My father has been in the ER for two days and nights waiting for a hospital bed

When my mother-in-Law was suffering from infections she would occasionally wait for 2 or 3 days for a room.
Nassau County hospitals were swamped with illegals.
Imagine what border state hospitals are dealing with. All those sick people pouring over the border, and you can bet your bottom dollar every one of them needs some level of medical attention. I have to believe Liberals would quickly see the light if their Father was denied care because the hospital was at 100% capacity and 20% was taken up by illegal immigrants. It has nothing to do with lack of compassion. It has everything to do with America's limited resources and who gets priority for those resources.
Liberals are irrational masochists.
It would seem so to your kind.

The ACA was meant for Americans, not the whole world.

Republicans aren't trying to end healthcare for just minorities. But also poor whites. Or as we like to call them, "Trump Supporters".

When Hospitals Close in Appalachia, the Costs Are Far-reaching

Health insurance that sucks, which will end up bankrupting them if they ever have to use it.

Actually, for Republicans, it was meant for no body.

Republicans are against healthcare.

That's why they lost in the midterms.

Trump can't pretend to get healthcare for the GOP base this time around.

Not true. In the time between retirement and Medicare, I had Obamacare.

I got to keep my doctor.

I when to the doctor whenever I needed to.

Every GOP lie was exactly that...............a lie.

Personal experience.......thank God for Obamacare.

and when are we going to see seniors marching in the streets demanding that Medicare be privatized and they can get back to having the almighty profit motive make decisions about their health services???

For some reason, seniors keep on overwhelmingly loving their Medicare -- im thinking they most have become communist socialist traitors once they became AARP members

How many supplement plans do they need to cover everything?

If you are going to discuss Medicare maybe you should also add the government does not cover everything and seniors carry supplement plans at an extra charge or did you not know this?

If Medicare doesn't pay supplements don't either.

I'm not sure you're comprehending the concept of "Medicare supplements".

Oh, I understand Medicare supplements since I've worked with them for 20 plus years, Medicare has to pay and then only if Medicare pays does the supplement pay. Maybe you weren't talking to me some other's post since.

I’m just wondering what these proponents of single payer plan to do about the overcrowding of hospitals their system would bring.
Maybe you should ask why are capitalist based for profit hospitals overcrowded...

So giving everyone medical coverage is going to decrease the demand?

You’re right, the system socks now. Hospitals are understaffed and overwhelmed, but single payer is only going to make the problem worse.

Although I am not for single payer I can see over time decreasing er visits because of the wait time. More urgent cares would spring up.

Taking the profit motive out of providing health insurance to people doesn't mean students will stop studying life sciences -- can you show me anywhere among the other developed countries in the world where people have just stopped learning about organic chemistry??

Why do you feel it is necessary for private insurance companies to make billions for their shareholders at the expense of the consumers is the only way we can insure kids will grow up to want to study biology or chemistry?

While there will certainly be some who continue to go into the medical field, their numbers will be vastly reduced. We have witnessed this in the UK where the NHS has removed the profit motive, so nursing and doctors positions go unfilled. It takes a tremendous amount of effort to become a doctor, and if the government will pay you the same amount for that work as your local toll booth operator, why bother?

Why would they do that, with so little profit in it?

He’s in Hackensack hospital in New Jersey. Was suffering from nausea and wasn’t able to eat for a few days so we took him to the hospital. Now my question is that if we implement a single payer system doesn’t conventional wisdom tell us our hospitals will be even more overcrowded and of even less quality than they are now?
That depends on implementation but since most of the plans are based on medicare, not much will change in hospitals as far as quality and availability because the government provides most of the revenue for hospitals and they effective set the cost of procedures now. State and federal regulation set standards of quality.

First, wishing you dad a speedy recovery.

Second, it's a good question. To my thinking hospitals would be paid set rates and I would suspect this would not be an incentive to providing improved care in order to free up beds for others. Also, private insurance would still be available and I would think those people would see a priority to gain access to a hospital, or the hospital would determine that becoming a private hospital would be a more prosperous endeavor.
That's a reasonable conclusion except the facts don't support that conclusion. First, most of the revenue for general hospitals comes from the government now and reimbursement rates for all procedures for Medicare, Medicaid, and VA are set by the government. Second, insurance companies negotiate rates but those rates are heavily influence government rates. Insurance company reimbursement rates are typical only a few percentage points different from government rates. So what does is it gain a hospital by going for profit. They will still be depend on reimbursement rates that they can't control.

Over 90% of hospitals today do not compete for customers and have little control over reimbursement rates. We have already destroyed the free market in regard to hospitals so substituting Medicare for insurance companies would have little effect on the cost or quality of service.

People keep arguing for a free market solution. Well, that train left the station many years ago and it's not about to return.

Hope your dad is okay dude....
I took my uncle to his cardiologist on Monday...while I was waiting a women walked in and said she had eye trauma and her doctor told her to see a heart doctor immediately because her eye could have been a development of a serious heart issue....they told her she would have to wait for 5 weeks or drive 6 hours to LA....she left crying probably wondering how she was going to drive that far with one eye.....if I were king of the US...I would have Pelosi and Obama drawn and quartered on national TV....and then I would strip congress and the senate of their government health care coverage and put them on Obamacare....these careless people disgust me....
Not knowing the details, I'm going to guess that she isn't getting to see a local doctor in a timely manner because her insurance company's network limits her choices locally. By contrast, 91% of all doctors in the country accept Medicare. That breaks down to 87% of family doctors and 99% of all specialist.

My daughter had see a neurosurgeon and her HMO insurance gave her 3 choices within an 100 mile radius 2 were booked up for 5 months. The over one offered her an appointment with their PA with a 3 month wait. I'll bet there are at least 25 neurosurgeons in that area and probably all of them accept Medicare.

Yeah I didn't have all of the details...but I've been hearing stories of super long wait times for appointments...

Seems like here in California ER is a quick trip for my wife and me. No matter the problem we are seen rather promptly. Her with her problems and me with mine get seen in about 20 minutes.
I hate to say it but an ER is often the best place to go to get a fast diagnosis, relief from symptoms, and a prescribed treatment, usually within hours. Go to your family doctor and you have to wait for tests and results which can take days or weeks. And if you need specialized treatment then you're off to see a specialist who will probably order more tests. You will probably have a diagnosis within a month or the problem resolves itself, or you're no longer be with us.

My son is currently living in China. He dislocated a rib doing jujitsu. He was shocked by the way their system works. Hospitals (they don't really have doctor's offices) don't accept appointments. The way it works is you show up, early if you're smart, and buy a "ticket" to see a doctor. Then you wait. The thing is, so many people are waiting to see a doctor that getting these tickets is very competitive. To top it off, scalpers show up early and buy up all the tickets - then they sell them to people waiting. The system is fucked up in many other ways. I could go on if anyone is interested.

Have you ever been to the V.A.?

If not spend a day or even week at the V.A. and discover the wait times.

Also have you ever been in the Military?

Hurry up and wait is what you do...
Yes, my aunt has worked for the VA for 35 years in administration....

I am going to ask again.....why do vets always opposed privatizing the VA?

Its a simple question.
Oh that’s an easy one. I thought it was obvious. When you prioritize something, you make it for profit. And it’s cheaper to just let them die. That’s what many healthcare companies want to do now. The Democrats stopped them with Obamacare.

You mean Romneycare?
Heard that was popular in Mass.

I heard that Kentucky Connect and Tenn care is popular in Kentucky and Tennessee...as long as you dont let them know its Obamacare.

How can the ACA be Obamacare when it was originally Romneycare?

Stupid is as stupid does.

As I said, long waits for treatment are usually due to limits put on the patient by their insurance company. That's not a problem with Medicare because almost all doctors take Medicare.

The only thing consistent about healthcare in China is the importance of staying well. If you get sick, say your prayers and go to a hospital that offers VIP cards.
