CAIRO, (PIC)-- Secretary-general of the Muslim brotherhood group in Egypt Mohamed Badi'a met on Saturday in Al-Moqattam suburb near Cairo head of Hamas's political bureau Khaled Mashaal and all the Palestinian delegations that signed the reconciliation deal.

Badi'a expressed during the meeting his happiness at the Palestinian reconciliation agreement that was signed a few day ago in Cairo by all Palestinian resistance factions.

He stressed that this agreement made the Palestinian factions more bound to support the option of reconciliation, renounce division and estrangement and be one hand in the face of the Israeli occupation state that wants to keep the Palestinians divided.

The head of the Muslim brotherhood emphasized that his group would always be supportive of the Palestinian people's unity and their struggle against the occupation.

I bet you some of the things discussed were when Shariah should be put into place, and when they can cover their women in burkas and ban them from driving.

Five years after winning the elections Hamas does not seem to be in any hurry about the driving and burka thing.

In the near future the siege of Gaza will be over. The quickest way to get money and employment into the strip would be tourism. Sharia law would slam the brakes on that venture.

It will be interesting to see what they do.

You are definently right about that, no one wants to go to a place where you get lashes for not wearing a burka.

If they can get this reconciliation thing to fly (and I have my doubts) Hamas will not be the ruling party in Palestine.

Muslim Brotherhood-Linked Presidential Candidate Favors Shari’a, End to Israeli Peace
Tuesday, May 31, 2011 – An Egyptian cleric closely associated with the Muslim Brotherhood has declared his candidacy in this year’s presidential elections, three months after the organization first said it would not put up a candidate for president.
The MB has sought to allay concerns expressed at home and abroad about a looming Islamist takeover in the Arab world’s biggest country, saying that its newly-established “Freedom and Justice Party” would operate independently of the Brotherhood, with its membership open to all Egyptians. It also pledged not to contest more than 50 percent of the seats in parliament in legislative elections to be held shortly before the presidential poll, while moving away from rhetoric viewed as discriminatory towards women and Coptic Christians.

The candidacy of Sheikh Hazem Abu Ismail and his declared positions on sensitive issues will not help the MB’s effort to present a more palatable face, however. Announcing his campaign Sunday in a mosque in Giza, south of Cairo, Abu Ismail said that, if elected, he would implement Islamic law (shari’a) and annul Egypt’s three decade-old peace treaty with Israel, according to a report in the Al-Masry al-Youm newspaper. Abu Ismail said his campaign platform revolves around Islam. He predicted that other candidates, such as former International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Mohamed ElBaradei and former Arab League secretary-general Amr Moussa, would be unable to present a clear vision for Egypt.

“We seek to apply Islamic law, but those who don’t want it prefer cabarets, alcohol, dancers and prostitution, as the implementation of Islamic law will prohibit women to appear naked in movies and on beaches,” the paper quoted him as saying. With regard to the 1979 Camp David peace accord with Israel, Abu Ismail called it “insulting to the Egyptian people.” “It must be canceled, and I will do my best to convince people to cancel it.”

I think there is a basic misunderstanding about Islamic law. Palestine's constitution calls for Shari’a law but what you see does not coincide with perceptions.

Article (4)
1. Islam is the official religion in Palestine. Respect
and sanctity of all other heavenly religions shall be maintained.
2. The principles of Islamic Shari’a shall be the main
Source of legislation.
3. Arabic shall be the official language.

This was signed into law by Arafat in 2003. Eight years later women are still driving around with their hair in the breeze - even in Gaza.

Ending the peace agreement does not mean that Egypt will attack Israel. There are perks in the agreement that Israel does not deserve. It would not mean a declaration of war.
