More melamine-tainted milk
BEIJING — Melamine-tainted dairy products were pulled from convenience store shelves in southern China more than a year after hundreds of thousands of children had been sickened in a massive milk safety scandal, a government spokeswoman said Monday.
The announcement calls into question the effectiveness of a crackdown launched by Chinese officials to improve product safety after a number of scandals, including the contamination of baby formula in 2008 and the recent discovery of the toxic metal cadmium in cheap jewelry.
Frozen milk products and cartons of milk dating from early 2009 were taken off the shelves after health inspectors tested them and found melamine, said Ling Hu, a Guizhou provincial government spokeswoman.
She said the provincial health bureau was checking to see why the products were not pulled from the shelves earlier. Calls to the Guizhou health bureau ran unanswered Monday.

Cheap labor...all the "off-shoring" from the US to those cheaper labor places with less oversights and less regulation is a huge problem.

Although, didn't the Chinese Government execute those who were responsible for the last problem? Or, was that just for "show" since that this melamine enhancement of food products was made public so embarrassed the Chinese Gov't.?

Yep industry regulating itself at it's finest.
We don't need no stinking FDA.

You idiot. the government of China acts as the oversight committee. It's evidence of the effacy of government oversight, not the other way around.

Moron.

If not for "show" and the Chinese Government really does not tolerate that kind of additives in food that causes death then that is something the US Gov't should look at when our companies here engage in matters like this, or medical malpractice or anything that the public is put in danger of? You know, instead of a slap on the wrist and a pittance of a fine execute the CEO's and/or company owners who knowingly pass on false info, who bribe the pharmaceutical companies knowingly the drugs are dangerous and have caused death well...maybe it would clean up the way some of the companies here do business?

Just thinking about the broader side of the way business seem to operate; pay-off's/bribes, corruption, etc....

FDA is bought and paid for by corrupt politicians, company owners...

Yes I like the way the chinese govt handles it there. Here they get a bonus and blame it on a vendor. Or get a 100K fine while making a few million off the bad product.
