MY company's take on Obamacare...

Thanks, House!

But based on this snippet:

it sounds like they have been getting a tax break since 2003?

So I guess they were. Andthey made business decisions based on that. Afterall, they were offering a pescription service to their personnel.

How would you like it if you made a fianncial decision based on what you knew, and then someone decided to change the rules on you during recession?

But if I took your post properly, your attitude is "hey, they were offered a tax break for doing the right thing for 7 years, and now that they are struggling financially, we are taking that tax break away AND making it law that they spend even MORE MONEY doing the right thing...and tough noggies on them if it creaetes serious fiancnail hardhsip for them"

And lets see what happens when they are forced to lay off. "Those evil greedy CAT owners. They take an itty bitty financial hit and they make the employees suffer"

Not saying you will say that Mr. Yank. Just saying that has been the rhetoric as of late.

Thank you for puting so many words in my mouth their Jarhead....and now if you are done with your drama queen impression?

I clearly stated "If I took you post properly" nd I also added in "not saying you will say that Mr. Yank".
Did I not cover myself properly with those? I bolded them just now for you to see.

Sorry. No harm meant. I really tried to make myself clear that I was NOT assuming anything you may think or say.

I will be more careful next time. (not being sarcastic. I like your posts).

As for the drama queen impression. How am I doing?

The reason why CAT (and I imgine others) are taking the 100 million hit:

Caterpillar To Take $100 Million 1Q Charge Related To Health Bill

They are required to do so...

Thanks, House!

But based on this snippet:

Caterpillar, the world's largest construction equipment manufacturer by sales, warned last week that provisions in the legislation would subject the company to federal income taxes on the federal subsidies it receives for providing prescription drug benefits for its retirees and their spouses. Since 2003, the company has received tax-free reimbursements toward its drug-benefit expenses.

it sounds like they have been getting a tax break since 2003?

They've been saving us money by not dumping their retirees into a Medicare prescription plan... How is that a bad thing?

Lots of people and companies get tax breaks... You get one for every kid you have and if you buy a new Algore Approved refridgerator...

How does that NOT smack of corporate welfare/socialism to such a black and white thinker such as yourself (or to be fair, such as I preceive you to be?)

Maybe they just have shitty accountants. Hey maybe VaWank is their CFO!!!

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is America. What I do on my property behind closed doors is no one elses business, and you do not have the right to judge me based on what I may ofr may not have done.

Besides, it was only a phase.

Not that I did anything unusual. I did not.

And what is so unusual about a little lipstcik and fishnet stockings?

Not that I had anything to do with them. Not sure how they got in my underwear drawer.

Youre making that up about me Mr. Yank.

Since you don't post what company you work for it makes it rather difficult to respond. And just because they don't mention their accounting issues in an email to employees do you think they don't have any?

I didn't think my company woudl appreciate me posting internal documents with their name included. Suffice it to say that I work for a global conglomerate.

Kramerica Industries?

Essentially, the whiners are complaining about losing the a tax break the Republicans gave them. It's real money but most of us would say they didn't deserve it. Maybe your employer isn't a whiner and isn't complaining about not getting something he didn't deserve.

Question:
1. I can understand if a company receives federal money such as a bailout, then they should be held publicly accountable for that money under federal standards. If they received taxmoney (in addition to what they earned or lost on their own) they can't complain about having to pay taxes on this or follow federal requirements on paying it back.
2. However, if companies or individuals EARN their money themselves, and then agree to pay a certain tax rate to federal government, why shouldn't they be able to deduct money spent on public welfare such as health services? As long as it is not a "double deduction."

In general, it sounds backwards to me, if you are assuming that if some entity earns money then the taxes are some kind of entitlement to the public.

Instead of trying to pay for health care by charging or taxing people more than they already pay, why not use govt resources to go after criminal corruption, abuses and waste that have cost taxpayers billions of dollars that could be paid back instead. Money we already are being charged and have paid or in debt for.

If the funds aren't there yet, why not use the federal reserve system to issue reparations notes against past debts and damages owed to taxpayers, microlend that money to boost economic development and rebuilding of affected communities, schools and businesses, and hold the wrongdoers accountable for paying back their share of the debt, with interest if criminal issues are involved of obstructing justice to try to delay payment of restitution.

Why assume that people who make more money should pay more.
What if they are not using the services and are not causing the waste or problems.
Why not go after the companies or individuals who did cost the taxpayers' money, and use that to pay for restitution and correctional programs.

Why punish productive behavior by charging more; why not punish costly corrupt behavior.

Good link. The most important sentence in it is of course this one:

Since 2003, the company has received tax-free reimbursements toward its drug-benefit expenses.

Can you say, double dipping?

The supposed "added taxes" are simply the taxpayers recouping the losses that were incurred by the company in question. In other words, the company was taking undeserved moneys from you and I, the taxpayers, and now they have to pay it back.

Dang it would seem VaYank already made the point contained in my last post.

Kudos, Yank, and pardon me for being repetitive folks.

That was simply my take on these "tax breaks" for corporations doing what they should be doing in the first place. I find it very hard to believe no one on the right disagrees with me?
