"Russia stages first Red Square May Day parade since Soviet days

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia staged a huge May Day parade on Moscow's Red Square for the first time since the Soviet era on Thursday, with workers holding banners proclaiming support for President Vladimir Putin ....

...past the red granite mausoleum of Soviet state founder Vladimir Lenin.

May Day, always an important date in the Soviet calendar and still a major holiday for Russians, has been marked by rallies in other parts of Moscow since the Soviet Union collapsed at the end of 1991, but until now parades were kept off Red Square."

I must have missed the references to the Haymarket Riot......

MayDay and communism.....carrots and peas.

-- walked right into my trappings too. The Soviet Union (what you think is "communism" and which wasn't even created until three decades after Haymarket) certainly exploited the already-existing worker's memorial day for its own ends in its eternal lust for power. For that matter so did Hitler. Just as Christianism exploited the already-extant Solstice and Hallows Eve and Lupercalia into Christmas and All Saints Day and Valentine's Day.

Take a date that's already held in esteem and stamp your brand on it. Old as the proverbial hills, naïve one. Politicians practice this shit on a daily basis. Amazingly there are still those gullible enough to not see right through it.

Follow your bliss.

Keep tap-dancing, apparatchik!

MayDay is associated with communism......

BTW.....so is Liberalism.
No shock there.

Ummm... Haymarket and International Workers Day happened a century after this country was founded by Liberals.

Hey, you're only off by a hundred years. That means you're getting better at this.

We all know your mythology of the evil communist behind every bush being thrown in the same pot with Liberalism is the rhetorical toy of that demagogue tool and your personal hero Joe McCarthy. Just because he drank himself to death in disgrace back in '57 doesn't make it any less dishonest.

But you have a happy Beltane anyway, Krypto.

WBAI certainly doesn't hide its affiliations.

Yesterday, during their latest beg-a-thon, the promotion was....if you send in $25, they will send you a beautiful pin memorializing Vladimir Ilyich Lenin.

Really.

"As one of his friends later recalled, "Vladimir Ilych Ulyanov (Lenin) had the courage to come out and say openly that famine would have numerous positive results...Famine, he explained....would bring about the next stage more rapidly, and usher in socialism, the stage that necessarily followed capitalism. Famine would also destroy faith, not only in the tsar, but in God, too."

OK, they're stooping a bit lower. But to their credit they don't have Al Sharpton in their lineup yet, or a reasonable facsimile thereof, but then maybe the 'roids haven't totally kicked in yet.

The east coast iteration of the Pacifica Foundation, is WBAI, 99.5 FM. It is very popular with many of our Leftwing brethren, as documented by the fact that it is listener sponsored, e.g., no commercials.

E.g. of someone who thinks they know more that they really do. I.e., that should be i.e. :D

No, it should be just as I posted....e.g......I gave as one form of proof that they are popular with their constituent that they don't require commercials.

Of course your alteration makes no sense.
It would be written as "It is very popular with many of our Leftwing brethren, as documented by the fact that it is listener sponsored, in other words, no commercials.

No commercials is not the same as being popular.

And so ends another lesson of instructing the Left, i.e., the dopes.

Eastern Europe liberated itself, and not in any way from "heroes and mentors". Ask the Hungarians of 1956 or the Czechs of 1968. They were liberating when Reagan was still a Democrat.

And cities don't run on political spectra. Mayors and city councils are managers of where the snowplows are stored; nothing to do with political philosophies.

I'd add "nice try" but that would be lying.

First of all, neither Hungary, Czechoslovakia or Poland are in "Eastern Europe"; they are smack in the MIDDLE of Europe.

Secondly, being a Hungarian myself (escaped in 1956) I know that while the efforts were heroic, both in Hungary and Czechoslovakia, the hoped for results were squashed in blood.

Without the combined efforts of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Pope John Paul II and President Ronald Reagan there would still be a Soviet Union, with the only difference that it would be a lot stronger.

Having the good luck never having lived any city (mis)managed by Democrats, I can't say whether you are right or not about local governments.

1- "Eastern Europe" was Frank's term; I mirrored it. It's a common usage here, as a political map term, not strictly geographic.

2- Really? What did the Pope do? What did Thatcher and Reagan do, other than outspend the USSR on saber rattling?

3- Regardless of your city or any other city, political spectra simply do not factor in city administrations. They don't have the political space to do so. This bullshit about pointing to political parties in arenas where political parties are irrelevant is just so much noise. Another transparent tactic by Eliminationists. That's all it is. There's nothing fundamentally different between a Republican running a city and a Democrat running the same city. Because there's nothing to exercise in that way.

I don't think that the people in Bell Calif. would agree with that.

You left me a link that makes no case whatsoever to refute what I posted up there. There's not a single reference to any kind of political philosophy whatsoever. I had to read the whole thing.

Thanks a lot. Thirty seconds I'll never get back.

WBAI certainly doesn't hide where their loyalties reside!

The just announced tonight's "May Day Broadcast"

MayDay....a celebration of all things communist.

You're so cute when you're ignorant. Which is to say, you're so cute.

May Day comes from International Workers Day, which in turn was spawned by the Haymarket Riot (1886). It's been associated with the rights of workers (that's We the People for you corporate sycophants) and the struggles workers have gone through against the exploitation of workers including women and children by Management -- you know, that god whose feet you can't seem to sufficiently slobber over.

Before that for millennia it was Beltane, the annual spring festival, so the date, and the name "May Day", have been a mark on the calendar for, literally, centuries.

" May Day has long been a focal point for demonstrations by various socialist, communist and anarchist groups commemorating the 1886 Haymarket affair in Chicago."
May Day - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

" "May Day – the day which inspires fear in the hearts of the capitalists and hope in the workers – the workers the world over – will find the Communist movement this year stronger in the U. S. than at any time in its history.... The road is clear for greater achievements, and in the United States as elsewhere in the world the future belongs to Communism."

But, you look good in red.....

....dope.
Russian Communism always reminds me of this song these days:

MSNBC watching is highly instructive......the only network to cover small penis pageants most every night. I check in for a spell most nights........a hoot to watch!! Was hysterical though back in the days of Olbermann.......dang I miss that guy!!

Unfortunately......nobody watches that network......more Americans need to watch their stuff!!:eusa_dance::eusa_dance::2up:

This sounds more like quasi-socialist (if not blatantly socialist) programming if you were to have me listen to those quotes. I have seen liberals supporting prison reform, but the abolition of prisons is more of a Marxist belief from the Marxists I've talked to.

And the pins of Lenin? Well, I guess they are Marxists after all. So, to hell with the traitors.

If one listens to it regularly, as I do, one comes away with the impression that it is a time-warp, with a mission to pretend that it is still the laboring in a period of run-away capitalism, with a blanket of racism throughout this, pictured as an evil and malevolent, nation.

Just bad, bad bad country!

Actual statements from recent broadcasts:

1. The Supreme Court decision spend money as free speech....well, then not giving folks minimum wage is stopping their free speech...

2. One host offered this: "I watch Fox for the same reason I read 'Rise and Fall of the Third Reich"

3. Discussing a recent crime, a youth who killed a passenger on a bus: "The terrible aspect of the 14 yr old who shot a man on the bus...the worst aspect is that he is being tried as an adult."

4. The suggestion for a name change for sports teams: " The Geogia Lynchers, The Bigots, The Atlanta Slavers.....not Atlanta braves, redskins, ...."

5. "Mississippi would vote Republican if Heinrich Himmler was the candidate...in fact he would be the candidate of choice!"

6. "The GOP is working to bring back Jim Crow!"

7. A morning host, Hoskins, introduced his interviewee: 'Good morning, comrade'

8. A great part of the programming is in support of every movement opposed to the only democracy in the Middle East.

9. Of course, they endorse the view that man is causing global warming, as well.

10. Promos for "Bring Mumia Home," a site championing cop-killer Mumia Abu Jamal....and the end of all prisons.

These are the messages they send to other Americans.

Kind of gets me ready for some of the posts on the board.

Liberal's want it to be 1964 through 1968, then repeat...for eternity.

So, if there is nothing different between a Republican or Democrat run city, then the sadly and tragically different results must be white or black management of a city.

You ARE a racist and don't even know it.

Uhh... no, that's your conclusion. As you're the guy who brings up race and seems hung up on it, that makes YOU the racist, and everybody knows it.

I seem to recall black mayors in New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Atlanta to name a few off the top of my head -- Asheville too for most of the time I've lived in this area. See any "sad and tragically different results" in those?

Didn't think so. Take your racism and fuck off. *I* will draw my conclusions -- not you. :fu:

Self-Image Appropriations

When people think of steroids, they get that modern age eerie feeling that these artificially enhanced athletes' bodies are changing as well as their minds sensitive to strength self-image.

We're making an army for Frankenstein (Mary Shelley) or Bane (DC Comics).

Olive Garden is a conveniently satisfying, nutritious, and culture-medley friendly ethnic (Italian-American) restaurant chain that makes me feel...better about MSNBC.
