Mitt Romney, On 60 Minutes, Cites Emergency Room As Health Care Option For Uninsured

"When they show up at the hospital, they get care. They get free care paid for by you and me. If that's not a form of socialism, I don't know what is," he said at the time. "So my plan did something quite different. It said, you know what? If people can afford to buy insurance ... or if they can pay their own way, then they either buy that insurance or pay their own way, but they no longer look to government to hand out free care. And that, in my opinion, is ultimate conservativism."

"Well, we do provide care for people who don't have insurance," he said in an interview with Scott Pelley of CBS's "60 Minutes" that aired Sunday night. "If someone has a heart attack, they don't sit in their apartment and die. We pick them up in an ambulance, and take them to the hospital, and give them care. And different states have different ways of providing for that care."

"Look, it doesn't make a lot of sense for us to have millions and millions of people who have no health insurance and yet who can go to the emergency room and get entirely free care for which they have no responsibility, particularly if they are people who have sufficient means to pay their own way," he said.

Dr. Somava Stout, who helps oversee primary care for the Cambridge Health Alliance, told CBS in June, "You have people who before would get their diabetic care in the emergency room who instead are coming into primary care, taking care of their diabetes, not ending up hospitalized every three or every four months. I mean it's a huge difference."

I wonder what Mittens' "position" will be tomorrow .................

Notice how rw's are scared to address the issue?

Any rw replies will be insults and/or deflections cuz that's all the rw's have.

i wished one of the candidates had a concept of reality

One does.

He saved the auto industry, killed Bin Laden, recapitalized the financial industry, got a comprehensive health care bill through congress and is trying like the dickens to get more infrastructure spending going..while getting rid of tax cuts on the wealthy. That would be Obama.

The other is talking about going to war with Iran, cutting taxes on the wealthy, striking down comprehensive health care and killing social programs that has kept seniors alive and well in their retirement. That would be Romney.

Tough choice..I know..but I am going with Obama.

Wow, bad flashback. For a minute there I thought you were talking about Bush.

Other than bin laden, your list of accomplishments aren't accomplishments....just more failed policies that are/will cost this country trillions more in debt. You'll vote for him anyway.

obama has artifically keps GM going at a daily loss to the taxpayers. Let Pakistan put the man who got Bin Laden in prison, made our dollar worthless, imposed a known failure of a health care plan on the nation and went to Las Vegas while Americans were being tortured and murdered.

He's done a superb job, to democrats.

GM had a record year last year and I'm sure the far right applauded Bush for finishing up with story time at an elementary school during the 911 bombings because he refused to show "panic" (I know I did)

Look, there are plenty of legitimate issues to question the Obama administration on. Stick to that. Making up crap and lying about crap just makes you look like a knee-jerk reactionary with no credibility. It hurts your position.

Real issues just get muddled in with your type of B.S. hyperbole and no one will take anything seriously. It's a disservice to all.

saved the auto industry-Lie GM is about to go under again and you can't force people to buy vehicles so there is no way of saving something like that unless you plan on forcing people to buy their vehicles..
Killed Bin Laden - Proof please...pictures? I know they got them...
Obamacare- forced health care ah yes another tax AWESOME!

You don't get free emergency treatment. You do get taken care of but you get billed and if you don't/can't pay, it eventually winds up on your credit report, ruining you credit. Romney is so out of touch it is pitiful!

Mitt doesn't care.

As long as he can lower taxes for the 1%, he is happy.
