More Anti-gay Bigots in Rural Areas

People are not "hateful" just because they don't think you're homosexuality is awesome.

Getting gay slurs screamed in your face while someone slaps you isn't a person just having the opinion that "homosexuality isn't awesome."

Hate is hate. It's accompanied by words and deeds.

So you flaunted your sexuality in public and got a reaction. How strange! How about you limit your display of intimacy to private places?

So, shouldn't that apply for hetero couples as well? What should we do if we see a man and woman kissing in public? Hit 'em with a stick like they do in the Muslim countries? Throw water on 'em? What?

If we are going to have laws against PDA like they do in the Muslim countries we might as well start wearing bed sheets, cover our women in burkas and start speaking Arabic.
Thats what I love the most about being an American, being able to make out with a girl dressed like a stripper and slap her ass without being beheaded or thrown in jail.

Why did you get up in their face?

What I have seen in rural areas is that most people are content to leave well enough alone. But, when someone starts making demands, insinuating themselves and wanting to force change where it doesn't belong and is unwanted (usually for the good only of the gay making the demands), rural people can get quite hostile.
Blame the victim. That's the first reaction. And then create a scenario in which the victim is the agitator. We saw the same lame defense of cruelty during the Civil Rights marches in the bigoted old south.

What if those demands were simply to live as one wishes? Why would the assumption be made that there was "insinuation"? And what change are the homosexual community wanting? Access to the system of jurisprudence and contract law that has made our society a stable one?

Where are the Conservatives who advocate for basic civil rights? I only see Conservatives who would gladly erode civil rights.

Matter of fact, that's what I liked about working at a biker bar called Boondocks, because it seemed that at LEAST 7 or 8 times a week, some chick would come up and flash her boobs at me.

Then.......there was the time that a hot blonde came up, flashed and kissed me and told me I was gonna be her plaything for the evening..........

Nope, sorry.............shouldn't matter who you love, it should just matter that you love SOMEONE.

And yeah..........if a gay couple wants to walk down the street holding hands or kissing like the heteros do, hey, it's a free country.

That's what I gave 20 years of my life for.

That reminds me of this bar in California next to Vandenberg Air Force Base where I was stationed, I was out in the smoke pit and a couple of college girls decided to start flashing their titties at us guys and having us judge which ones were perkier, I even got to feel a pair of them to see if they were real or not. A cougar that was out there decided to out do them and took off her shirt and shorts and was basically naked out there for 5 minutes smoking a Newport, I took her back to my apartment for some fun times. Basically I agree with you Biker, being effectionate should not be limited for us hetero folks, no matter how disgusted some people get with homosexuals.

One might think that there is never an open insinuation of heterosexuality in this country. As if beer commercials, cologne commercials, car commercials never used sex as an advertising ploy. As if there is no such thing as pornography or even the slightest hint that sex is a popular activity. A natural zesty enterprise, to quote Maude Lebowski.

Nope, most my neighbors like us. I'm saying that there are more incidents of bigotry that I've known about in the last ten years I've lived in this county than at any other time of my life.

Maybe they think you're a paranoid twit? It's not always about your personal life - maybe they just don't like you?

You are very quick to judge people. So maybe that's what they see... a judgmental, paranoid twit with a chip on her shoulder.

When someone jumps out of the bushes, screams anti-gay slurs in my face, and hits me for no reason, I call that bigotry. What do you call it? Do you support that kind of hateful behavior?

Nothing paranoid in it at all. It's the truth.

I had no chip on my shoulder walking my dog at dusk with my wife on my own private road. I was relaxed and felt completely safe until that moment.

I'm sorry about your experience ... I hope the hick goes to jail for that!

I spent a few weekends and holidays in West Monroe, LA and the amount of sheer hate that I've witnessed towards especially black folks was appalling. Some of the folks I met there (nearly all of them) spoke of blacks as if they were some sort of animals. It was disgusting. The worst thing was the folks that weren't racist didn't even say anything to the ones that did say all of those hateful things. I was a guest and an immigrant, so I had to keep my mouth shut. It was the first time I tried to mask my accent, btw.

That's why I always speak out against hate crimes. People who don't condone the behavior.

Truth is, the officer who came to talk to us was just as prejudiced as the guy who attacked us.

He erased the 9/11 record and did not file any incident report.

I'm sorry you had to mask your accent. That's not right.

Yes we sure do.

We only get to hear one side of this story

So, in your opinion, bigotry is okay?
At the store this morning I went through the apples and picked out the one I liked the most.

Bigotry is everywhere, it's natural, even the OP shows bigotry in the thread title towards "rural people".

The violence in the story is what's wrong.

So........bigotry is okay as long as it's peaceful?

Really?

Indeed: Peaceful, AND YOU are not in the minority.

Make sense now?

Bigotry is ok as long as it isn't YOUR group that's hated.
