Glad to see the memorial built, but it looks foreboding and intimidating to me.

That is what I was thinking.
It looks like a statue of Stalin or something...why did they make it with such a defiant stance and stern look on his face?
I don't like it.

I think you definitely have something there.

The statue looks nothing like Eddie Murphy, a stretch of a resemblance to the comedian at best.

However, Sherman Hemsley, the actor that played character "George Jefferson," is a much closer resemblance to that statue.

You see Eddie Murphy is more slim and trim and his forehead is not as prominent.

Whereas Sherman is short and is almost all forehead. The statue seems to have depicted MLK as shorter here, more in line with Sherman Hemsley, combined with the forehead and other features, namely the folds of the eyelids, which are pretty much just like Sherman's and nothing at all like Eddie's. Not to mention their noses. Sherman's practically identical to the statue's....oh, and the lips too.

I think it's a great memorial... and because of del's astute observation, I now realize that Eddie Murphy does share a noticeable resemblance to MLK!

The only down side is that the memorial of a man who fought for racial equality his whole life is being criticized because it was created by someone who is Chinese. Petty, and totally inappropriate.

It looks amazing.

Definitely a reason to visit again.

Keep in mind Lumpy that even though Southern Democrats led the fight against Civil Rights, Southern Republicans did not support it either. Joining the Republican party would not have provided him any additional support in the south. By all accounts, he was politically neutral.

It has been posted several times as Republican revisionist history. It was wrong before, it is wrong now. The south was solid Democrat. It does not mean that Southern Republicans somehow supported the rights of blacks
