AL-KHALIL, (PIC)-- Palestinian MP Nazar Ramadan, who represents Al-Khalil on the Palestinian Legislative Council, denied media rumors that 15 of Hamas's PLC members support Salam Fayyad as prime minister in the future technocrat government agreed upon in Cairo.

Ramadan called the news published by the Asharq al-Awsat baseless, confirming that Fayyad, who currently has acted as prime minister in the split government in Ramallah before the unity deal, is “not wanted” by Hamas.

“Fayyad has many violations. Some circles in Hamas have demanded that he be tried before the PLC, as he has led a political arrest campaign in the West Bank and torture operations against political prisoners from Hamas and others,” MP Ramadan said.

“He has exhausted the Palestinian citizen with his tax policy and economic and political failure, and his cabinet was a black blot in the Palestine's political history...which in Hamas's view is an illegitimate government not voted in by the PLC.”
