US Attorney General Faces Renewed Criticism Over Mexico Gun Operation
February 02, 2012 - U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has faced a new round of Republican criticism over a controversial tactic in which U.S. authorities allowed gun buyers to move arms into Mexico, destined for drug cartels.
In testimony to Congress Thursday, Holder said "Operation Fast and Furious" was flawed, and that allowing arms to "walk" - under any circumstance - is unacceptable. "The tactic of not interdicting weapons, despite having the ability and legal authority to do so, appears to have been adopted in a misguided effort to stem the alarming number of illegal firearms that are trafficked each year from the United States to Mexico," Holder said. "Now, to be sure, stopping this dangerous flow of weapons is a laudable and critical goal, but attempting to achieve it by using such inappropriate tactics is neither acceptable nor excusable."

Holder told lawmakers on the committee Thursday that he never authorized the operation, and ordered it to stop after he found out about it. Republicans charge that the Justice Department has not provided enough information to them. The head of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, California Republican Darrell Issa, has accused Holder of protecting staff, deceiving the public and obstructing the panel's investigation.

At the hearing Thursday, he warned of possible congressional action to force the Justice Department to provide information to the committee. "Mr. Attorney General, you have, the Executive Branch has, executive privilege," said Issa. "It’s narrow. It’s well-defined. There is case law. If you do not find a legitimate basis to deny us the material we’ve asked for, we will seek the remedies necessary to compel."

U.S. authorities lost track of hundreds of weapons they were supposed to be monitoring. Many weapons eventually were recovered from crime scenes. Two were found at the scene where U.S. border agent Brian Terry was shot and killed in 2010. Holder said the Justice Department is building its case and is close to making announcements regarding arrests and holding those responsible for the agent's death and the flawed operation.

Has anyone taken notice that ever since Castro the second took office, blacks feel they can get away with just about anything? It all started with the Black Panther scandal, then onto Obama's Flash Mobs, then OWS Crapper Mobs trashing their own cities. Just look at Oakland,,,,and not one peep from O'Bozo to tell his people to stop burning down Oakland?

Bush program. Obama has ended it. Find a new scandal, losers.

Got a credible link for to back that up? Or is it another Dem whine like these:
1. "The Banks caused the financial collapse" (actually it was the Dem passing the "Community Reinvestment Act" forcing the banks to make loans to the unqualified, who defaulted and caused the collapse)
2. The Stimulus will get the unemployment rate below 8%...
3. Mr. Terry is DEAD and the Dems are circling wagons. Mr Bush did not sell the guns that killed him. It happened on Obama's and Holder's Watch. I hope someone goes to jail over that wrongful death.

LIAR. The Bush Program was halted LONG before Obama became President. The reason? Because even with Mexican help they could not track the weapons. In Fast and Furious they did not even bother to tell the Mexicans. Only 400 or so weapons were lost on the program during Bush's term.

Bush stopped Operation Gunrunner because they couldn't keep track of where the guns were going in Mexico even with the full cooperation of the Mexican government.

Operation Fast & Furious is what the Holder DOJ hatched to show that more stringent gun control laws were needed. The Obama Administration never even told the Mexican government that they were running the operation.

Obama "ended it" when Brian Terry, a US Border Patrol agent got killed by one of the Fast & Furious guns and pissed off ATF agents leaked the story to the media. That was when Holder pretended he'd just heard about the whole thing like a week before...lying his ass off in front of Congress. As the scandal slowly unraveled it became obvious that Holder did in fact know about Operation Fast & Furious about six months before he said he heard about it.

And my question AGAIN...is why is this lying sack of shit our Attorney General? Other than he's one of Barry's buddies from Harvard, of course.

1. The CRA was a bad law, but the proximate cause was banks bundling those bad mortgages with good ones and selling them off as securities, while the housing bubble burst because middle class families were buying "McMansions" hoping to flip them in a few years.

2. The 8% claim was only made by one official, on the premise that the whole proposal was passed, not the watered down version. Stimulus was a bad idea because it wasn't directed correctly.

3. Agent Terry took a dangerous job, just like any other law enforcement officer. if the government went after every gun shop where a gun that killed a cop started it's life, you would be screaming about the 2nd Amendment being violated.

My own thought on this issue. - HOlder should resign because this was an ineptly run program. So should the entire leadership of the ATF. But this was not a conspiracy to take your pacifiers...

Explain to me what the "purpose" of Operation Fast & Furious was then, JoeB? ATF already knew they couldn't keep track of the guns. They learned that with Operation Gunrunner. So what reason would the DOJ have for starting a program like Fast & Furious other than using the fact that guns bought in US gunshops were being smuggled across the border so it's obvious that we need more stringent gun control laws? If you've got another reason for running the program I'd love to hear it.

Holder denying he didn't know anything about F&F is like a 35 yr old male denying he's ever looked at a Playboy or Penthouse magazine in his lifetime.
