The Northeast faced a fourth day of a record-breaking heat wave on Wednesday, after triple-digit temperatures tested power supplies throughout the region and tried the patience and resilience of anyone who dared to venture outside.

For the second straight day, New York City set a record high for the day and utilities warned that the length and intensity of this heat wave was testing the limits of their systems.

Record heat roasts eastern United States July 7, 2010

New York roasted in record temperatures on Tuesday as a heat wave rolled across the eastern United States, pushing power companies to the limit and driving residents to municipal "cooling centres".

The National Weather Service (NWS) measured 103 degrees Fahrenheit (39.45C) in Central Park in mid-Manhattan, easily breaking the 101 degrees record set for July 6 back in 1999.

Soaring temperatures, often in the triple-digit range, also afflicted Washington, DC; Richmond, Virginia; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and reached as far as Montreal, Canada.

Watts Up With That has an excellent little article that shows how your inflated temps were derived including the 192 degree temp attained by the tarmac that surrounds the weather station at the airport. That would be relevant don't you think?

Watts Up With That?

Chris is the one that during the winter as people posted RECORD cold spells that lasted weeks and months INSISTED that a single month was irrelevant and now is claiming just the opposite.

Comrade! Wonderful News! How can we use this bit of information to transfer American wealth?

But of course, that is the standard MO of the ethically challenged.

Well dingbats, the temps are also setting records in small towns, and on the farms.

However, every summer has a few exceptionally hot days, every winter a few exceptionally cold days. Let us revisit this in October, and see what this summer looks like from that vantage point.

Comrade, let us use this information to redistribute wealth as we see fit!

I predicted the colder winter last year when I posted an article about how the sun was at its lowest level of activity in 80 years.

You are a liar.

You couldn't predict which direction the sun will rise.

MARK HARRISON / THE SEATTLE TIMES

People from hotter parts of the country may snort, but in Seattle, anyway, Wednesday's heat broke a record set 57 years ago.

The temperature hit 90 degrees Wednesday at the National Weather Service's measuring station at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, according to meteorologist Chris Burke.

The previous record of 88 degrees was set in 1953. Record-keeping at the airport began five years before that, in 1948.

Thursday, meanwhile, is set to shatter records. With a strong high-pressure ridge sitting over the Northwest, the weather service is predicting temperatures will reach 94 degrees Thursday. The previous record for July 8 is 87 degrees.

You say that the sun was at its lowest level of activity in 80 years as proof of anything you say, dickweed.

The hottest day ever recorded in Connecticut....

No matter how you say it, the simple fact is it is hot, as Connecticut and the rest of the Northeast suffer a major heat wave.

The temperature at Bradley Airport was at 102 degrees late Tuesday afternoon. That ties all-time record high recorded at Bradley in August of 2001 and July of 1996. The heat index, which factors humidity into the equation, was expected to make it feel 105 degrees or more.

Yes yes record heat, blah, blah, the end is nigh....

So, care to enlighten me as to why this instance of weather is indicative of climate but the record cooling a year ago was not?.....
