One of the many odd things about myself is that I don't listen to music. I have never bought a tape, record or CD. I have never been to a concert, I hate dance clubs, and if I am out with friends at a bar that has a band...I will find a corner furthest away from the music or retreat outside with the smokers.

I don't hate music, it just doesn't really do anything for me except give me the occasional headache. On the flip end, I appreciate music and musicians...I just don't want to hear it unless I am in a rare mood. And the most ironic thing...I worked in radio for 5 years.

With that in mind, how about some music suggestions. I'm trying to widen my horizons and figure out why people enjoy music so much.

What is the ONE song you would recommend? I am going to download all suggestions and give music a chance. (Please no rap or heavy metal!)

I don't know if this is my favorite song or not as I generally listen to classic rock & roll from the 60s, 70s, and some 80s. However, whenever I listen to this song I'm moved to tears (no I'm not a wimp) because of the power and majesty of the woman's voice. And because she's pretty.

Don't know if this is your style or not. Most folks will reject it due to it's religious message but I'm more moved by the sweetness of Celine Dion's voice that anything else:

Christian music is fine...One of the radio stations I worked at was a contemporary Christian station.

Easy listening...Enya, Blue Stone, Native American Flute, Reggae, Classical, rock and roll.

Hat rap except for one song (Gangsters in paradise) and I refuse to listen to country western twangy Lost My Dog Lost My Woman Lost My Car nasally crap. Can you tell how much I HATE CW music? :)

Step 1. Open video to wide view
Step 2. Turn up the speakers
Step 3. Forget yourself.

Now enjoy!

That is the downside of using such beautiful music in films! imo. Commercials have wrecked a few for me including Oscar Meyer with their hotdog commercial! ugh...

I just realised the OP asked for a song. Here's a song that will set his spirit to sail!

I am going to download all of these put them in a playlist and listen to them tonight...I will let you guys know what I think.

Good. I will be looking for some music that will inspire you. I can think of another one right now. Hang on.

I really like this music. You can find more from this band on Youtube. To me it's new, fresh, creative, energetic.

A little backstory- my son's band was playing a gig and I got to the venue early. I figured I'd watch these guys just to kill time. Anyhow they ended up blowing me away.

Says the guy with a Jimi Hendrix avatar???

What is the ONE song you would recommend?

Just one...

Well, since I suspect others will through out various pop/rock songs, I'm gonna go with what I know best, which is jazz. Of course, I wouldn't recommend that same thing to a die hard fan that I would to a newbie, so here's a song that is accessible, beautiful and just about everyone would agree, a masterpiece..

Miles Davis "So What" of the seminal album 'Kind of Blue'

LOL, long story about the avatar, basically, I wanted to take all pictures of myself off the internet...the Hendrix avatar was on my computer for some reason, so I used it. I can't even name one of his songs...all I know is that his version of the National Anthem was cool.

I can say that if I had a favorite song, it would be What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong.

I like anything Phil Driscoll. He is one of the greatest trumpet players in the world. Imo.

Did you know you can get so high up in the mountains you can go above a place called the snake line? It's true. The snakes cannot survive at a certain altitude and they cannot follow you there. The world has got some 2 legged varieties that would like to follow you around too but when you get above the snake line? It's all over but the shout! lol.... This song reminds me of that...
