One little-known fact about the world of journalism is that news organizations prepare obituaries of famous people while those people are still alive, so that packages of material will be ready to go when a death is announced.
Over the past week, journalists have been writing articles that have the quality of these sorts of pre-obituaries — only the event they’re anticipating isn’t the last breath of an individual but the defeat of President Obama’s re-election bid.
Even more striking, these journalists aren’t conservatives indulging in their deepest wish, but rather liberals who admire Obama and want to see him win a second term.

Al Hunt, who was for decades the voice of liberal conventional wisdom as the Washington bureau chief of The Wall Street Journal, declared yesterday in his Bloomberg column that Obama “needs an intervention"

I'll look for Al Hunts comments to see if the context is meaningful.

It's not quite as bad as Walter Cronkite (but it is close).

All you are seeing left are the Bob Schrum's of the world....isn't that comforting :badgrin::badgrin:

E.J. Dionne — perhaps Obama’s most devoted op-ed-writing fan — reported that campaign honcho David Axelrod was finding it necessary to buck up the staff because it has become clear their guy may lose. “Obama,” Dionne lamented, “is not blessed with the opportunity to be simple.”
Romney, you see, can be simple because he can say Obama’s policies haven’t worked. What a gyp!
Obama, Dionne continued, “has to show that he knows things are bad for a lot of people but also insist that his policies made things a whole lot better than they would have been. He has to argue that the Republicans are blocking his proposals to improve the economy, but he doesn’t want to look like a politician inventing an alibi.”

He got the same pass running against McCain. He had no record to defend.

Now he has one...and it sucks.

So long BHO.

When the media knows what excuse they will use, which is almost always the same for Obama, it's easy to write things like this in advance.

They have two articles at the ready. One says that Obama won because the good people have spoken and know what they want. The other says that Obama lost because racism is still rampant.

Walker won the recall by a margin twice as much as the original election, yet they stuck with their story that it was neck in neck close and money was the key factor.

If Barrett had won by a single point, they would have called it a landslide, despite all the money spent. Of course, the unions didn't pay for those ads with their good looks.

These are not reporters that many rely on to bring them the news. They are professional propaganda artists who want to shape public opinion, not inform.

From the article:

Hunt’s piece suggests the frustration in dealing with White Houses and re-election campaigns that don’t know how much trouble they’re in. Every president and his team seem to remain absurdly calm and preposterously sure of themselves even as the political winds are shifting.

The odd habit of taking a cat nap on the subway track while the IRT is bearing down on you at 60 miles an hour isn’t unique to this administration. In 1993, I wrote a book, “Hell of a Ride,” that chronicled the suicide of the George H.W. Bush presidency in part due to the excess of calm inside the White House bubble.

The same self-destructive calm was in effect in 1994, when Bill Clinton’s party was shocked to find itself decimated by the Republicans in the midterm elections; in 2006, when George W. Bush’s party was similarly thumped — and in 2010, when Barack Obama’s party was shellacked.

I am not sure you can admit you are in trouble....that says you were wrong. And in today's world that just does not seem to work.

HAD the GOP been really organized in 2010, they would have done even better. They are still a mess. But the dems, and the WH in particular are an even bigger mess. And they won't admit it.

What's worse is that their stuborness is really driven by the need to satisfy a base....at the detriment of the country.

The Tea Party, on the other hand, is a direct response to a big problem. An open admission that the current status quo isn't working. The Beltway GOP does not like them, but they can't resist them.

People like RDean and Chris have no idea just how glued to the ideology they are. And they will still be glued to it as it passes through 1000 ft headed to the bottom.

Enjoy the view down there.

The only bad thing about putting up articles like this is that it might wake them up to the fact they are so screwed. Maybe we should praise Obama in front of Liberals so they will be lulled to sleep...only to find out that in early November they are no longer relevant to the federal discussion.

They see the writting on the wall I mean in 2010 it was the third biggest change of power in the nation's history. It wont stop until all incumbent lefties and rinos are gone IMO.

What is more interesting is that if you look at past history...you can see momentum shifting. And the economy is going to crash on Obama like a tidal wave.

He still holds leads in states....but they are shrinking just about everywhere. He is just trying to hold on.

What a sad state of affairs from the man who put out this vision (one he knew was not possible since a lot of the country was very much opposed to him) of Hope and Change to one where he looks like a whiny old lady begging for more time to do things differently so he won't go down in history as one of the worst.

Obama

The next five months should be interesting — given that Barack Obama is now experiencing something entirely unique in his heretofore stellar career: widespread criticism of his performance and increasing weariness with his boilerplate and his teleprompted eloquence.

Starting with his Occidental days, and going on through Columbia, Harvard, Chicago, the U.S. Senate, and the 2008 campaign, rarely has Mr. Obama faced much criticism, much less any accountability that would involve judging his rhetoric by actual achievement.

Yet what worked for so long now does no longer. Obama simply cannot run on 40 months of 8 percent–plus unemployment, a June 2009 recovery that sputtered, $5 trillion in new debt, serial $1 trillion–plus annual deficits, and dismal GDP growth.

You will notice Chris and others have not posted so much now that things are really starting to crash. It is easy to withdraw from the daily lashing of facts that essentially tell you the fairy tale you were sold is now a nightmare.

Katrina does not seem to recall his own statement about stepping down.

She never bought into it. she wants him to stay and make sure that our country goes bust.

Katrina vanden Heuvel: Progressive action can move the candidates - The Washington Post

After a rough few weeks, filled with disappointing economic news and distracting political gaffes, President Obama finally had a rare throw-down-the-mike moment. In a highly anticipated campaign speech in Ohio last Thursday, he clearly and unequivocally framed the November election as a choice, not simply “between two candidates or two political parties, but between two paths for our country.”

The choice is indeed a stark one: a return to the failed Bush policies of unregulated markets and antitax fundamentalism that served the 1 percent as they failed the country; or concerted government action to rebuild the middle class as the foundation for sustained economic growth. As Obama said, “this is not another trivial Washington argument.”
