Oh my gosh! Why in the world would Obama block this pipeline and the jobs? It makes no sense! he's a fucking job killer! Surely.....every one of those 20,00o people and the union thugs who support them will become ardent Obama supporters after they are forced to take government handouts and become dependent on the liberals to keep the handouts coming! It is all a great conspiracy!

And these jobs wont cost the Taxpayer either. They're private-sector created jobs. So come on Mr. President.

Not 3 years ago, Obama approved the Alberta Clipper pipeline.

From the U.S. Department of State website:

After considerable review and evaluation, on August 20, 2009, the Department issued a Presidential Permit to Enbridge Energy, Limited Partnership for the Alberta Clipper pipeline. In evaluating the Enbridge application, the Department worked in consultation with all relevant agencies and parties and with extensive public and stakeholder participation and outreach.

The Department found that the addition of crude oil pipeline capacity between Canada and the United States will advance a number of strategic interests of the United States. These included increasing the diversity of available supplies among the United States’ worldwide crude oil sources in a time of considerable political tension in other major oil producing countries and regions; shortening the transportation pathway for crude oil supplies; and increasing crude oil supplies from a major non-Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries producer. Canada is a stable and reliable ally and trading partner of the United States, with which we have free trade agreements which augment the security of this energy supply.

Approval of the permit sends a positive economic signal, in a difficult economic period, about the future reliability and availability of a portion of United States’ energy imports, and in the immediate term, this shovel-ready project will provide construction jobs for workers in the United States.

So, exactly what happened since 2009? Why was this approved but the XL project is on the ropes?

So the Republicans get some credit for creating jobs? That's a very small price for you and Democrats to pay for helping Americans out. It doesn't always have to be 'Party before Country.' Just let the Republicans get some credit and let's get Americans back to work.

Clearly, Obama is trying to enlarge the dependant class in America. Listen to Paulitician here.....he is surely correct in thinking that Obama is using this issue as a way to deprive the GOP of the ability to lay claim to job growth. It is so transparent! there is no way that the GOP wants to saddle the Democratic party with blame for killing the payroll tax cut by attching this pipeline to it. That would NEVER happen.

On this one I don't get Obama at all. The zealots against this are a tiny voting group.

And I've been reading articles that Union leaders are very angry with Obama over this.

Despite what the White House has to say, union leaders are angry over the decision and released statements expressing their high disappointment in the President and the administration.

A statement by Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA, is quoted saying “The Administration chose to support environmentalists over jobs – job-killers win, American workers lose.”

And I do want to bring up that 20,000 jobs is the bare minimum. Just to lay the pipeline workers will get big $$$ and be shipped into remote areas and spend their hard earned money in small towns that will benefit from housing to pizza delivery persons.

There are people who will make a killing selling donuts and coffee to the hard hats. The workers will be going into small town convenience stores and buying lottery tickets. The list is endless on how this will benefit every area on the pipeline construction.

There are so many benefits to a major construction job like this it's insane that he is stalling it.

It's actually the other way around, Laugher...the Democrats were trying to paint the Republicans into a corner for political gain by portraying them as protecting the rich while imposing taxes on the middle and lower class by voting against the payroll tax cut. The GOP threw a monkey wrench in their plans by agreeing to both the payroll tax cut and the unemployment extension and all they wanted in return was the pipeline...something that the Obama Administration shouldn't have had a problem with since they were gung ho on a pipeline project from just a few years ago. This should be the easiest thing in the world to pass. It passed with bi-partisan support in the Congress. Democrats are calling on the President to stop the partisan politics and pass it now. Quite frankly...the Dems and President Obama have set a trap for the GOP and caught themselves instead. It's rather amusing to watch.

Are the Democrats really gonna kill these jobs? Man,they'll do that at their own peril i guess. The People need jobs. This one should be very easy for them to agree on.

For sure! The GOP is clearly the party for jobs! They have done nothing but promote jobs programs and make attempt after attempt to boost the economy........to stimulate it......only to be shot down by the liberals in DC and the leftwing media! refusing to go along with this pipeline will be proof positive that the Democrats are anti-job......anti-American and pro Muslim extremist!

Just a tip, sarcasm doesn't play well on message boards unless you hint a bit at being sarcastic. Otherwise most wont pick up on your sarcasm. I think i did pick up on it though. But if i'm wrong,i apologize and please disregard this reply. :)

Because there is strong evidence that the pipeline will kill more jobs than it will create. The Canadian portion of the pipeline has already proven to be a needless endeavor and has invaded the cost of doing business for oil refineries. That's going to be offset by higher pump prices which will in turn increase the cost of doing business for other businesses. Which will likely lead to layoffs. Currently there is no need for increased pipeline demand. Analysts predict that if the line is extended into the US, pipelines between Canada and here will operate at 50% capacity. Low capacity causes tolls per barrel to rise in order to cover construction and maintenance costs for the entire infrastructure.

You are watching too much MSNBC. This pipeline is a huge part of the solution to our weak economy. That's why Obama opposes it.

Lots of private-sector jobs here. Just do it. Let's quit playing politics. The People just want to work. They don't care who gets the credit for creating these jobs. They can all take credit and just help Americans out. It's a Win/Win.

There are plenty of jobs out there in the country, just not enough skilled workers to fill them.

Kind of the result of our hatred of keeping our youth educated. Such a disdain for those college types.

Yes we need lots of jobs, but the Keystone XL pipeline is a baaad way to go about it. It's a bad bad bad idea, and jobs shouldn't be the only thing concerned.
