But two years after the loan was announced, the company's manufacturing jobs are still limited to the assembly of the flashy electric Fisker Karma sports car in Finland.

1) name me a car company that hasn't had a recall in the last 5 years.
2) Are you convieniently forgetting that they bought a plant in Deleware and are busy renovating the plant right now preparing to open it next year, or are you intentionally trying to mislead people?

This might turn out to be a good thing, but the stink is starting to rise from it right now. Here's a good article that raises the right questions sna gives a fair picture of the whole question:

Is Fisker a 'Green Car' Solyndra Scandal? : Discovery News

<snip>

-- Since Fisker backers have contributed to Democratic party causes, is there any hard evidence of improper influence over the DoE loan process by the White House?

-- How did Fisker come to select a closed assembly plant located in Vice President Joe Biden's home state, since Delaware is no longer an obvious place to build cars?

-- What steps does the DoE take to monitor compliance with the loan terms--and why won't it release the revised terms of the Fisker loans?

Fisker bought the plant back in 2009. As of now they are supposedly wishing to hire 120 workers for 2012 and then a further 80 next year. When this started Fisker claimed the Delaware plant would employ "thousands"- his words. So what's up? Two years in and they are only looking at 200 employees?

Ah well, you people just keep building buggy whips. Here is Oregon, we are building the future.

Revolt Battery Tech Settles in Portland

The new facility, in Portland’s Airport Way Urban Renewal Area, is already in operation and will be used for development of the company’s Zinc Flow Air Battery (ZFAB) for electric vehicles and energy storage applications. This new class of rechargeable battery system combines key innovations from the fields of fuel cells and metal-air batteries. The technology has the potential to provide a battery system with three times the energy density of today’s technologies at approximately half the cost and with lower environmental impact.

“Portland is on a technology roll,” said Mayor Sam Adams. “ReVolt’s commitment to innovation and job creation for our talented workforce advances our mission to become a global leader in clean technology. We welcome ReVolt as a vital addition to Portland’s bright, collaborative, exciting business community.”

Mayor Sam Adams has also been quoted “As a company on the cutting edge of the electric-vehicle industry, ReVolt is bringing to Portland its commitment to innovation and Portland is one step further down the road to being America’s EV hub.”

“New technologies like ReVolt’s battery and energy storage are critical to our clean energy future,” said Governor Kitzhaber. “I am thrilled Revolt has invested in Oregon and is part of our state’s growing clean economy sector

Mmmmmmaybe. I personally think that batteries are old hat. Fuel cells and possibly hydrogen are the future, not technology from the turn of last century. But hey I'm a technologist. I think about what can be, not what was great 100 years ago.

"By 2030, the use of petroleum, coal, and natural gas is expected to jump by 23 percent, 44 percent, and 37 percent, respectively. "You look at the world of renewables and you see a lot of progress, but they are not going to outpace the growing demand for energy," says Peter Jackson, a senior director at IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates, an energy consultancy and think tank."
