MLK day

A day to remember a great man.

However I have to ask, why are all you libs so quick to claim MLK? His own niece said today, what anyone with half a brain should know, If MLK was alive today he would be a died in the wool Social Conservative completely opposed to Abortion.

So many Democrat Hero's, MLK, JFK, would not even recognize where the Democrat Party is today, and yet you still act like the Democrat party can claim these people as evidence of where they party is today.

To funny.
Another boob parroting his MessiahRushie!

MLK Jr sure sounds like every CON$ervative I've never heard!

Nobody has "claimed" the man. Nutters wake up every MLK day and, realizing that they do not identify with much of what this great man stood for, get a weird impulse to argue with liberals about who he would most appreciate were he alive today.

It happens every fucking year.

With all due respect, it's daily. Haven't you noticed how the press keeps leaving out Rev?

It's on purpose. I hone in on the media because that's what I'm good at. And what I always get is not what they print, but what they omit.

Yep because every single year you Democrats hold him up like he would have anything to do with what your party has become today.

Fact is by the way, I don't think there was anything MLK was for that I am not for.

One Problem. I don't listen to Rush. I am repeating what MLK's own Niece had to say today, and commenting on it. I take if you think she should just STFU up right, or stop parroting Rush? lol

Do you Deny MLK would be a Social Con if alive today?

lol

Do those quotes sound like any CON$ervative you know?

You are parroting what your MessiahRushie told you MLK Jr's niece said, as if she is a mind-reader. If MLK Jr was alive today he would say his niece was full of shit. Ask him.

Yes, because some angry, incoherent internet retard knows SO much more about the man than his own family does.

Oh, wait, that's right -- you're a white liberal. White liberals ALWAYS know what blacks think and feel.

King's family does not agree with the CON$ervative whacko niece, but what do they know, they are only family.

Oh wait, you're a brainwashed CON$ervative know-it-all who knows what dead people think, so one CON$ervative whacko trumps an entire family.

Meet MLK's Glenn Beck-loving niece - Glenn Beck - Salon.com

King, who until recently went by Alveda Beal King, has political commitments born of a difficult personal life. She frequently describes the formative role played by her divorces and two abortions, holding tight to her family name even as she became estranged from family.
In 1994, she released a letter condemning Coretta Scott King’s support for abortion and gay rights, saying it would bring “curses on your house and your people … cursing, vexation, rebuke in all that you put your hand to, sickness will come to you and your house, your bloodline will be cut off.”
Lynn Cothren, Coretta Scott King’s openly gay special assistant for 23 years, recalls Alveda’s vocal opposition to a hospice for AIDS patients in her neighborhood. Once, says Cothren, Alveda brought religious tracts to the King Center and encouraged him to repent.
“Mrs. King dealt with it,” said Cothren, “and she didn’t pass out any more tracts.”
Alveda is dismissive of her aunt, who died in 2006, saying, “I’ve got his DNA. She doesn’t, she didn’t … Therefore I know something about him. I’m made out of the same stuff.”
Civil rights activists will protest this Saturday’s rally, and reject Alveda’s claim to her uncle’s legacy.
Loretta J. Ross, a black reproductive rights activist with the Atlanta organization SisterSong, says conservatives have recruited King “to be a front, to be a face … It’s a culture war wedge, to try to use gay rights and abortion as a way to build rifts in the black community.”
David Garrow, a civil rights movement historian at the University of Cambridge, said that Martin Luther King Jr. was unambiguously progressive.
“King was not only not a Republican, he was well to the left of the Democratic Party of the 1960s,” he said. “One could make a very strong case that King thought of himself as a democratic socialist. It’s also well-documented that Dr. King was a strong supporter of Planned Parenthood, and it’s well-documented that one of his five or six closest advisers, Bayard Rustin, was gay.”

Bingo. Not as bad this year as it was last year. Progress.

Yeah, right.

MLK would be in bed with social conservatives like Mitt, Newt, and Perry?

Dream on, Chucky.

His socially conservative niece would like to think he would have been socially conservative. His wife wasn't and didn't believe he would have been either.

First of all, it is not entirely clear what his position was while alive, and it is not possible to know what position he would take in the current political and social climate

But more importantly, you people stupidly case us progressive and social liberals as being pro abortion. The fact is that being pro choice is not the same thing as being pro abortion. I can actually respect someone who opposes abortion AND who is really pro life.

By "pro life" I don't mean just protecting the unborn. That is just being pro fetus, which is what most conservatives are. Regardless of what stance MLK would take on abortion, I seriously doubt that he would oppose universal health care, nutritional assistance programs, housing assistance and so many more things that support families that conservatives oppose. Did you ever stop to thing that the best deterrence to abortion is to create an environment where a young person or family can know that if they choose to bring a pregnancy to term, they will not be left on their own, but provided with critical social and financial supports. Supports that the fucking Republicans are almost universally opposed to. Consider also-affordable day care, and universal pre school . How about middle class tax breaks? We all know where the "pro life Republicans are at on those issues, don't we? It is massively hypocritical for them to call them selves pro life

People do not look for reasons to abort but rather, reasons not to. I've personally experienced abortion and it is not pleasant or desirable. However, when the future looks bleak and hopeless it may be necessary.

Regardless of what position MLK would take on abortion, I would much sooner support him for high office over just about anyone who has the temerity to call themselves a Republican
