My abuse victims were old enough to consent, says pop paedophile

Jonathan King, the convicted paedophile and pop impresario, was freed from prison yesterday and promptly caused outrage by claiming that the boys he sexually abused were not victims.

King, who had served half of a seven-year sentence for abusing boys aged between 13 and 15 in the 1980s, said in a radio interview a few hours after his release that his victims were "of an age and mental maturity" to make their own decisions and that none was forced to do "anything he did not want to do''.

Under some circumstances, he could be right. A woman who has sex, one day before she turns 18 (or 16, depending on the age of consent in the state one lives in) is no less able to make the choice than she would be two days later.
