My cat Mimi just died

Tonight. In the vet's office. I had taken her in to get her a pain patch. She had CRF and CHF. She was 16. I had her all her life from the time she was a kitten. We buried her in the yard.

My heart is heavy. I miss her.

Condolences. It hurts to lose a beloved pet.

on occassion i still see saddam who kitty.....running around a corner....brushing passed me...its been over 5 years....he still comes around....

Sky,

You have my deepest sympathies. I know how hard it is to lose a loved one in this manner, and it is always too soon. Consider at least they're out of pain, and if you believe in such things, will be waiting for you when you finally catch up.

I am very sorry, I just lost my cat Fred.

It was very very rough. I couldn't stop crying the day that it happened. They are part of our family.

My wife and I still talk about poor Fred each night. He was the most wonderful kitty. He just wanted lovin' all the time.

He would come to us as and we would scratch his back, and he did his "happy kitty dance".

Fred had an auto immune disease or cancer. He couldn't walk toward the end. He would go one step and flop down.

I still remember the last few minutes with the vet. My wife and I were petting him, as the vet was putting him to sleep. He then flopped down, his heat stopped, and my wife closed his eyes.

Whenever we bring up these issue, we try to remember all the joy Fred brought us the 9 years of his life, and hopefully the joy we brough him.

Try to remember the happy moments you had with your cat.

Sorry to hear about "Mimi" Sky Dancer.

As I am a cat lover also.

Here is something you might find interesting:

Muezza (or Mu'izza) (Arabic: معزة‎) is said to have been the Islamic prophet Muhammad's favorite cat.

Muhammad one day awoke at the sound of the call to prayer. Preparing to attend, he began to clothe himself; however, he soon discovered Muezza sleeping on the sleeve of his robe. Rather than wake her, he used a pair of scissors to cut the sleeve off, leaving the cat undisturbed; when he returned from prayers, the prophet received a bow from Muezza in thanks. He then stroked his beloved cat three times.

It is also believed that when Muhammad gave sermons within his household, he would often hold Muezza in his lap.

Further anecdotes state that Muhammad sometimes used water that Muezza had drunk from for wudu ( ritual washing).

Due primarily to the love Muhammad displayed for Muezza, Muslims are traditionally encouraged to regard cats as lovable and cherished creatures. Mistreating an animal is seen as among the most severe of all crimes in Islam.

Caring Cats

Appearing to be, just little brats,
Nevertheless, they are caring cats.
Qualified to leap, to unreachable heights
Always more frisky, particularly at night.

Able to run sideways, even on walls
Keeping in balance, never to fall.
Accused of being finicky, when I call it class
An affectionate nature, there caring cats.

When talking to a cat, to make you aware
They shift their ears, to tell you they hear.
The light that shines, from their eyes at night
Alone in the dark, a mysterious sight.

Captivating your love, with a relaxing purr
Displaying affection, attentive to words.
Their spirited nature, being mischievous cats
Compassionate felines, their caring cats.

Oooh...cat poetry...

I think this is my favorite:

Eugene Field. 1850–1895

231. The Duel

THE GINGHAM dog and the calico cat
Side by side on the table sat;
'T was half-past twelve, and (what do you think!)
Nor one nor t' other had slept a wink!
The old Dutch clock and the Chinese plate 5
Appeared to know as sure as fate
There was going to be a terrible spat.
(I was n't there; I simply state
What was told to me by the Chinese plate!)

The gingham dog went "bow-wow-wow!" 10
And the calico cat replied "mee-ow!"
The air was littered, an hour or so,
With bits of gingham and calico,
While the old Dutch clock in the chimney-place
Up with its hands before its face, 15
For it always dreaded a family row!
(Never mind: I 'm only telling you
What the old Dutch clock declares is true!)

The Chinese plate looked very blue,
And wailed, "Oh, dear! what shall we do!" 20
But the gingham dog and the calico cat
Wallowed this way and tumbled that,
Employing every tooth and claw
In the awfullest way you ever saw—
And, oh! how the gingham and calico flew! 25
(Don't fancy I exaggerate—
I got my news from the Chinese plate!)

Next morning where the two had sat
They found no trace of dog or cat;
And some folks think unto this day 30
That burglars stole that pair away!
But the truth about the cat and pup
Is this: they ate each other up!
Now what do you really think of that!
(The old Dutch clock it told me so, 35
And that is how I came to know.)
231. Duel. Eugene Field. Yale Book of American Verse

I know, hopelessly corny, but it's one of the poems my mom used to read to us!

I've been quiet and sad today. I dozed off and almost felt Mimi on my hip as I slept. I can't go out to the grave.

I put her on two Buddhist prayer for the deceased lists. They'll pray for her for 49 days.

My heart is heavy but it's the price of love. Thanks you all for your kind wishes. We're connected through the love we have for our animal family.

SD, did you go in and were you there at the final moment? Just wondering.

I was there for the final heart beats. She wasn't put down but died naturally in the vets office.

I'm glad I was with her. She was in a coma when I saw her. It went quick.

I had to take my old cat to the vet to be put down. I had left her with my mom. Mom loved that little beast.

One day I went over and the cat was so ill, so thin, mom was waiting. I clucked my tongue and made noises while I held her -- for an hour -- until we could get into the vet's office. My tongue swelled up, but the cat was almost blind. I wanted my baby girl to know I was there. At the end it was very peaceful. No struggle like my pup (Dante) did at the end, or that my brother did at the end.

cats are very special friends for those who bond with them.

I envy you your bond and share your sense of loss.

D.

this prepared me for much later on in life.

note: yes, I'm named after my old pup. :(

I just saw this thread SkyDancer, and join with the others in feeling your loss. I have had so many truly special furry friends over the years. And they truly are our friends, soul mates at times, and teachers of unconditional love. They love us when it is almost impossible for anybody else to do so.

Though we miss them terribly, the love lives on.

Yes it does. I am really sorry. It's rough.

Try to remember the happy moments.
