicines into Gaza.’

The only thing they lack is the ability to ship in arms and munitions and building material to make more bunkers.

That is EXACTLY the point, you liars claim they are deprived of food, medicine and other goods and you repeat it over and over.

It is infact one of the claims of the supposed freedom flotilla. All it is is a bunch of LIES.

From the beginning, the Flotilla organizers have said publicly that their purpose is to break the blockade, which has completely destroyed the economy and infrastructure of Gaza.

The ships were not bringing food (except for a few chocolates and such) - they were loaded with primarily building supplies and medical equipment.

Gaza's water, electricity and sewage facilities have been extensively damaged by Israeli bombing. The blockade prevents them from being rebuilt. It prevents people from being able to rebuild their homes and their hospitals. It prevents people from running their businesses; to export their agricultural products (a major part of Gaza's industry.) It leaves them utterly dependent on international aid for food.

The blockade of Gaza has failed on every single one of the Israeli government's stated objectives. It has not forced Hamas from power. It has not turned Gazans against Hamas. It has not stopped rockets into Israel. And it has not forced the release of Gilad Shalit.

Israel's blockade has accomplished nothing other than to devastate the lives of 1.5 million people, and cause world opinion of Israel to plummet and increase its international isolation. And it shot itself in the foot again with the Flotilla raid.

I think a lot of Americans do not follow Israeli news very much, or they would see that there is a huge internal debate among Israelis themselves over this very subject. A significant number of Israelis from various sectors of society - military, political, academic, journalism - are loudly urging their government to abandon the failed policies that actually harm Israel's interests.

That is what the Flotilla organizers say. It is not what the liars in Israel says that the organizers say.

It most assuredly is the point, the claim is made by one and all that the embargo is starving the Gazans, That is false. The claim is made that medical care is denied the Gazans, that is false. The claim is made that the Gazans lack fuel to run their generators, that is false.

The only thing they lack is the ability to ship in arms and munitions and building material to make more bunkers.

Do you ever post anything that is not straight out of Israel's BS book?

From UK;

*The activist/producer had allowed abundant footage of street markets brimming with produce and shops full of canned goods, cigarettes, and sweets. At one point the activist/film producer asked a Gazan whether he had enough food. He answered with something to the effect of “We have food, but we object to the closures on political grounds

From Sky news:

*The shops are full, market stalls groan under the weight of sweets, fruit, herbs and spices. Grinning children play in the sea, girls make sandcastles.

Fatah's Azzam Al-Ahmad: Gaza Doesn't Need Food, Humanitarian Supplies

*I confidently say that Gaza does not need humanitarian or food supplies because the PA is securing all of this. The PA sends 200 trucks into Gaza, not through Rafah but through other crossings,” he told the Genrman News Agency. “These trucks are always full of food supplies, medicaments, and fuel,” he added.
