I have come to the belief that the country that I grew up in, believed in, bled for and pray for has been taken over by something far worse that a foreign enemy. Apathy in our nation is killing us as a free society.
We shake our heads and laugh at the corruption in our leaders. Late night comedians make jokes about it and we laugh when what we should be doing is running the thieves and liars out on a rail. Our nation is being taken over without a fight .
Our founding fathers would hardly recognize the travesty that our nations leaders have made of the Constitution. We as a nation have surrendered our rights with out a whimper.
I, for one, am saddened by what I have seen happen to my country in the last 25 years.
Where does it say that the government is supposed to take care of me cradle to grave?
A very wise man once said, " I would rather die on my feet that live on my knees."
That's where I ,and some others that believe in the Bill of Rights and the Constitution, are at right now.
Throw the liars and thieves out , make them face justice,or lose this nation to the Socialists. (Remember them ? They used to be called the communists)

The fact of the matter is: Only a Constitutional convention mandated by 2/3’s of the states will create the "possibility" for real change regarding the behavior of our elected representatives.

It's going to happen (again) sooner or later. Sooner would be better, IMO.

What amendments do you hope will be proposed there? or are you hoping for a whole new constitution? what would you have in it?

Also like to add ... and what would it change?

Throwing the liars and thieves out only helps if we have someone honest and trustworthy to replace them with. Sadly we don't. You want to know why?

Its because people dont participate in elections unless it's a Presidential race. I was at the primaries Tuesday. Almost no one showed up. This was where we vote for all the local leaders. The people who directly control our purse strings and who we should all know since they are our neighbors. They are also the people that use these positions to jump off into future politics. But the people dont get involved in deciding local elections and they are supprised when crappy people are elected into office down the line?

Its also because we dont have lots of honest and trustworthy people left in our nation.

While this is Memorial Day weekend, I want to thank all vets for their service. Yeah, I know, we have Veteran's Day for that, but any day is good for thanking those that serve or served. The dead? They gave their tomorrows for our today's. Have you said, 'Thank you!'?

Disregarding the Constutution is an American tradition. See the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798, Lincoln's refusal to recognize and accept the South's right to secede, the decades of state-backed discrimination against blacks even after the passage of the 13th-15th amendments, the Sedition Act of 1918, FDR's executive power-grab, the herding of Japanese-Americans into concentration camps, McCarthyism and Red Scare politics, etc, etc, etc.

I used to share your opinion, but examining the multitude of mistakes we've made in our history regarding constitutionality has caused me to wonder if following the Constitution is even a realistic goal at this point.

Sadly, to get local voter involvement, I think they'd have to have the elections, debates, or whatever online so the lazy asses wouldn't have to leave the house.

No, just air it in place of American Idol, trust me though, the networks would go out of business. What's sad is that they aren't lazy, they just don't want to actually think.

Totally agree that the government should be supposed to take care of people from cradle to grave, although I believe the socialist measures you are denouncing didn't start with Obama, but way back in the early 20th century

I would like to see us return to the constitution we already have, no need for a new one.

They can't get sponsors unless it's an appeal to the younger crowds. The future of network TV doesn't look good with the only attraction left being reality shows which appeal to the numbed-down. They're even screwing up successes. Look what ABC did to "Lost" this season. Good gawd, even someone like me who has watched that since Day One couldn't follow what the hell they were doing with the story line. So now next year is the final season. Good show, as they say. Thanks for blowing it.

I think people critical of today's polarized politics need to be reminded how polarized the framers of the Constitution were before they reached consensus. The only difference I see is that today we tend to play the blame game instead of any attempt at compromising on the important issues. We'll never get anywhere as long as that continues on a national basis.

I can't pinpoint when the party hatred started. Was it Bush 41's loss to an obscure Democrat following Reagan's success? Was it Clinton's womanizing which galvanized the far right against him? Was it retaliation against Bush 43 because of the demonizing of Clinton? And now that Obama has won, is the hatred by the right because of the hatred of George W. Bush? I've had enough of tit-for-tat politicking. I don't believe any of those presidents intended to ruin the country by their conservatism or liberalism, respectively. But it seems to me that national elections are now based more on personal complaints and prejudices, rather than a clear study of the issues.

You need to step further back in time time sweetheart, think Nixon.

Why do people assume things like this have to have started in their lifetime?

What about the party hatred when a successful governor of California had a landslide victory against one of the worst Presidents of the century?
