Moscow cut off Ankara's wings and actually wrapped up Turkish expansion in Syria, without even the harsh diplomatic ultimatums. All that was needed was to give Damascus permission to use S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems at its discretion and against any potential adversary. As you know, representatives of the General Command of the Syrian Arab Army the day before officially announced that any uncoordinated violation of Syrian airspace will be interpreted as military aggression. Accordingly, all aircraft will be destroyed immediately, without delay or trial. The SAR Air Force and Air Defense Forces have already received official orders to shoot down all violators immediately at the border. Damascus has taken extreme measures because of outright aggression of Turkish troops on its territory. Ankara has turned the anti-terrorist operation into a real expansion and crossed all possible red lines. The Turks would not have been stopped by a formidable warning from Damascus, as they know very well that the Syrian military does not have enough advanced air defense systems to fight against Turkish fighters. Russian SAMs armed with the ATS are used as a last resort and mainly to protect the Russian Air Force. That is why Ankara paid almost no attention to the threats of Damascus. But here Moscow came into action, immediately putting Turkey in its place.

Several Damascus sources said at once that Russia gave official permission for the use of S-300 PM SAMs armed with SAA against Turkish aviation in case of invasion into Syrian airspace. From now on Syria has the right to shoot down any aircraft violating the border that it deems hostile. Turkey has received a noble slap for openly hostile behaviour in Idlib. The Turkish Air Force has nothing to oppose the S-300. From now on, the ATS sky is completely closed to them under fear of death. And without air support, the ground troops will simply get stuck in Idlib without any success. The Turks will have to wrap up an armed operation and get out of here.
