Well, I think taxing the rich and making sure working people got a fair shot had a lot to do with that, too.

Don't you understand that those 'corporate taxes' that you're clamoring for will be passed on to the consumer? You know, you and me?

You raise their taxes, they raise their prices to cover it.

Walmart made record profits last year, their highest profits in history, $15.7 billion. They are currently in the proccess of giving record dividends to the shareholders before year's end so the Walton's can save $180 million in taxes. The could easily pay each of their 1.4 million American employees $100 more per week, and then they would be paying federal income tax and they wouldn't qualify for food stamps and Medicaid. Walmart would still make $8.7 billion which would be a handsome return on investment for the shareholders and everyone would win.

As it stands now, Walmart subsidized their record profits on backs of every American taxpayer, so you those goods you're getting from Walmart aren't nearly as cheap as you think. Walmart is a company that undercuts the competition and drives tax paying businesses, out of business, cratering out main streets until they're the only place you can shop for miles, and the only place to work as well. Healthy, thriving, tax paying businesses are pushed out, and only Walmart remains. Their workers pay no taxes, they drive jobs overseas.

Yes, pay no attention as Walmart, and the other vulture corporations suck the American taxpayers dry. It's all about those workers whose wages haven't gone up in since Reagan was in power, and who now need food stamps to feed their families, who are the REAL problem, not the guys who put them in this position by shipping their jobs offshore, and then cutting their pay.

You can't change the FACT that corporate taxes WILL get paid by consumers.

In my state (Maryland) our Governor (O'Malley) has chased 5 major corporations out of the state, and raised taxes 24 times in the last 4 years. Typical Dem thinking.

If Wal Mart's net profits dropped by nearly 50%, the stock would absolutely plummet, probably by more than that. People with Wal Mart stock, including retired people who depend on WMT's 2.30% dividend, would be hurt badly. People whose retirement accounts, and non-profits whose endowment funds include mutual funds and ETF's that invest in Wal Mart would also be hurt.

I'm not a fan of Wal Mart, but let's keep this real.

Walmart's profits went up substantially last year. The Walton family own 41% of the stock and they can well afford to do with a smaller dividend. And don't hand me that poor old ladies rely on their dividends crap either. Even with their profits reduced by $7 billion dollars, the shareholders would still be receiving decent dividends. And note that the Walmart dividend is being paid before year's end so the Walton's will save $180 million in taxes which they would have to pay after January 1.

Greed, on the part of the corporation, pure and simple. No amount of profit is enough.

I have never shopped at Walmart because of their practice of destroying downtown retail district with no remorse. Those are the people who pay taxes, not Walmart. Every Walmart store in America costs American taxpayers $420,000 in subsidies paid to their employees.

But keep on railing against the working poor who have no other choice. Walmart HAS a choice, and they choose to exploit their employees and their government. But they're the good guys.

When Americans know how much taxes the wealthy pay you have a credible argument that these Americans know enough to make that decision. Most Americans think the rich pay no taxes, or at most only 20%. No wonder they believe the rich aren't paying a "fair" share.
