Modern Conservatism, Modern liberalism

I'm for whichever group has any real desire to uphold the Constitution. I want to be a member of that political party. These days upholding the Constitution seems to be out of step with any political party. Call yourself whatever makes you feel good with the name but if you don't follow the Constitution I would call you a scumbag.

you're a libertarian then. and boy do you sure hate booosh

And I prefer low government involvement in industry and low government involvement in social issues. There are a lot like me, too - political conservatives and social liberals. Goldwater, a Republican was one as well.

I think your lesson was rather close minded.

Yeah. Liberal and Conservative are very broad terms that encompass many different ideologies. With conservatives you have neocons, the religious right, cultural conservative, classical liberal type conservative, etc.

which is why i picked two particular types from liberal, and conservative. MODERN

And then you asserted that modern liberals are socialists... Which I still disagree with.

Okay so we had a reading lesson in poli sci today and here are some things i learned, but kinda already knew about the left and right.

Modern Liberals support high government involvement in industry and businesses, but little to none in social issues

Modern conservatives support little to no government involvement in industry and business, but high government involvement in social issues.

Socialism
1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.

In definition, modern liberals are socialists. haha.

By definition, they are not.

Modern Liberals do not in fact suggest that production should be owned and controlled by the government.

That is what tis commonly referred to as an exaggeration, or Hyperbole.

And by that same logic, conservatives, who seek moral control of the population, would be "Facists", which they are not.

The current battle between Liberal and Conservative ideals is in fact a battle between a more Socialist-Leaning Capitalist Democracy, and a Supercapitalist Corporate Oligarchy.

this is from the book and my prof, and i'm paying him to teach me so i'll go with him on this

Then your prof is prone to Hyperbole, and is probably a conservative-minded graduate of a Conservative-Minded business school.

A true SOCIALIST would demand government ownership and control of all production.

There is not one liberal that I know of that has ever stated this as their goal. EVER. People who state this as a goal are members of the Socialist or Communist parties, not Liberals.

Increased government involvement in the regulation of some select businesses is not Socialism.

Socialism would be the government taking over businesses and running them throught the government.

The only example of this among Liberals is the recent takeover of ONE Auto Manufacturer, but this was only due to the fact that it's failure was deemed to be catastrophic to the public.

The government does not in fact intend to retain ownership of even the one manufacturer it took over.

no actually he's a moderate. and i'll agree that they are not completely socialist, but it's close.

Libertarian? Maybe. Do I hate Bush? Not at all. With him I always knew where he stood on things. Can't say that about Obama or many of the others. I didn't always like the things that Bush did but I don't think he is as dishonorable of a man as you would like for me to believe. I think Bush was a man of character. He certainly was not a cheap, nearly criminal political hack from Chicagoland that is quickly destroying America.

he violated ammendments 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, the declaration of independence,
almost every article of the convention against torture
got us into two wars both for horrible and unjustified reasons, spent up to 42% of his presidency on vacation. Honorable? no. Cheap political hack? yes.

congatulations, you're a libertarian. ....
Congrats, you're wrong. But let's not keep any facts from getting in the way of more close mindedness.

.... not really. all i was sharing were two things from the lesson, there were other things too.
Partial knowledge can make so many look foolish.
